Psalm 104
1 Lobe den HERRN, meine Seele! O HERR, mein Gott, wie bist du so groß! In Erhabenheit und Pracht bist du gekleidet,
Let every part of me praise the Lord! Lord my God, you are so great, clothed with majesty and splendor!
2 du, der in Licht sich hüllt wie in ein Gewand, der den Himmel ausspannt wie ein Zeltdach,
You wear light as your clothing; you stretch out the fabric of the heavens.
3 der die Balken seines Palastes im Wasser festlegt, der Wolken macht zu seinem Wagen, einherfährt auf den Flügeln des Windes;
You place the roof-beams of your house in the rainclouds. You make the clouds your chariots. You ride on the wings of the wind.
4 der Winde zu seinen Boten bestellt, zu seinen Dienern lohendes Feuer.
You make your angels winds, and your servants flames of fire.
5 Er hat die Erde gegründet auf ihre Pfeiler, so daß sie in alle Ewigkeit nicht wankt.
You set the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken.
6 Mit der Urflut gleich einem Kleide bedecktest du sie: bis über die Berge standen die Wasser;
It was clothed with ocean depths—the waters even covered the mountains—
7 doch vor deinem Schelten flohen sie, vor der Stimme deines Donners wichen sie angstvoll zurück.
but at your command the waters fled; at the sound of your thunder they rushed away.
8 Da stiegen die Berge empor, und die Täler senkten sich an den Ort, den du ihnen verordnet.
The mountains rose up and the valleys sank down to where you had determined.
9 Eine Grenze hast du gesetzt, die sie nicht überschreiten: sie dürfen die Erde nicht nochmals bedecken.
You set a boundary for the oceans so they would not come back and cover the earth.
10 Quellen läßt er den Bächen zugehn: zwischen den Bergen rieseln sie dahin;
You make springs flow into the streams, running down between the hills.
11 sie tränken alles Getier des Feldes, die Wildesel löschen ihren Durst;
They provide water for all the wild animals, and wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 an ihnen wohnen die Vögel des Himmels, lassen ihr Lied aus den Zweigen erschallen.
Birds build their nests in trees along the streams, singing from among the leaves.
13 Er tränkt die Berge aus seinem Himmelspalast: vom Segen deines Schaffens wird die Erde satt.
You send down rain on the mountains from your home high above; you fill the earth with good things.
14 Gras läßt er sprossen für das Vieh und Pflanzen für den Bedarf der Menschen, um Brotkorn aus der Erde hervorgehn zu lassen und Wein, der des Menschen Herz erfreut;
You make the grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to eat—crops produced by the earth for food,
15 um jedes Antlitz erglänzen zu lassen vom Öl und durch Brot das Herz des Menschen zu stärken.
and wine to make them happy, olive oil to make their faces shine, and bread to make them strong.
16 Es trinken sich satt die Bäume des HERRN, die Zedern des Libanons, die er gepflanzt,
The Lord's trees are well-watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 woselbst die Vögel ihre Nester bauen, der Storch, der Zypressen zur Wohnung wählt.
Sparrows make their nests there; herons make their homes in the tall trees.
18 Die hohen Berge gehören den Gemsen, die Felsen sind der Klippdachse Zuflucht.
Wild goats live high in the mountains; hyraxes hide among the rocks.
19 Er hat den Mond gemacht zur Bestimmung der Zeiten, die Sonne, die ihren Niedergang kennt.
You made the moon to mark the months, and the sun knows when to set.
20 Läßt du Finsternis entstehn, so wird es Nacht, da regt sich alles Getier des Waldes:
You make darkness fall and the night comes, the time when the forest animals come out to hunt.
21 die jungen Löwen brüllen nach Raub, indem sie von Gott ihre Nahrung fordern.
The young lions roar as they seek their prey, looking for the food that God provides for them.
22 Geht die Sonne auf, so ziehn sie sich zurück und kauern in ihren Höhlen;
When the sun rises they return to their dens to rest.
23 dann geht der Mensch hinaus an seine Arbeit und an sein Tagwerk bis zum Abend.
Then people leave for work, working until the evening.
24 Wie sind deiner Werke so viele, o HERR! Du hast sie alle mit Weisheit geschaffen, voll ist die Erde von deinen Geschöpfen.
Lord, how many different things you have made—all of them wisely created! The earth is full of your creatures.
25 Da ist das Meer, so groß und weit nach allen Seiten: drin wimmelt es ohne Zahl von Tieren klein und groß.
Consider the sea, deep and wide, full of all kinds of living things, large and small.
26 Dort fahren die Schiffe einher; da ist der Walfisch, den du geschaffen, darin sich zu tummeln.
Ships sail there, and Leviathan, that you made to play in it.
27 Sie alle schauen aus zu dir hin, daß du Speise ihnen gebest zu seiner Zeit;
All creatures look to you to give them food at the right time.
28 gibst du sie ihnen, so lesen sie auf; tust deine Hand du auf, so werden sie satt des Guten;
When you provide it, they gather it up. You hand out food to them, and they are well-fed.
29 doch verbirgst du dein Angesicht, so befällt sie Schrecken; nimmst du weg ihren Odem, so sterben sie und kehren zurück zum Staub, woher sie gekommen.
When you turn away from them, they're terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to dust.
30 Läßt du ausgehn deinen Odem, so werden sie geschaffen, und so erneust du das Antlitz der Erde.
When you send your breath, they are created, and life covers the earth again.
31 Ewig bleibe die Ehre des HERRN bestehn, es freue der HERR sich seiner Werke!
May the Lord's glory last forever! The Lord is happy with all he has made.
32 Blickt er die Erde an, so erbebt sie; rührt er die Berge an, so stehn sie in Rauch.
He only has to look at the earth and it trembles; mountains pour out smoke at his touch.
33 Singen will ich dem HERRN mein Leben lang, will spielen meinem Gott, solange ich bin.
I will sing to the Lord for as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God my whole life.
34 Möge mein Sinnen ihm wohlgefällig sein: ich will meine Freude haben am HERRN!
May he be pleased with my thoughts because I am happy in the Lord.
35 Möchten die Sünder verschwinden vom Erdboden und die Gottlosen nicht mehr sein! – Lobe den HERRN, meine Seele! Halleluja!
Let sinners be destroyed from the earth; let the wicked cease to exist. Let every part of me praise the Lord!
