Psalm 75

1 Dem Musikmeister, nach (der Singweise = Melodie) »Vertilge nicht«; ein Psalm von Asaph, ein Lied. Wir preisen dich, Gott, wir preisen!

We give thanks to thee, O God. We give thanks, for thy name is near. Men tell of thy wondrous works.

2 »Wenn ich die Zeit gekommen erachte, dann halte ich gerechtes Gericht.

When I shall find the set time, I will judge uprightly;

3 Mag wanken die Erde mit allen ihren Bewohnern: ich bin’s, der ihre Säulen festgestellt. (SELA)

when the earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved. I have set up the pillars of it. (Selah)

4 Ich rufe den Stolzen zu: ›Seid nicht stolz!‹ und den Frevlern: ›Hebt den Kopf nicht hoch!

I said to the arrogant, Deal not arrogantly, and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn.

5 Hebt euren Kopf nicht gar so hoch, redet nicht vermessen mit gerecktem Hals!‹« –

Lift not up your horn on high. Speak not with a stiff neck.

6 Denn nicht vom Aufgang (der Sonne) noch vom Niedergang und nicht von der Wüste her kommt die Erhöhung;

For neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes lifting up.

7 nein, Gott ist’s, der da richtet: diesen erniedrigt und jenen erhöht er.

But God is the judge. He put one down, and lifts another up.

8 Denn ein Becher ist in der Hand des HERRN mit schäumendem Wein, voll von berauschender Mischung; und er schenkt daraus ein: sogar die Hefen davon müssen schlürfen und trinken alle Frevler der Erde.

For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and the wine foams. It is full of mixture, and he pours out of the same, surely to the dregs of it. All the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.

9 Ich aber will das ewig verkünden, will lobsingen dem Gotte Jakobs;

But I will declare forever. I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10 und alle Hörner der Frevler will ich abhaun, doch die Hörner der Gerechten sollen erhöht sein.

All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, but the horns of a righteous man shall be lifted up.
