Psalm 9
1 Dem Musikmeister, nach (der Singweise = Melodie) »stirb für den Sohn!«; ein Psalm von David. Preisen will ich den HERRN von ganzem Herzen,
Yahweh, I will praise you with all of my inner being. I will tell [others] about all the wonderful things that you have done.
2 ich will deiner mich freun und frohlocken, will lobsingen deinem Namen, du Höchster,
I will sing to celebrate what you [MTY], who are much greater than all other gods, [have done].
3 weil meine Feinde haben rückwärts weichen müssen: sie sind gestrauchelt und umgekommen vor dir.
When my enemies realize [that you are very powerful], they stumble, and then they are killed.
4 Denn du hast mein Recht und meine Sache geführt, hast auf dem Throne gesessen als gerechter Richter;
You sat on your throne to judge people, and you have judged fairly/justly concerning me.
5 du hast die Heiden bedroht, die Frevler vernichtet, ihren Namen ausgelöscht für immer und ewig:
You rebuked the [people of other] nations and you have gotten rid of the wicked people; you have erased their names forever.
6 Der Feind ist dahin, zertrümmert für immer; auch Städte hast du zerstört, ihr Gedächtnis ist untergegangen.
Our enemies have disappeared; you destroyed their cities, and people do not even remember them any more.
7 Der HERR aber thront in Ewigkeit; zum Gericht hat er aufgestellt seinen Stuhl;
But Yahweh rules forever. He judges [people while he sits] on his throne to judge people,
8 und er, er richtet den Erdkreis mit Gerechtigkeit, spricht das Urteil den Völkern nach Gebühr.
and he will judge [all the people in] [SYN] the world justly; he will judge the people [of all nations] fairly [DOU].
9 So ist denn der HERR eine Burg den Bedrückten, eine Burg für die Zeiten der Drangsal.
Yahweh will be a refuge for those who are oppressed; [yes, he will be like] a shelter for them when they have trouble.
10 Drum vertrauen auf dich, die deinen Namen kennen; denn du läßt nicht von denen, die dich, HERR, suchen.
Those who know Yahweh [MTY] trust in him; he never abandons those who come to him ([for help/to worship him]).
11 Lobsinget dem HERRN, der auf Zion thront, verkündet unter den Völkern seine Taten!
Yahweh rules from Zion [Hill]; praise him while you sing to him. Tell [the people of all] the nations the [marvelous] things that he has done.
12 Denn als Rächer der Blutschuld hat er ihrer gedacht, hat das Schreien der Elenden nicht vergessen.
He does not forget [to punish] those who have murdered others; and he will not ignore people who are crying because they are suffering.
13 Sei mir gnädig, o HERR, sieh an, was ich leide durch meine Feinde! Du bist’s, der den Pforten des Todes mich entreißt,
Yahweh, be merciful to me! Look at the ways that my enemies have injured me. Do not allow me to die [because of these injuries].
14 auf daß ich verkünde alle deine Ruhmestaten, in den Toren der Tochter Zion ob deiner Hilfe juble!
I want to live in order that I can praise you at the gates of Jerusalem [MTY] and to rejoice because you rescued me.
15 Versunken sind die Heiden in die Grube, die sie gegraben, im Netz, das sie heimlich gestellt, hat ihr eigner Fuß sich verstrickt.
[It is as though] the [wicked people of many] nations have dug a pit for me to fall into [MET], but they have fallen into that same pit. [It is as if] they spread out a net to catch me [MET], but their feet have been caught in that same net.
16 Kundgetan hat sich der HERR, hat Gericht gehalten: durch das Eingreifen seiner Hände ist der Frevler gefangen. SAITENSPIEL. (SELA)
Because of what you have done, people know that you decide matters [fairly/justly], but [you allow] wicked people to be trapped by the same evil things that they themselves do.
Wicked people will all [die and] be buried in their graves, and [their spirits] will go to be with all those who have (forgotten about/rejected) you. (Sheol h7585)
18 denn nicht auf ewig bleibt der Arme vergessen, und der Elenden Hoffnung geht nicht für immer verloren.
But you will not forget those who are needy/poor; what they confidently expect will certainly happen.
19 Steh auf, o HERR! Laß Menschen nicht trotzig schalten, laß die Heiden gerichtet werden vor dir!
Yahweh, arise and judge the [wicked] people of the nations; do not allow them to think that [because they are strong] they will never be punished.
20 Lege doch, HERR, einen Schrecken auf sie! Laß die Heiden erkennen, daß Menschen sie sind! (SELA)
Yahweh, teach them to be terrified about you. Cause them to know that they are merely human beings.
