Psalm 36

1 Dem Musikmeister; vom Knechte des Herrn, von David. Eingebung der Sünde beherrscht den Frevler,

“To the chief musician, by the servant of the Lord, by David.” Saith vice itself to the wicked—so I feel it within my heart— that he should have no dread of God before his eyes.

2 denn sie verblendet ihn mit Schmeichelreden, daß er in Verschuldung gerät, indem er Haß ausübt.

For he flattereth himself in his own eyes [too much] to find out his iniquity to hate it.

3 Was er ausspricht, ist Unheil und Trug; aufgehört hat er, verständig zu sein, um gut zu handeln.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, to do good.

4 Unheil sinnt er auf seinem Lager, tritt hin auf den Weg der Bosheit, das Schlechte verabscheut er nicht.

He deviseth wickedness upon his couch; he placeth himself on a way that is not good; evil he despiseth not.

5 O HERR, bis zum Himmel reicht deine Gnade, deine Treue bis hin an die Wolken;

O Lord, into the heavens reacheth thy kindness, thy faithfulness even into the skies.

6 deine Gerechtigkeit steht fest wie die Gottesberge, deine Gerichte gleichen dem weiten Weltmeer; Menschen und Tieren hilfst du, o HERR.

Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God; thy acts of justice like the great deep: man and beast dost thou ever help, O Lord.

7 Wie köstlich ist deine Gnade, o Gott, daß Menschenkinder sich bergen im Schatten deiner Flügel!

How precious is thy kindness, O God! And the children of men that seek shelter under the shadow of thy wings, —

8 Sie laben sich an den reichen Gütern deines Hauses, und du tränkst sie mit dem Strom deiner Wonnen;

These will be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and of the stream of thy delights wilt thou give them to drink.

9 denn bei dir ist der Brunnquell des Lebens, und in deinem Lichte schauen wir Licht.

For with thee is the source of life: in thy light shall we see light.

10 Erhalte deine Gnade denen, die dich kennen, und deine Gerechtigkeit den redlich Gesinnten!

Draw down continuously thy kindness unto those that acknowledge thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

11 Laß den Fuß des Hochmuts mich nicht treten und die Hand der Frevler mich nicht vertreiben!

Let not come against me the foot of pride, and let not the hand of the wicked chase me off.

12 Einst werden die Übeltäter gefallen sein, niedergestürzt und können nicht wieder aufstehn.

There are fallen the workers of wickedness: they are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise.
