Sprueche 14
1 Frau Weisheit baut ihr Haus auf, aber Frau Torheit reißt es mit eigenen Händen nieder. –
Wisdom is building her house, but the foolish woman is pulling it down with her hands.
2 Wer in seiner Redlichkeit wandelt, fürchtet den HERRN; wer aber krumme Wege geht, verachtet ihn. –
He who goes on his way in righteousness has before him the fear of the Lord; but he whose ways are twisted gives him no honour.
3 Im Munde des Narren ist eine Rute für seinen Hochmut, aber dem Weisen dienen seine Lippen zum Schutz. –
In the mouth of the foolish man is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will keep them safe.
4 Wo keine Ochsen sind, bleibt die Krippe rein, aber reicher Ertrag kommt durch die Kraft von Pflugstieren. –
Where there are no oxen, their food-place is clean; but much increase comes through the strength of the ox.
5 Ein wahrhaftiger Zeuge lügt nicht, aber ein falscher Zeuge trägt Lügen vor. –
A true witness does not say what is false, but a false witness is breathing out deceit.
6 Der Spötter sucht Weisheit, ohne sie zu finden; aber für den Verständigen ist die Erkenntnis etwas Leichtes. –
The hater of authority, searching for wisdom, does not get it; but knowledge comes readily to the open-minded man.
7 Gehe von einem törichten Menschen weg, denn du lernst da nichts von einsichtsvollen Lippen kennen. –
Go away from the foolish man, for you will not see the lips of knowledge.
8 Die Weisheit des Klugen besteht darin, daß er auf seinen Weg acht gibt; aber die Narrheit der Toren ist Enttäuschung für sie selbst. –
The wisdom of the man of good sense makes his way clear; but the unwise behaviour of the foolish is deceit.
9 Der Toren spottet das Schuldopfer; aber unter Rechtschaffenen herrscht gutes Einvernehmen. –
In the tents of those hating authority there is error, but in the house of the upright man there is grace.
10 Das Herz allein kennt seinen Kummer, und auch in seine Freude kann sich kein Fremder mischen. –
No one has knowledge of a man's grief but himself; and a strange person has no part in his joy.
11 Das Haus der Gottlosen wird zerstört werden, das Zelt der Rechtschaffenen aber wird in Blüte stehen. –
The house of the sinner will be overturned, but the tent of the upright man will do well.
12 Mancher Weg erscheint einem Menschen gerade, aber das Ende davon sind Wege des Todes. –
There is a way which seems straight before a man, but its end is the ways of death.
13 Sogar beim Lachen kann das Herz Kummer empfinden, und das Ende der Freude ist (oft) Traurigkeit. –
Even while laughing the heart may be sad; and after joy comes sorrow.
14 Den Lohn für seine Wege bekommt der zu schmecken, dessen Herz abtrünnig ist, und ebenso ein guter Mensch für seine Handlungen. –
He whose heart is turned away will have the reward of his ways in full measure; but a good man will have the reward of his doings.
15 Der Einfältige glaubt jedem Wort, der Kluge aber gibt auf seine Schritte acht. –
The simple man has faith in every word, but the man of good sense gives thought to his footsteps.
16 Der Weise ist vorsichtig und meidet das Böse, der Tor aber ereifert sich und ist sorglos. –
The wise man, fearing, keeps himself from evil; but the foolish man goes on in his pride, with no thought of danger.
17 Der Jähzornige richtet Torheit an, ein besonnener Mensch aber bleibt ruhig. –
He who is quickly angry will do what is foolish, but the man of good sense will have quiet.
18 Die Einfältigen eignen sich Dummheit an, die Klugen aber werden mit Erfahrung gekrönt. –
Foolish behaviour is the heritage of the simple, but men of good sense are crowned with knowledge.
19 Die Bösen müssen sich vor den Guten verneigen und die Gottlosen an den Türen des Gerechten stehen. –
The knees of the evil are bent before the good; and sinners go down in the dust at the doors of the upright.
20 Sogar seinem Freunde ist der Arme widerwärtig; aber derer, die den Reichen lieben, sind viele. –
The poor man is hated even by his neighbour, but the man of wealth has numbers of friends.
21 Wer seinen Nächsten verächtlich behandelt, versündigt sich; wer sich aber der Unglücklichen erbarmt: Heil ihm! –
He who has no respect for his neighbour is a sinner, but he who has pity for the poor is happy.
22 Wahrlich, wer auf Böses sinnt, wird irre gehen; aber Liebe und Vertrauen erntet, wer gute Absichten hegt. –
Will not the designers of evil come into error? But mercy and good faith are for the designers of good.
23 Bei jeder sauren Arbeit kommt ein Gewinn heraus, aber leeres Geschwätz bringt nur Verlust. –
In all hard work there is profit, but talk only makes a man poor.
24 Für weise Menschen ist ihr Reichtum eine Krone, der Kranz der Toren aber ist die Torheit. –
Their wisdom is a crown to the wise, but their foolish behaviour is round the head of the unwise.
25 Ein wahrhaftiger Zeuge ist ein Lebensretter; wer aber Lügen ausspricht, ist ein falscher Zeuge. –
A true witness is the saviour of lives; but he who says false things is a cause of deceit.
26 In der Gottesfurcht liegt eine starke Sicherheit, und auch die Kinder eines solchen haben darin eine Zuflucht. –
For him in whose heart is the fear of the Lord there is strong hope: and his children will have a safe place.
27 Die Gottesfurcht ist ein Born des Lebens, um den Schlingen des Todes zu entgehen. –
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, by which one may be turned from the nets of death.
28 Auf der Menge des Kriegsvolks beruht das Ansehen eines Königs; aber der Mangel an Kriegsmannschaft führt den Sturz eines Fürsten herbei. –
A king's glory is in the number of his people: and for need of people a ruler may come to destruction.
29 Ein Geduldiger beweist viel Einsicht, aber ein Jähzorniger treibt die Torheit auf die Spitze. –
He who is slow to be angry has great good sense; but he whose spirit is over-quick gives support to what is foolish.
30 Ein gelassenes Herz ist des Leibes Leben, aber Leidenschaftlichkeit ist wie Wurmfraß in den Gebeinen. –
A quiet mind is the life of the body, but envy is a disease in the bones.
31 Wer den Geringen bedrückt, beschimpft den, der ihn geschaffen hat; wer sich aber des Armen erbarmt, erweist jenem Ehre. –
He who is hard on the poor puts shame on his Maker; but he who has mercy on those who are in need gives him honour.
32 Durch seine Bosheit wird der Gottlose gestürzt; aber der Gerechte bleibt auch im Tode noch getrost. –
The sinner is overturned in his evil-doing, but the upright man has hope in his righteousness.
33 Im Herzen des Verständigen ruht die Weisheit verschlossen; was aber im Inneren der Toren ist, gibt sich kund. –
Wisdom has her resting-place in the mind of the wise, but she is not seen among the foolish.
34 Gerechtigkeit erhöht ein Volk, aber die Sünde ist die Schmach der Völker. –
By righteousness a nation is lifted up, but sin is a cause of shame to the peoples.
35 Des Königs Gunst wird dem klugen Diener zuteil, aber einen unbrauchbaren wird sein Ingrimm treffen.
The king has pleasure in a servant who does wisely, but his wrath is against him who is a cause of shame.
