Richter 2
1 Da kam der Engel des HERRN von Gilgal hinauf nach Bochim und sprach: »Ich habe euch aus Ägypten hergeführt und euch in das Land gebracht, das ich euren Vätern zugeschworen hatte mit der Verheißung: ›Ich werde meinen Bund mit euch in Ewigkeit nicht brechen!
And an Angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to the Place of Weeping, and he said: “I led you away from Egypt, and I led you into the land, about which I swore to your fathers. And I promised that I would not nullify my covenant with you, even forever:
2 Ihr aber dürft mit den Bewohnern dieses Landes keinen Vertrag schließen, sondern müßt ihre Altäre niederreißen!‹ Doch ihr seid meinem Befehl nicht nachgekommen: was habt ihr da getan?
but only if you would not form a pact with the inhabitants of this land. Instead, you should overturn their altars. Yet you were not willing to listen to my voice. Why have you done this?
3 So sage auch ich euch nun: ›Ich werde sie nicht mehr vor euch vertreiben, damit sie euch zu Schlingen und ihre Götter euch zum Fallstrick werden!‹«
For this reason, I am not willing to destroy them before your face, so that you may have enemies, and so that their gods may be your ruin.”
4 Als nun der Engel des HERRN diese Drohung gegen alle Israeliten ausgesprochen hatte, fing das Volk laut zu weinen an.
And when the Angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, they lifted up their voice, and they wept.
5 Daher nannte man jenen Ort Bochim; und sie brachten dort dem HERRN Schlachtopfer dar.
And the name of that place was called, the Place of Weeping, or the Place of Tears. And they immolated victims to the Lord in that place.
6 Als nun Josua das Volk entlassen hatte und die Israeliten weggegangen waren, ein jeder in sein Erbteil, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen,
Then Joshua dismissed the people, and the sons of Israel went away, each one to his own possession, so that they might obtain it.
7 da diente das Volk dem HERRN, solange Josua lebte und während der ganzen Lebenszeit der Ältesten, welche Josua überlebten und all die großen Taten gesehen hatten, die der HERR an Israel vollbracht hatte.
And they served the Lord, during all his days, and during all the days of the elders, who lived for a long time after him, and who knew all the works of the Lord, which he had done for Israel.
8 Dann starb aber Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Knecht des HERRN, im Alter von hundertundzehn Jahren,
Then Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
9 und man begrub ihn im Bereich seines Erbbesitzes zu Thimnath-Heres im Gebirge Ephraim, nördlich vom Berge Gaas.
And they buried him in the parts of his possession at Timnath-Serah, on Mount Ephraim, before the northern side of Mount Gaash.
10 Als dann auch jenes ganze Geschlecht zu seinen Vätern versammelt war und ein anderes Geschlecht nach ihnen erstand, das vom HERRN und von den Taten, die er an Israel vollbracht hatte, nichts wußte,
And that entire generation was gathered to their fathers. And there rose up others, who had not known the Lord and the works that he had done for Israel.
11 da taten die Israeliten, was dem HERRN mißfiel, indem sie den Baalen dienten
And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served the Baals.
12 und den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, verließen, der sie aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt hatte; sie gingen anderen Göttern nach, nämlich den Göttern der Nachbarvölker ringsumher; sie erwiesen ihnen Anbetung und reizten dadurch den HERRN zum Zorn.
And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had led them away from the land of Egypt. And they followed foreign gods and the gods of the peoples who were living around them, and they adored them. And they provoked the Lord to wrath,
13 Wenn sie nun so vom HERRN abfielen und dem Baal und den Astarten dienten,
forsaking him, and serving Baal and Ashtaroth.
14 dann entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen die Israeliten, und er gab sie der Gewalt von Räubern preis, die sie ausplünderten, und ließ sie in die Hand ihrer Feinde ringsum fallen, so daß sie vor ihren Feinden nicht mehr standzuhalten vermochten.
And the Lord, having become angry against Israel, delivered them into the hands of plunderers, who seized them and sold them to the enemies that were living on all sides. Neither were they able to withstand their adversaries.
15 Überall, wohin sie zogen, war die Hand des HERRN gegen sie zum Unheil, wie der HERR es angedroht und wie er ihnen zugeschworen hatte, so daß sie in sehr große Not gerieten.
Instead, wherever they wanted to go, the hand of the Lord was upon them, just as he said and just as he swore to them. And they were greatly afflicted.
16 Da ließ dann der HERR Richter (unter ihnen) erstehen, die sie aus der Gewalt ihrer Räuber befreiten.
And the Lord raised up judges, who would free them from the hands of their oppressors. But they were not willing to listen to them.
17 Aber auch ihren Richtern gehorchten sie nicht, sondern wandten sich treulos anderen Göttern zu, denen sie Anbetung erwiesen; sie hatten gar schnell den Weg verlassen, den ihre Väter im Gehorsam gegen die Gebote des HERRN gewandelt waren: sie handelten nicht wie jene.
Fornicating with foreign gods and adoring them, they quickly deserted the way along which their fathers had advanced. And having heard the commandments of the Lord, they did all things to the contrary.
18 Sooft nun der HERR Richter unter ihnen erstehen ließ, war der HERR mit dem betreffenden Richter und errettete sie aus der Gewalt ihrer Feinde, solange der Richter lebte; denn der HERR hatte Mitleid mit ihnen, wenn sie über ihre Bedränger und Bedrücker wehklagten.
And while the Lord was raising up the judges, in their days, he was moved to mercy, and he listened to the groaning of the afflicted, and he freed them from the slaughter of their oppressors.
19 Sobald aber der Richter gestorben war, trieben sie es aufs neue ärger als ihre Väter, indem sie anderen Göttern nachgingen, um ihnen zu dienen und sie anzubeten: sie ließen von ihrem bösen Tun und ihrem verstockten Wandel nicht ab.
But after a judge had died, they turned back, and they were doing much worse things than their fathers had done, following strange gods, serving them, and adoring them. They did not abandon their pursuits and their very stubborn way, by which they were accustomed to walk.
20 Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Israel, so daß er aussprach: »Zur Strafe dafür, daß dieses Volk die Verordnungen meines Bundes, den ich ihren Vätern zur Pflicht gemacht habe, übertreten und meine Weisungen nicht befolgt hat,
And the fury of the Lord was enraged against Israel, and he said: “For this people has made void my covenant, which I had formed with their fathers, and they have despised listening to my voice.
21 so will ich meinerseits hinfort keinen einzigen mehr aus den Völkern, die Josua bei seinem Tode übriggelassen hat, vor ihnen her vertreiben;
And so, I will not destroy the nations that Joshua left behind when he died,
22 nein, ich will Israel durch sie auf die Probe stellen, ob sie den Weg des HERRN innehalten werden, um nach dem Vorgang ihrer Väter darauf zu wandeln, oder nicht.«
so that, by them, I may test Israel, as to whether or not they will keep the way of the Lord, and walk in it, just as their fathers kept it.”
23 Darum hatte also der HERR diese Völkerschaften weiter bestehen lassen, statt sie sogleich zu vertreiben, und hatte sie nicht in Josuas Hand fallen lassen.
Therefore, the Lord left all these nations, and he was not willing to quickly overthrow them, nor did he deliver them into the hands of Joshua.
