Nehemia 7
1 Als nun die Mauer aufgebaut war und ich die Türflügel hatte einsetzen lassen, wurden die Torwächter angestellt.
When the wall was finished and I had set up the doors in place, and the gatekeepers and singers and Levites had been appointed,
2 Dann übertrug ich den Oberbefehl über Jerusalem meinem Bruder Hanani und dem Burghauptmann Hananja; denn dieser war ein zuverlässiger und gottesfürchtiger Mann wie wenige.
I gave my brother Hanani charge over Jerusalem, along with Hananiah who had oversight of the fortress, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.
3 Ich gab ihnen die Weisung: »Die Tore Jerusalems dürfen nicht eher geöffnet werden, als bis die Sonne heiß scheint; und während (die Torwächter) noch dastehen, soll man die Torflügel schließen und verriegeln. Auch sollt ihr Wachen aus den Bürgern Jerusalems aufstellen, einen jeden auf seinem Posten und jeden vor seinem Hause.«
I said to them, “Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are on guard, you may shut the doors and bar them. Appoint guards from those who live in Jerusalem, some at the place of their guard station, and some in front of their own homes.”
4 Die Stadt war nun zwar geräumig und groß, aber die Bevölkerung in ihr nur spärlich, und neugebaute Häuser waren nicht vorhanden.
Now the city was wide and large, but there were few people within it, and no houses had yet been rebuilt.
5 Da gab mein Gott mir den Gedanken ein, die Vornehmen und Vorsteher und das Volk zu versammeln, damit ein Geschlechtsverzeichnis von ihnen aufgenommen würde. Da fand ich das Geschlechtsverzeichnis derer, die zuerst (oder früher) aus der Gefangenschaft zurückgekehrt waren, und fand darin folgende Angaben:
My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, the officials, and the people to enroll them by their families. I found the book of the genealogy of those who returned at the first and found the following written in it.
6 Folgendes sind die Bewohner des Bezirks, die aus der Gefangenschaft der in der Verbannung Lebenden, die Nebukadnezar, der König von Babylon, einst (nach Babylon) weggeführt hatte, hinaufgezogen und nach Jerusalem und Juda zurückgekehrt sind, ein jeder in seine Ortschaft,
“These are the people of the province who went up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon took into exile. They returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city.
7 und zwar sind sie dorthin gekommen zusammen mit Serubbabel, Jesua, Nehemia, Asarja, Raamja, Nahamani, Mordechai, Bilsan, Mispereth, Bigwai, Nehum und Baana. Die Zahl der Männer des Volkes Israel betrug:
They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel included the following.

60 Die Gesamtzahl der Tempelhörigen und der Familien der Sklaven Salomos betrug 392.
All the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon's servants, were 392.
61 Und dies sind die, welche aus Thel-Melah, Thel-Harsa, Cherub-Addon und Immer mit hinaufgezogen sind, aber ihre Familie und ihre Abkunft nicht nachweisen konnten, ob sie nämlich aus Israel stammten:
These were the people who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon, and Immer. But they could not prove that they or their ancestors' families were descendants from Israel:
62 die Familie Delaja, die Familie Tobija und die Familie Nekoda: 642.
the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 642.
63 Sodann von den Priestern: die Familie Habaja, die Familie Hakkoz, die Familie jenes Barsillais, der eine Frau von den Töchtern des Gileaditen Barsillai geheiratet und deren Namen angenommen hatte.
Those who were from the priests: the descendants of Habaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai (who took his wife from the daughters of Barzillai of Gilead and was called by their name).
64 Diese hatten zwar nach einer Geschlechtsurkunde gesucht, aber eine solche hatte sich nicht finden lassen; infolgedessen wurden sie als unrein vom Priestertum ausgeschlossen;
These sought their records among those enrolled by their genealogy, but they could not be found, so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.
65 und der Statthalter hatte ihnen erklärt, daß sie von dem Hochheiligen nicht essen dürften, bis wieder ein Priester für die Befragung des Urim- und Thummim-Orakels da wäre.
Then the governor said to them that they should not be allowed to eat the priests' share of food from the sacrifices until there rose up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
66 Die ganze Gemeinde insgesamt belief sich auf 42360 Seelen,
The whole assembly together was 42,360,
67 ungerechnet ihre Sklaven und Sklavinnen, deren 7337 da waren; außerdem hatten sie noch 245 Sänger und Sängerinnen.
besides their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were 7,337. They had 245 singing men and women.
68 Die Zahl ihrer Pferde betrug 736, ihrer Maultiere 245,
Their horses were 736 in number, their mules, 245,
69 ihrer Kamele 435 und ihrer Esel 6720.

70 Manche von den Familienhäuptern spendeten Beiträge für den Gottesdienst. Der Statthalter schenkte für den Schatz: an Gold 1000 Dariken, 50 Sprengschalen, 30 Priestergewänder.
Some from among the heads of ancestors' families gave gifts for the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, 50 basins, and 530 priestly garments.
71 Von den Familienhäuptern gaben einige für den Gottesdienst: an Gold 20000 Dariken und an Silber 2200 Minen;
Some of the heads of ancestors' families gave into the treasury for the work twenty thousand darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver.
72 und was das übrige Volk gab, betrug an Gold 20000 Dariken und an Silber 2000 Minen und 67 Priestergewänder.
The rest of the people gave twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priestly garments.
73 So siedelten sich denn die Priester und die Leviten sowie die Torhüter, die Sänger und die Tempelhörigen in Jerusalem und dessen Gebiet an, alle übrigen Israeliten dagegen in ihren Ortschaften. Als nun der siebte Monat herankam, während die Israeliten sich in ihren Ortschaften befanden,
So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel lived in their cities. By the seventh month the people of Israel were settled in their cities.”
