1 Und Rehabeam zog gen Sichem; denn ganz Israel war gen Sichem gekommen, um ihn zum König zu machen.

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for al Israel were come to Sheche, to make him king

2 Als aber Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, solches hörte, da er noch in Ägypten war (denn dahin war er vor dem König Salomo geflohen), kehrte er aus Ägypten zurück.

And whe Ieroboam ye sonne of Nebat heard of it (who was yet in Egypt, whither Ieroboam had fled from king Salomon, and dwelt in Egypt)

3 Und man sandte hin und ließ ihn rufen. Da kamen Jerobeam und die ganze Gemeinde Israel und redeten mit Rehabeam und sprachen:

Then they sent and called him: and Ieroboam and all the Congregation of Israel came, and spake vnto Rehoboam, saying,

4 Dein Vater hat unser Joch zu hart gemacht; so mache du nun den harten Dienst deines Vaters und das schwere Joch, welches er uns aufgelegt hat, leichter, so wollen wir dir untertänig sein!

Thy father made our yoke grieuous: now therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke which he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.

5 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin für drei Tage, alsdann kommt wieder zu mir! Und das Volk ging hin.

And he said vnto them, Depart yet for three dayes, then come againe to me. And the people departed.

6 Da hielt der König Rehabeam einen Rat mit den Ältesten, die vor seinem Vater Salomo gestanden, als er noch lebte, und sprach: Wie ratet ihr, daß wir diesem Volk antworten sollen?

And King Rehoboam tooke counsell with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while he yet liued, and sayde, What counsell giue ye, that I may make an answere to this people?

7 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Wirst du heute diesem Volk einen Gefallen tun und ihm zu Willen sein und sie erhören und ihm gute Worte geben, so werden sie dir dienen dein Leben lang!

And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be a seruant vnto this people this day, and serue them, and answere them, and speake kinde wordes to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

8 Aber er verließ den Rat der Ältesten, den sie ihm gegeben hatten, und hielt Rat mit den Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, die vor ihm standen.

But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him.

9 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was ratet ihr, daß wir diesem Volk antworten, welches zu mir gesagt und gesprochen hat: Mache das Joch leichter, welches dein Vater auf uns gelegt hat?

And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?

10 Da sprachen zu ihm die Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren: Du sollst dem Volk, das zu dir gesagt hat: Dein Vater hat unser Joch zu schwer gemacht, du aber mache es uns leichter, dem sollst du so antworten: «Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als meines Vaters Lenden!

Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes.

11 Und nun, hat mein Vater ein schweres Joch auf euch geladen, so will ich euch noch mehr aufladen! Hat mein Vater euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!»

Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

12 Als nun Jerobeam samt dem ganzen Volk am dritten Tage zu Rehabeam kam, wie der König gesagt hatte: «Kommt am dritten Tag zu mir!»

Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me againe ye thirde day.

13 da gab der König dem Volk eine harte Antwort und verließ den Rat, welchen ihm die Ältesten gegeben hatten,

And the king answered the people sharpely, and left the old mens counsell that they gaue him,

14 und redete mit ihnen nach dem Rat der Jungen und sprach: Mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!

And spake to them after the counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, and I will make your yoke more grieuous: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

15 Also willfahrte der König dem Volke nicht; denn es ward so vom HERRN gefügt, auf daß er sein Wort erfülle, welches der HERR durch Achija von Silo zu Jerobeam, dem Sohne Nebats, geredet hatte.

And the King hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of the Lord, that he might perfourme his saying, which the Lord had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

16 Als nun ganz Israel sah, daß der König ihnen kein Gehör schenkte, antwortete das Volk dem König und sprach: Was haben wir für Anteil an David? Wir haben nichts zu erben von dem Sohne Isais! Israel, [auf] zu deinen Hütten! Und du, David, sieh zu deinem Haus!

So when all Israel sawe that the King regarded them not, the people answered the King thus, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? we haue none inheritance in the sonne of Ishai. To your tents, O Israel: nowe see to thine owne house, Dauid. So Israel departed vnto their tents.

17 Also ging Israel in seine Hütten, und Rehabeam regierte nur über die Kinder Israel, die in den Städten Judas wohnten.

Howbeit ouer the children of Israel, which dwelt in the cities of Iudah, did Rehoboam reigne still.

18 Als aber der König Rehabeam den Fronmeister Adoram hinsandte, bewarf ihn ganz Israel mit Steinen; der König Rehabeam aber sputete sich und stieg auf seinen Wagen, um nach Jerusalem zu fliehen.

Nowe the King Rehoboam sent Adoram the receiuer of the tribute, and all Israel stoned him to death: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

19 Also fiel Israel ab vom Hause Davids bis auf diesen Tag.

And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.

20 Als nun ganz Israel hörte, daß Jerobeam wiedergekommen sei, sandten sie hin und beriefen ihn in die Volksversammlung und machten ihn zum König über ganz Israel, und niemand folgte dem Hause Davids als allein der Stamm Juda.

And when all Israel had heard that Ieroboam was come againe, they sent and called him vnto the assemblie, and made him King ouer all Israel: none followed the house of Dauid, but the tribe of Iudah onely.

21 Als aber Rehabeam nach Jerusalem kam, versammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, etwa 180000 junge Männer, um wider das Haus Israel zu streiten und das Königtum wieder an Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, zu bringen.

And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered all the house of Iudah with the tribe of Beniamin an hundreth and foure score thousand of chosen men (which were good warriours) to fight against the house of Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon.

22 Aber das Wort Gottes erging an Semaja, den Mann Gottes, also:

But the worde of God came vnto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23 Sage zu Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos, dem König Judas, und zum Hause Juda und zu Benjamin und dem übrigen Volk und sprich:

Speake vnto Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and vnto all the house of Iudah and Beniamin, and the remnant of the people, saying,

24 So spricht der HERR: Ihr sollt nicht hinaufziehen, um wider eure Brüder, die Kinder Israel, zu streiten! Jedermann gehe wieder heim; denn solches ist von mir geschehen! Und sie folgten dem Worte des HERRN und kehrten um, wie der HERR gesagt hatte.

Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go vp, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done by me. They obeyed therefore the worde of the Lord and returned, and departed, according to the worde of the Lord.

25 Jerobeam aber baute Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim und wohnte darin und zog aus von dort und baute Pnuel.

Then Ieroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went from thence, and built Penuel.

26 Jerobeam aber gedachte in seinem Herzen: Das Königreich wird nun wieder dem Hause Davids zufallen!

And Ieroboam thought in his heart, Nowe shall the kingdome returne to the house of Dauid.

27 Wenn dieses Volk hinaufgehen soll, um im Hause des HERRN zu Jerusalem zu opfern, so wird sich das Herz dieses Volkes zu ihrem Herrn, zu Rehabeam, dem König von Juda, wenden, und sie werden mich töten und sich wieder Rehabeam, dem König von Juda, zuwenden!

If this people goe vp and doe sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Ierusalem, then shall the heart of this people turne againe vnto their lorde, euen to Rehoboam King of Iudah: so shall they kill me and goe againe to Rehoboam King of Iudah.

28 Darum hielt der König einen Rat und machte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zum Volk: Es ist zu viel für euch, nach Jerusalem hinaufzugehen! Siehe, das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägyptenland geführt haben!

Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

29 Und er stellte das eine zu Bethel auf und tat das andere nach Dan.

And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other set he in Dan.

30 Aber diese Tat ward [Israel] zur Sünde; und das Volk lief zu dem einen [Kalbe] bis gen Dan.

And this thing turned to sinne: for the people went (because of the one) euen to Dan.

31 Er machte auch ein Höhenheiligtum und bestellte aus dem ganzen Volk Leute zu Priestern, die nicht von den Kindern Levi waren.

Also he made an house of hie places, and made Priestes of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sonnes of Leui.

32 Ferner setzte Jerobeam ein Fest an, am fünfzehnten Tag des achten Monats, wie das Fest in Juda, und opferte auf dem Altar. Also tat er in Bethel, indem er den Kälbern opferte, die er gemacht hatte, und er bestellte zu Bethel die Priester der Höhen, die er gemacht hatte.

And Ieroboam made a feast the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, like vnto the feast that is in Iudah, and offred on the altar. So did he in Beth-el and offered vnto the calues that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the Priestes of the hie places, which he had made.

33 Und er opferte auf dem Altar, den er in Bethel gemacht hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, des Monats, welchen er aus eigenem Herzen erdacht hatte; und er veranstaltete den Kindern Israel ein Fest und opferte auf dem Altar und räucherte.

And he offered vpon the altar, which he had made in Beth-el, the fifteenth day of the eight moneth, (euen in the moneth which he had forged of his owne heart) and made a solemne feast vnto the children of Israel: and he went vp to the altar, to burne incense.
