Psalm 116

1 Ich liebe den HERRN, denn er hat erhört mein flehentlich Rufen;

I have given my love to the Lord, because he has given ear to the voice of my cry and my prayer.

2 ja, er hat sein Ohr mir zugeneigt: ich will zu ihm rufen mein Leben lang!

He has let my request come before him, and I will make my prayer to him all my days.

3 Umschlungen hatten mich des Todes Netze und die Ängste der Unterwelt mich befallen, in Drangsal und Kummer war ich geraten. (Sheol h7585)

The nets of death were round me, and the pains of the underworld had me in their grip; I was full of trouble and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)

4 Da rief ich den Namen des HERRN an: »Ach, HERR, errette meine Seele!«

Then I made my prayer to the Lord, saying, O Lord, take my soul out of trouble.

5 Gnädig ist der HERR und gerecht, und unser Gott ist voll Erbarmens;

The Lord is full of grace and righteousness; truly, he is a God of mercy.

6 der HERR schützt den, der unbeirrt ihm traut: ich war schwach geworden, aber er half mir.

The Lord keeps the simple; I was made low, and he was my saviour.

7 Kehre zurück, meine Seele, zu deiner Ruhe, denn der HERR hat Gutes an dir getan!

Come back to your rest, O my soul; for the Lord has given you your reward.

8 Ja, du hast mein Leben vom Tode errettet, meine Augen vom Weinen, meinen Fuß vom Anstoß;

You have taken my soul from the power of death, keeping my eyes from weeping, and my feet from falling.

9 ich werde noch wandeln vor dem HERRN in den Landen des Lebens.

I will go before the Lord in the land of the living.

10 Ich habe Glauben gehalten, wenn ich auch sagte: »Ich bin gar tief gebeugt«;

I still had faith, though I said, I am in great trouble;

11 in meiner Verzagtheit hab’ ich gesagt: »Die Menschen sind Lügner allesamt.«

Though I said in my fear, All men are false.

12 Wie soll ich dem HERRN vergelten alles, was er mir Gutes getan?

What may I give to the Lord for all the good things which he has done for me?

13 Den Becher des Heils will ich erheben und den Namen des HERRN anrufen;

I will take the cup of salvation, and give praise to the name of the Lord.

14 meine Gelübde will ich bezahlen dem HERRN, ja angesichts seines ganzen Volkes.

I will make the offering of my oath to the Lord, even before all his people.

15 Kostbar ist in den Augen des HERRN der Tod seiner Frommen.

Dear in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his saints.

16 Ach, HERR, ich bin ja dein Knecht, ich bin dein Knecht, der Sohn deiner Magd; meine Bande hast du gelöst:

O Lord, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of her who is your servant; by you have my cords been broken.

17 dir will ich Dankopfer bringen und den Namen des HERRN anrufen;

I will give an offering of praise to you, and make my prayer in the name of the Lord.

18 meine Gelübde will ich bezahlen dem HERRN, ja angesichts seines ganzen Volkes,

I will make the offerings of my oath, even before all his people;

19 in den Vorhöfen am Hause des HERRN, in deiner Mitte, Jerusalem! Halleluja!

In the Lord's house, even in Jerusalem. Praise be to the Lord.
