Sprueche 22
1 Ein guter Name ist wertvoller als großer Reichtum, Beliebtheit besser als Silber und Gold. –
A good name is preferable to abundant riches, and good grace, to silver and to gold.
2 Reiche und Arme sind aufeinander angewiesen: der HERR hat sie alle beide geschaffen. –
The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker them all.
3 Der Kluge sieht das Unglück voraus und verbirgt sich; die Einfältigen aber gehen weiter und erleiden Schaden. –
The prudent foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 Der Lohn der Demut (und) der Gottesfurcht ist Reichtum, Ehre und Leben. –
The reward of humility [and] the fear of the Lord are riches and honor, and life.
5 Fußangeln und Schlingen liegen auf dem Wege des Falschen; wer sein Leben bewahren will, hält sich fern von ihnen. –
Thorns and snares are on the way of a perverse man: he that doth guard his soul will keep far from them.
6 Erziehe dein Kind angemessen für seinen Lebensweg; dann wird es auch im Alter nicht davon abweichen. –
Train up the lad in accordance with his course: even when he groweth old, will he not depart from it.
7 Der Reiche ist ein Herr der Armen, und wer borgt, ist ein Knecht des Gläubigers. –
A rich man ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the man that lendeth.
8 Wer Unrecht sät, wird Unheil ernten, und die Zuchtrute seines Grimmes wird ihn selbst treffen. –
He that soweth injustice will reap wrong-doing; and the rod of God's wrath will not fail.
9 Der Mildherzige wird gesegnet; denn er gibt dem Armen von seinem Brot ab. –
A man of a benevolent eye will indeed be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Treibe den Spötter weg, so geht der Streit mit hinaus, und das Zanken und Schmähen hat ein Ende. –
Drive away the scorner, and strife will go off; and then will cease contention and dishonor.
11 Wer reines Herzens ist, den liebt der HERR, und wessen Lippen herzgewinnend reden, dessen Freund ist der König. –
He that loveth with a pure heart, and hath grace on his lips, will have the king as his friend.
12 Die Augen des HERRN bewahren, was sie wahrgenommen, und er bringt die Worte des Treulosen zu Fall. –
The eyes of the Lord guard knowledge, and he overturneth the words of the treacherous.
13 Der Faule sagt: »Ein Löwe ist draußen; ich könnte mitten auf der Straße ums Leben kommen!« –
The slothful saith, There is a lion without, in the midst of the streets shall I be murdered.
14 Eine tiefe Grube ist der Mund der fremden Weiber; wer dem HERRN verhaßt ist, fällt hinein. –
A deep pit is the mouth of adulterous women: he that hath obtained the indignation of the Lord will fall thereinto.
15 Steckt Torheit tief im Herzen eines Kindes, so wird die Zuchtrute sie ihm austreiben. –
When folly is bound fast to the heart of a lad, the rod of correction must remove it far from him.
16 Wer einen Armen bedrückt, verhilft ihm zur Bereicherung; wer einen Reichen beschenkt, tut’s nur zu dessen Verarmung.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, [must at length] give to the rich, and come only to want.
17 Leihe mir dein Ohr und vernimm die Worte von Weisen und richte deine Aufmerksamkeit auf mein Wissen!
Incline thy ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.
18 Denn schön ist’s, wenn du sie in deinem Inneren festhältst: möchten sie allesamt auf deinen Lippen verbleiben!
For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thy bosom, if they be altogether firmly seated upon thy lips.
19 Damit dein Vertrauen auf dem HERRN ruhe, habe ich dich heute unterwiesen, ja dich.
That thy trust may be in the Lord, have I made them known to thee this day, yea, even to thee.
20 Wahrlich ich habe dir Kernsprüche aufgeschrieben mit Ratschlägen und Lehren,
Have not I written for thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 um dir kundzutun die Richtschnur von Wahrheitsworten, damit du denen, die dich fragen, richtige Antworten geben kannst.
That I might make thee know rectitude, the sayings of truth; that thou mightest bring back answers of truth to those that send thee?
22 Bringe den Geringen nicht um das Seine, weil er gering ist, und zertritt den Armen nicht im Tor,
Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither crush the afflicted in the gate;
23 denn der HERR wird ihre Sache führen und denen, die sie berauben, das Leben rauben.
For the Lord will plead their cause, and despoil the life of those that despoil them.
24 Befreunde dich nicht mit einem Zornmütigen und habe keinen Umgang mit einem Hitzkopf,
Make no friendship with a man given to anger; and with a man of fury thou must have no intercourse:
25 damit du dich nicht an seine Pfade gewöhnst und dir einen Fallstrick für deine Seele zulegst.
Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare for thy own soul.
26 Gehöre nicht zu denen, die Handschlag geben, zu denen, die für (fremde) Schulden Bürgschaft leisten;
Be not one of those that pledge their hand, or of those that are sureties for debts.
27 denn wenn du nicht imstande bist zu zahlen: warum soll man dir das Bett unter dem Leibe wegnehmen?
If thou have nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Verrücke nicht die uralten Grenzsteine, die deine Väter gesetzt haben. –
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have established.
29 Siehst du einen Mann, der in seinem Geschäft tüchtig ist, so wisse: bei Königen kann er in Dienst treten; er braucht nicht niedrigen Leuten seine Dienste zu widmen.
Seest thou a man that is diligent in his work? before kings may he place himself: let him not place himself before obscure men.
