4 Mose 20

1 Hierauf gelangte die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten in die Wüste Zin im ersten Monat (des vierzigsten Jahres), und das Volk ließ sich in Kades nieder. Dort starb Mirjam und wurde dort begraben.

Then the children of Israel came with ye whole Congregation to the desert of Zin in the first moneth, and the people abode at Cadesh: where Miriam died, and was buried there.

2 Weil aber die Gemeinde kein Wasser hatte, rottete sie sich gegen Mose und Aaron zusammen;

But there was no water for the Congregation, and they assembled them selues against Moses and against Aaron.

3 und das Volk haderte mit Mose und rief laut aus: »Ach, wären wir doch auch umgekommen, als unsere Brüder vor dem HERRN umkamen!

And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God we had perished, when our brethren died before the Lord.

4 Warum habt ihr nur die Gemeinde des HERRN in diese Wüste geführt, daß wir hier mit unserem Vieh sterben müssen!

Why haue ye thus brought the Congregation of the Lord vnto his wildernesse, that both we, and our cattell should die there?

5 Und warum habt ihr uns aus Ägypten hierher gebracht und uns in diese traurige Gegend geführt, an einen Ort, wo man nicht säen kann und wo kein Feigenbaum, kein Weinstock und kein Granatbaum zu finden ist und wo es nicht einmal Trinkwasser gibt!«

Wherefore nowe haue yee made vs to come vp from Egypt, to bring vs into this miserable place, which is no place of seede, nor figges, nor vines, nor pomegranates? neither is there any water to drinke.

6 Da gingen Mose und Aaron aus der Versammlung weg an den Eingang des Offenbarungszeltes und warfen sich auf ihr Angesicht nieder; da erschien ihnen die Herrlichkeit des HERRN.

Then Moses and Aaron went from the assemblie vnto the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and fell vpon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared vnto them.

7 Und der HERR gebot dem Mose folgendes: »Nimm den Stab und versammle die Gemeinde, du und dein Bruder Aaron; redet dann den Felsen vor ihren Augen an, daß er sein Wasser hergeben solle,

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

8 so wirst du Wasser für sie aus dem Felsen hervorfließen lassen und so der Gemeinde und ihrem Vieh Trinkwasser verschaffen.«

Take the rod, and gather thou and thy brother Aaron the Congregation together, and speake yee vnto the rocke before their eyes, and it shall giue foorth his water, and thou shalt bring them water out of the rocke: so thou shalt giue the Congregation, and their beastes drinke.

9 Da holte Mose den Stab vor dem HERRN weg, wie der HERR ihm geboten hatte.

Then Moses tooke the rod from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.

10 Darauf ließen Mose und Aaron die Gemeinde vor dem Felsen zusammenkommen, und er sagte zu ihnen: »Hört doch, ihr Widerspenstigen! Können wir wohl Wasser für euch aus diesem Felsen hervorfließen lassen?«

And Moses and Aaron gathered the Congregation together before the rocke, and Moses sayd vnto them, Heare nowe, ye rebels: shall we bring you water out of this rocke?

11 Als Mose dann seine Hand erhoben und zweimal mit seinem Stabe an den Felsen geschlagen hatte, da strömte Wasser in Fülle heraus, so daß die Gemeinde und ihr Vieh zu trinken hatten.

Then Moses lift vp his hande, and with his rod he smote the rocke twise, and the water came out aboundantly: so the Congregation, and their beastes dranke.

12 Der HERR aber sagte zu Mose und Aaron: »Zur Strafe dafür, daß ihr mir kein Vertrauen geschenkt und mir nicht als dem Heiligen die Ehre vor den Augen der Israeliten gegeben habt, darum sollt ihr diese Gemeinde nicht in das Land bringen, das ich für sie bestimmt habe!«

Againe the Lord spake vnto Moses, and to Aaron, Because ye beleeued me not, to sanctifie mee in the presence of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this Congregation into the land which I haue giuen them.

13 Das ist das Haderwasser (von Kades), wo die Israeliten mit dem HERRN gehadert haben und er sich an ihnen als der Heilige erwies.

This is the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel stroue with the Lord, and hee was sanctified in them.

14 Von Kades aus sandte Mose dann Boten an den König der Edomiter: »So lassen dir deine Brüder, die Israeliten, sagen: Du kennst selbst alle Leiden, die uns betroffen haben,

Then Moses sent messengers from Kadesh vnto the king of Edom, saying, Thus sayth thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the trauaile that we haue had,

15 wie unsere Väter nach Ägypten hinabgezogen sind und wir lange Zeit in Ägypten gewohnt haben. Als dann die Ägypter uns und unsere Väter mißhandelten,

How our fathers went downe into Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, where the Egyptians handled vs euill and our fathers.

16 haben wir zum HERRN um Hilfe geschrien, und er hat unser Flehen gehört und einen Engel gesandt, der uns aus Ägypten hinausgeführt hat. Jetzt befinden wir uns nun in Kades, einer Stadt an der Grenze deines Gebietes.

But when we cried vnto the Lord, he heard our voyce, and sent an Angel, and hath brought vs out of Egypt, and beholde, wee are in the citie Kadesh, in thine vtmost border.

17 Gestatte uns doch den Durchzug durch dein Land! Wir wollen nicht durch die Äcker und durch die Weinberge ziehen, auch kein Wasser aus den Brunnen trinken; nein, auf der Königsstraße wollen wir ziehen, ohne nach rechts und nach links abzubiegen, bis wir dein Gebiet durchzogen haben.«

I pray thee that we may passe through thy countrey: we will not goe through the fieldes nor the vineyardes, neither will we drinke of the water of the welles: we will goe by the kings way, and neither turne vnto the right hand nor to the left, vntill we be past thy borders.

18 Aber der Edomiter antwortete ihm: »Du darfst nicht durch mein Land ziehen, sonst trete ich dir mit bewaffneter Hand entgegen.«

And Edom answered him, Thou shalt not passe by mee, least I come out against thee with the sword.

19 Darauf ließen ihm die Israeliten sagen: »Auf der Landstraße wollen wir ziehen, und wenn wir von deinem Wasser trinken, ich und meine Herden, so will ich den vollen Preis dafür bezahlen; ich will nur – das ist die ganze Sache – zu Fuß hindurchziehen.«

Then the children of Israel said vnto him, We will goe vp by the hie way: and if I and my cattell drinke of thy water, I will then pay for it: I will onely (without any harme) goe through on my feete.

20 Doch er antwortete: »Nein, du darfst nicht hindurchziehen!« Zugleich zogen die Edomiter ihm mit zahlreichem Kriegsvolk und mit bewaffneter Hand entgegen.

Hee answered againe, Thou shalt not goe through. The Edom came out against him with much people, and with a mightie power.

21 Da die Edomiter also den Israeliten den Durchzug durch ihr Gebiet nicht gestatten wollten, mußten die Israeliten seitwärts von ihnen abbiegen.

Thus Edom denyed to giue Israel passage through his countrey: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

22 So brachen sie denn von Kades auf, und die Israeliten, die ganze Gemeinde, kamen an den Berg Hor.

And when the children of Israel with al the Congregation departed from Kadesh, they came vnto the mount Hor.

23 Da sagte der HERR zu Mose und zu Aaron am Berge Hor, an der Grenze des Edomiterlandes:

And the Lord spake vnto Moses and to Aaron in the mount Hor neere the coast of the land of Edom, saying,

24 »Aaron soll jetzt zu seinen Volksgenossen versammelt werden; denn er soll nicht in das Land kommen, das ich für die Israeliten bestimmt habe, weil ihr beim Haderwasser meinem Gebot nicht nachgekommen seid.

Aaron shall be gathered vnto his people: for hee shall not enter into the lande, which I haue giuen vnto the children of Israel, because ye disobeyed my commandement at the water of Meribah.

25 Nimm Aaron und seinen Sohn Eleasar und laß sie auf den Berg Hor hinaufsteigen;

Take Aaron and Eleazar his sonne, and bring them vp into the mount Hor,

26 laß dort Aaron seine Gewänder ausziehen und lege sie seinem Sohne Eleasar an; denn Aaron soll (zu seinen Volksgenossen) versammelt werden und dort sterben.«

And cause Aaron to put off his garmentes and put them vpon Eleazar his sonne: for Aaron shall be gathered to his fathers, and shall die there.

27 Mose tat, wie der HERR ihm geboten hatte, und sie stiegen vor den Augen der ganzen Gemeinde auf den Berg Hor hinauf.

And Moses did as the Lord had commanded: and they went vp into the mount Hor, in the sight of all the Congregation.

28 Dort ließ Mose den Aaron seine Gewänder ausziehen und legte sie dessen Sohne Eleasar an; darauf starb Aaron dort auf dem Gipfel des Berges; Mose aber und Eleasar stiegen wieder vom Berge hinab.

And Moses put off Aarons clothes, and put them vpon Eleazar his sonne: so Aaron dyed there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came downe from off the mount.

29 Als nun die ganze Gemeinde erfuhr, daß Aaron gestorben sei, trauerte das ganze Haus Israel um Aaron dreißig Tage lang.

When al the Congregation sawe that Aaron was dead, al the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirtie dayes.
