Psalm 60

1 Dem Musikmeister, nach (der Singweise = Melodie) »Lilie des Zeugnisses«; ein Lied Davids zum Lehren, als er mit den Syrern von Mesopotamien und mit den Syrern von Zoba Krieg führte und Joab zurückkehrte und die Edomiter im Salztal schlug, zwölftausend Mann. Gott, du hast uns verworfen, uns zersprengt,

To him that excelleth upon Shushan Eduth, or Michtam. A Psalme of David to teach. When he fought against Aram Naharaim, and against Aram Zobah, when Joab returned and slew twelve thousand Edomites in the salt valley. O God, thou hast cast vs out, thou hast scattered vs, thou hast bene angry, turne againe vnto vs.

2 Du hast das Land erschüttert, hast es zerrissen: o heile seine Risse, denn es wankt!

Thou hast made the land to tremble, and hast made it to gape: heale the breaches thereof, for it is shaken.

3 Dein Volk hast du Hartes erleben lassen, hast Taumelwein uns zu trinken gegeben;

Thou hast shewed thy people heauy things: thou hast made vs to drinke the wine of giddines.

4 doch deinen Getreuen hast eine Flagge du wehen lassen, damit sie sich flüchten konnten vor dem Bogen (des Feindes). (SELA)

But now thou hast giuen a banner to them that feare thee, that it may be displayed because of thy trueth. (Selah)

5 Daß deine Geliebten gerettet werden, hilf uns mit deiner Rechten, erhöre uns!

That thy beloued may be deliuered, helpe with thy right hand and heare me.

6 Gott hat in seiner Heiligkeit gesprochen: »(Als Sieger) will ich frohlocken, will Sichem verteilen und das Tal von Sukkoth (als Beutestück) vermessen.

God hath spoken in his holines: therefore I will reioyce: I shall deuide Shechem, and measure the valley of Succoth.

7 Mein ist Gilead, mein auch Manasse, und Ephraim ist meines Hauptes Schutzwehr, Juda mein Herrscherstab.

Gilead shalbe mine, and Manasseh shalbe mine: Ephraim also shalbe the strength of mine head: Iudah is my lawgiuer.

8 Moab (dagegen) ist mein Waschbecken, auf Edom werfe ich meinen Schuh; jauchze mir zu, Philisterland!«

Moab shalbe my wash pot: ouer Edom will I cast out my shoe: Palestina shew thy selfe ioyfull for me.

9 Wer führt mich hin zur festen Stadt, wer geleitet mich bis Edom?

Who will leade me into the strong citie? who will bring me vnto Edom?

10 Hast nicht du uns, o Gott, verworfen und ziehst nicht aus, o Gott, mit unsern Heeren?

Wilt not thou, O God, which hadest cast vs off, and didest not go forth, O God, with our armies?

11 O schaff uns Hilfe gegen den Feind! denn nichtig ist Menschenhilfe.

Giue vs helpe against trouble: for vaine is the helpe of man.

12 Mit Gott werden wir Taten vollführen, und er wird unsre Bedränger zertreten.

Through God we shall doe valiantly: for he shall tread downe our enemies.
