Psalm 74
1 Ein Lehrgedicht von Asaph. Warum hast du uns, o Gott, für immer verworfen,
O God, why have you cast us off for ever? why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Gedenke deiner Gemeinde, die vor alters du erworben, die zum Eigentumsvolk du dir erlöst hast! (Gedenke) des Berges Zion, auf dem du Wohnung genommen!
Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old; the rod of your inheritance, which you have redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein you have dwelled.
3 Lenk deine Schritte hinauf zu den ewigen Trümmern: ach, alles hat der Feind im Heiligtum zerstört!
Lift up your feet to the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy has done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Wild brüllen deine Feinde im Innern deiner Versammlungsstätte; haben dort ihre Fahnen als Siegeszeichen aufgestellt.
Your enemies roar in the middle of your congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
5 Es sieht sich an, als ob man die Äxte hoch geschwungen hätte im Dickicht des Waldes.
A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes on the thick trees.
6 Und jetzt zerschlagen sie auch sein Schnitzwerk allzumal mit Beilen und Hämmern.
But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
7 Sie haben dein Heiligtum in Brand gesteckt, bis zum Boden entweiht die Wohnung deines Namens.
They have cast fire into your sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground.
8 Sie haben sich vorgenommen: »Wir rotten sie allesamt aus!« und haben alle Gottesstätten im Lande verbrannt.
They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
9 Unsre (heiligen) Zeichen sehn wir nicht mehr, kein Prophet ist mehr da, und niemand weiß bei uns, wie lange das dauern soll.
We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knows how long.
10 Wie lange, o Gott, soll der Widersacher noch schmähen, der Feind deinen Namen immerfort lästern?
O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme your name for ever?
11 Warum doch ziehst du deine Hand zurück? O zieh deine Rechte hervor aus dem Busen, mach ein Ende!
Why withdraw you your hand, even your right hand? pluck it out of your bosom.
12 Gott ist ja doch mein König von alters her, Rettungstaten vollführt er inmitten des Landes.
For God is my King of old, working salvation in the middle of the earth.
13 Du hast das Meer durch deine Kraft gespalten, die Häupter der Drachen auf den Fluten zerschellt.
You did divide the sea by your strength: you brake the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 Du hast Leviathans Köpfe zermalmt, zum Fraß ihn hingegeben dem Volke der Wüstentiere.
You brake the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Du hast Quellen und Bäche hervorbrechen lassen, du hast nieversiegende Ströme trocken gelegt.
You did split the fountain and the flood: you dried up mighty rivers.
16 Dein ist der Tag, dein auch die Nacht, du hast den Mond und die Sonne hingestellt.
The day is yours, the night also is yours: you have prepared the light and the sun.
17 Du hast der Erde rings die Grenzen festgesetzt, Sommer und Winter, du hast sie gebildet.
You have set all the borders of the earth: you have made summer and winter.
18 Denke daran: der Feind hat dich, o HERR, gehöhnt, und ein gottloses Volk deinen Namen gelästert!
Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed your name.
19 Gib nicht den Raubtieren preis die Seele deiner Taube, vergiß nicht für immer das Leben deiner Dulder!
O deliver not the soul of your turtledove to the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of your poor for ever.
20 Blick hin auf den Bund! Denn angefüllt sind die Verstecke des Landes mit Stätten der Gewalttat.
Have respect to the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
21 Laß den Bedrängten nicht enttäuscht davongehn, der Arme und Bedrückte müsse deinen Namen rühmen!
O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise your name.
22 Steh auf, Gott, verficht deine Sache! Gedenke der Schmach, die dich trifft von den Ruchlosen Tag für Tag!
Arise, O God, plead your own cause: remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily.
23 Vergiß nicht das Geschrei deiner Feinde, das Toben deiner Gegner, das allzeit aufsteigt!
Forget not the voice of your enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against you increases continually.
