Psalm 54

1 Dem Musikmeister, mit Saitenspiel; ein Lehrgedicht Davids, als die Siphiter kamen und zu Saul sagten: »Weißt du nicht, daß David sich bei uns verborgen hält?«. Hilf mir, o Gott, durch deinen Namen

For the end, among Hymns of instruction by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hid with us? Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy might.

2 Höre, o Gott, mein Gebet, vernimm die Worte meines Mundes!

O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth.

3 Denn Freche haben sich gegen mich erhoben, und Gewalttätige trachten mir nach dem Leben: sie haben Gott sich nicht vor Augen gestellt. (SELA)

For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. (Pause)

4 Ich weiß: Gott ist mir ein Helfer, der Allherr ist meiner Seele Stütze.

For lo! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.

5 Das Böse wird auf meine Feinde zurückfallen: nach deiner Treue vernichte sie!

He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in thy truth.

6 Dann will ich mit Freuden dir Opfer bringen, will preisen deinen Namen, o HERR, daß er gütig ist;

I will willingly sacrifice to thee: I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord; for [it is] good.

7 denn er hat mich aus aller Bedrängnis errettet, und an meinen Feinden hat mein Auge sich geweidet.

For thou hast delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.
