Psalm 91

1 Wer da wohnt im Schirm des Höchsten und im Schatten des Allmächtigen weilt,

Who so dwelleth in the secrete of the most High, shall abide in the shadowe of the Almightie.

2 der spricht zum HERRN: »Meine Zuflucht und meine Burg, mein Gott, auf den ich vertraue!«

I will say vnto the Lord, O mine hope, and my fortresse: he is my God, in him will I trust.

3 Denn er ist’s, der dich rettet aus den Voglers Schlinge, von der unheilvollen Pest.

Surely he will deliuer thee from the snare of the hunter, and from the noysome pestilence.

4 Mit seinen Fittichen deckt er dich, und unter seinen Flügeln bist du geborgen, Schild und Panzer ist seine Treue.

Hee will couer thee vnder his winges, and thou shalt be sure vnder his feathers: his trueth shall be thy shielde and buckler.

5 Du brauchst dich nicht zu fürchten vor nächtlichem Schrecken, vor dem Pfeil, der bei Tage daherfliegt,

Thou shalt not be afraide of the feare of the night, nor of the arrowe that flyeth by day:

6 nicht vor der Pest, die im Finstern schleicht, vor der Seuche, die mittags wütet.

Nor of the pestilence that walketh in the darkenesse: nor of the plague that destroyeth at noone day.

7 Ob tausend dir zur Seite fallen, zehntausend zu deiner Rechten: an dich kommt’s nicht heran;

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and tenne thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come neere thee.

8 nein, lediglich mit eignen Augen wirst du’s schauen und zusehn, wie den Frevlern vergolten wird.

Doubtlesse with thine eyes shalt thou beholde and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Ja, du, o HERR, bist meine Zuflucht: den Höchsten hast du zum Schutz dir erwählt.

For thou hast said, The Lord is mine hope: thou hast set the most High for thy refuge.

10 Kein Übel wird dir begegnen, kein Unheilsschlag deinem Zelte nahn;

There shall none euill come vnto thee, neither shall any plague come neere thy tabernacle.

11 denn seine Engel wird er für dich entbieten, daß sie dich behüten auf all deinen Wegen;

For hee shall giue his Angels charge ouer thee to keepe thee in all thy wayes.

12 auf den Armen werden sie dich tragen, damit dein Fuß nicht stoße an einen Stein;

They shall beare thee in their handes, that thou hurt not thy foote against a stone.

13 über Löwen und Ottern wirst du schreiten, wirst junge Löwen und Schlangen zertreten.

Thou shalt walke vpon the lyon and aspe: the yong lyon and the dragon shalt thou treade vnder feete.

14 »Weil er fest an mir hängt, so will ich ihn retten, will ihn schützen, denn er kennt meinen Namen.

Because he hath loued me, therefore will I deliuer him: I will exalt him because hee hath knowen my Name.

15 Ruft er mich an, so will ich ihn erhören; ich steh’ ihm bei in der Not, will frei ihn machen und geehrt.

He shall call vpon me, and I wil heare him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliuer him, and glorifie him.

16 Mit langem Leben will ich ihn sättigen und lasse ihn schauen mein Heil.«

With long life wil I satisfie him, and shew him my saluation.
