Psalm 2

1 Was soll das Toben der Völker und das eitle Sinnen der Völkerschaften?

Why are the nations in turmoil, and why do the peoples make plots that will fail?

2 Die Könige der Erde rotten sich zusammen, und die Fürsten halten Rat miteinander gegen den HERRN und den von ihm Gesalbten:

The kings of the earth take their stand together and the rulers conspire together against Yahweh and against his Messiah, saying,

3 »Laßt uns zerreißen ihre Bande und von uns werfen ihre Fesseln!«

“Let us tear off the shackles they put on us and throw off their chains.”

4 Der im Himmel thront, der lacht, der Allherr spottet ihrer.

He who sits in the heavens will sneer at them; the Lord mocks them.

5 Dann aber wird er zu ihnen reden in seinem Zorn und sie schrecken in seinem Ingrimm:

Then he will speak to them in his anger and terrify them in his rage, saying,

6 »Habe ich doch meinen König eingesetzt auf dem Zion, meinem heiligen Berge!« –

“I myself have anointed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

7 Laßt mich kundtun den Ratschluß des HERRN! Er hat zu mir gesagt: »Mein Sohn bist du; ich selbst habe heute dich gezeugt.

I will announce a decree of Yahweh. He said to me, “You are my son! This day I have become your father.

8 Fordre von mir, so gebe ich dir die Völker zum Erbe und dir zum Besitz die Enden der Erde.

Ask me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance and the farthermost regions of the earth for your possession.

9 Du sollst sie mit eiserner Keule zerschmettern, wie Töpfergeschirr sie zerschlagen!« –

You will break them with an iron rod; like a jar of a potter, you will smash them to pieces.”

10 So nehmt denn Klugheit an, ihr Könige, laßt euch warnen, ihr Richter der Erde!

So now, you kings, be warned; be corrected, you rulers of the earth.

11 Dienet dem HERRN mit Furcht und jubelt ihm zu mit Zittern!

Worship Yahweh in fear and rejoice with trembling.

12 Küsset den Sohn, auf daß er nicht zürne und ihr zugrunde geht auf eurem Wege! denn leicht entbrennt sein Zorn. Wohl allen, die bei ihm sich bergen!

Kiss the son or he will be angry with you, and you will die in the way when his anger burns for just a moment. How blessed are all those who seek refuge in him.
