Nahum 1
1 (Dies ist) der Gottesspruch über Ninive, das Buch des Gesichts Nahums, des Elkositers.
The burden of Ninive. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elcesite.
2 Ein eifernder und rächender Gott ist der HERR, ja ein Rächer ist der HERR und voller Zornesglut; Rache übt der HERR an seinen Widersachern und trägt seinen Feinden (ihre Verschuldungen) nach.
The Lord is a jealous God, and a revenger: the Lord is a revenger, and hath wrath: the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he is angry with his enemies.
3 Der HERR ist wohl langsam zum Zorn und groß an Gnade, läßt aber (den Schuldigen) keineswegs ungestraft. Durch Sturm und Ungewitter geht der Weg des HERRN, und Gewölk ist der Staub seiner Füße.
The Lord is patient, and great in power, and will not cleanse and acquit the guilty. The Lord’s ways are in a tempest, and a whirlwind, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 Er schilt das Meer und legt es trocken und läßt alle Ströme versiegen; Basan und der Karmel verdorren, und die Blüte des Libanons verwelkt.
He rebuketh the sea, and drieth it up: and bringeth all the rivers to be a desert. Basan languisheth and Carmel: and the dower of Libanus fadeth away.
5 Die Berge erbeben vor ihm, und die Hügel zerschmelzen; die Erde hebt sich bei seinem Anblick empor, der Erdkreis samt allen, die darauf wohnen.
The mountains tremble at him, and the hills are made desolate: and the earth hath quaked at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Wer kann vor seinem Groll bestehen und wer standhalten bei der Glut seines Zornes? Sein Grimm wirkt sich wie Feuer aus, und die Felsen zerspringen vor ihm.
Who can stand before the face of his indignation? and who shall resist in the fierceness of his anger? his indignation is poured out like fire: and the rocks are melted by him.
7 Doch gütig ist der HERR (gegen die auf ihn Hoffenden), eine feste Burg am Tage der Drangsal, und er kennt die, welche bei ihm Zuflucht suchen;
The Lord is good and giveth strength in the day of trouble: and knoweth them that hope in him.
8 aber mit überschwemmender Flut vernichtet er seine Widersacher, und Finsternis verfolgt seine Feinde.
But with a flood that passeth by, he will make an utter end of the place thereof: and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 Was ersinnt ihr Anschläge gegen den HERRN? Vernichtung wird er herbeiführen: nicht zum zweitenmal braucht die Drangsal sich zu erheben.
What do ye devise against the Lord? he will make an utter end: there shall not rise a double affliction.
10 Denn wären sie gar wie Dornen dicht verflochten und wie von ihrem Trank durchtränkt, sollen sie doch völlig verzehrt werden wie dürre Stoppeln! –
For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.
11 Von dir (Ninive) ist der ausgegangen, der Böses gegen den HERRN ersann, der nichtswürdige Ränkeschmied.
Out of thee shall come forth one that imagineth evil against the Lord, contriving treachery in his mind.
12 So hat der HERR gesprochen: »Wenn sie auch wohlgemut und noch so zahlreich sind, sollen sie doch abgemäht werden und dahinfahren! Und habe ich dich (Juda) auch gedemütigt, so will ich dich doch fortan nicht mehr demütigen,
Thus saith the Lord: Though they were perfect: and many of them so, yet thus shall they be cut off, and he shall pass: I have afflicted thee, and I will afflict thee no more.
13 sondern will nunmehr sein Joch, das auf dir lastet, zerbrechen und deine Stricke zerreißen.«
And now I will break in pieces his rod with which he struck thy back, and I will burst thy bonds asunder.
14 Über dich aber (Assyrien) hat der HERR bestimmt, daß von deinem Namen fernerhin kein Same kommen soll. »Aus dem Hause deines Gottes will ich Schnitzbild und Gußbild ausrotten, will dir dein Grab herrichten; denn zu leicht bist du erfunden worden.«
And the Lord will give a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name shall be sown: I will destroy the graven and molten thing out of the house of thy God, I will make it thy grave, for thou art disgraced.
15 Sehet da: auf den Bergen die Schritte eines Freudenboten, der Heil verkündigt! Feiere, Juda, deine Feste, erfülle deine Gelübde! Denn hinfort wird der Nichtswürdige dich nicht mehr durchziehen: er ist völlig vernichtet.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: O Juda, keep thy festivals, and pay thy vows: for Belial shall no more pass through thee again, he is utterly cut off.
