Psalm 123

1 Ein Wallfahrtslied. Zu dir erhebe ich meine Augen,

A song of ascents. To you I lift up my eyes, you who are enthroned in the heavens.

2 Siehe, wie die Augen der Knechte auf die Hand ihrer Herren, wie die Augen der Magd auf ihrer Gebieterin Hand: so blicken unsre Augen hin auf den HERRN, unsern Gott, bis er sich unser erbarmt.

See, as the eyes of servants look to their master's hand, as the eyes of a maid look to her mistress's hand, so our eyes look to Yahweh our God until he has mercy on us.

3 Erbarme dich, HERR, erbarme dich unser! Denn gründlich sind wir satt der Verachtung;

Have mercy on us, Yahweh, have mercy on us, for we are filled with humiliation.

4 satt, ja übersatt ist uns die Seele des Hohns der Leichtfertigen, der Verachtung der Stolzen.

We are more than full of the scoffing of the insolent and with the contempt of the proud.
