Joel 2
1 Stoßt in die Posaune auf dem Zion und blast Lärm auf meinem heiligen Berge, daß alle Bewohner des Landes erzittern! Denn der Tag des HERRN kommt heran, ja, er steht nahe bevor,
Blow the trumpet in Zion, wail on my holy mountain, let all the inhabitants of the land be stirred up. For the day of the Lord is on its way; for it is near:
2 ein Tag der Finsternis und des Dunkels, ein Tag des Gewölks und der Wolkennacht! Wie Morgengrauen liegt über die Berge ausgebreitet ein großes, starkes Kriegsvolk, wie seinesgleichen von Ewigkeit her nicht gewesen ist und in Zukunft keines wieder sein wird bis in die Jahre der fernsten Geschlechter.
a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and whirlwinds. Like the morning reaching over the mountains, they are a numerous and strong people. Nothing like them has existed since the beginning, nor will exist after them, even in the years of generation upon generation.
3 Fressendes Feuer geht vor ihm her, und hinter ihm drein lodert Lohe; wie der Garten Eden liegt das Land vor ihm, und hinter ihm eine öde Wüste; und dabei ist ein Entrinnen vor ihm nicht möglich.
Before their face is a devouring fire, and behind them is a burning flame. The land before them is like a lush garden, and behind them is a desolate desert, and there is no one who can escape them.
4 Sie sehen ganz so aus wie Rosse, und wie Rennpferde, so stürmen sie vorwärts.
Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and they will rush forward like horsemen.
5 Rasselnd wie Kriegswagen hüpfen sie über die Höhen der Berge, knisternd wie die Feuerflamme, welche Stoppeln verzehrt, wie ein gewaltiges, kampfgerüstetes Heer.
Like the sound of a four-horse chariot, they will leap over the tops of the mountains. Like the sound of a burning flame devouring stubble, they are as a strong people prepared for battle.
6 Vor ihm erzittern die Völker, alle Gesichter entfärben sich.
Before their face, the people will be tortured; each one’s appearance will retreat, as if into a jar.
7 Wie Kriegshelden stürmen sie daher, wie geübte Streiter ersteigen sie Mauern; jeder zieht seines Weges geradeaus, ohne sich aus der Richtung bringen zu lassen;
They will rush forward, as if they were strong. Like valiant warriors, they will ascend the wall. The men will advance, each one on his own way, and they will not turn aside from their path.
8 keiner stößt den andern, ein jeder verfolgt seine Bahn für sich; auch durch Pfeilhagel hindurch dringen sie vor, ohne sich aufhalten zu lassen.
And each one will not hem in his brother; every one will walk in his own rough path. Moreover, they will drop through the breach and not be harmed.
9 Sie stürmen gegen die Stadt an, rennen auf die Mauer, klettern an den Häusern hinauf; durch die Fenster dringen sie ein wie der Dieb.
They will advance into the city; they will rush through the wall. They will scale the houses; they will go in through the windows, like a thief.
10 Vor ihnen her bebt die Erde, wankt der Himmel; Sonne und Mond verfinstern sich, und die Sterne verlieren ihren Glanz.
Before their face, the earth has trembled, the heavens have been moved. The sun and moon have been obscured, and the stars have retracted their splendor.
11 Und der HERR läßt vor seiner Kriegerschar her seine Stimme erschallen; denn gar gewaltig ist sein Kriegsvolk, zahlreich der Vollstrecker seines Befehls. Ja, groß ist der Tag des HERRN und gar furchtbar: wer mag ihn bestehen?
And the Lord has bestowed his voice before the face of his army. For its military camps are very numerous; for they are strong and they carry out his word. For the day of the Lord is great and so very terrible, and who can withstand it?
12 »Doch auch jetzt noch« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – »kehret um zu mir mit eurem ganzen Herzen, mit Fasten, Weinen und Klagen!«
Now, therefore, the Lord says: “Be converted to me with your whole heart, in fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 So zerreißt denn eure Herzen statt eurer Kleider und kehret zurück zum HERRN, eurem Gott! Denn er ist gnädig und barmherzig, langsam zum Zorn und reich an Güte, und er läßt sich das Unheil leid sein:
And rend your hearts, and not your garments, and convert to the Lord your God. For he is gracious and merciful, patient and full of compassion, and steadfast despite ill will.
14 vielleicht läßt er es sich auch jetzt leid sein und läßt hinter sich noch einen Segen zurück; nämlich Speisopfer und Trankspende für den HERRN, euren Gott.
Who knows if he might convert and forgive, and bequeath a blessing after him, a sacrifice and a libation to the Lord your God?
15 Stoßt in die Posaune auf dem Zion, ordnet ein heiliges Fasten an, ruft einen allgemeinen Bettag aus!
Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call an assembly.
16 Versammelt das Volk, heiligt die Gemeinde, ruft die Greise herbei, laßt die Kinder und die Säuglinge zusammenkommen! Der Neuvermählte trete aus seiner Kammer hervor und das junge Weib aus ihrem Gemach!
Gather the people, sanctify the church, unite the elders, gather together the little ones and infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom depart from his bed, and the bride from her bridal chamber.
17 Zwischen der Vorhalle und dem Altar sollen die Priester, die Diener des HERRN, weinen und so beten: »Verschone, HERR, dein Volk und gib dein Erbe nicht der Schande preis, daß sie den Heiden zum Spott dienen! Warum soll man unter den Heidenvölkern sagen: ›Wo ist nun ihr Gott?‹«
Between the vestibule and the altar, the priests, the ministers of the Lord, will weep, and they will say: “Spare, O Lord, spare your people. And do not bequeath your inheritance into disgrace, so that the nations would rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
18 Da geriet der HERR in Eifer für sein Land und hatte Erbarmen mit seinem Volk;
The Lord has been zealous for his land, and he has spared his people.
19 so antwortete denn der HERR und sprach zu seinem Volk: »Fürwahr, ich lasse euch das (erforderliche) Getreide, den Most und das Öl zukommen, daß ihr satt davon werden sollt; auch will ich euch fernerhin nicht dem Hohn unter den Heiden preisgeben.
And the Lord responded, and he said to his people: “Behold, I will send you grain and wine and oil, and you will again be filled with them. And I will no longer give you disgrace among the Gentiles.
20 Den nordischen Feind aber will ich weit von euch entfernen und ihn in ein dürres und wüstes Land vertreiben, nämlich seinen Vortrab in das Ostmeer und seine Nachhut in das Westmeer, so daß der Gestank von ihm aufsteigen, daß der Modergeruch von ihm sich erheben soll, weil er gewaltsam aufgetreten ist.
And he who is from the North, I will drive far from you. And I will expel him into an impassable land, and into the desert, with his face opposite the Eastern sea, and his furthest part towards the furthest sea. And his stench will ascend, and his rottenness will ascend, because he has acted arrogantly.
21 Fürchte dich nicht, Ackerland, nein, juble und freue dich! Denn der HERR vollbringt etwas Großes.
Earth, do not be afraid. Exult and rejoice. For the Lord has great esteem for what he has done.
22 Fürchtet euch nicht, ihr Tiere des Feldes! Denn die Auen der Steppe sollen aufs neue grünen, die Bäume wieder ihre Früchte tragen, der Feigenbaum und Weinstock den vollen Ertrag geben!
Animals of the countryside, do not be afraid. For the beauty of the wilderness has sprung forth. For the tree has borne its fruit. The fig tree and the vine have bestowed their virtue.
23 Auch ihr, Kinder Zions, jubelt und freut euch über den HERRN, euren Gott! Denn er gibt euch den Herbstregen nach rechtem Maß und läßt euch Regen niederströmen, Frühregen und Spätregen, wie ehemals.
And you, sons of Zion, exult and rejoice in the Lord your God. For he has given you a teacher of justice, and he will make the early and the late rains descend to you, just as it was in the beginning.
24 Da werden die Tennen sich mit Korn füllen und die Kelterkufen von Most und Öl überfließen;
And the threshing floors will be filled with grain, and the presses will overflow with wine and oil.
25 und ich will euch die Jahre ersetzen, deren Ertrag die Heuschrecken, der Nager, der Fresser und der Verwüster, verzehrt haben, mein großes Kriegsheer, das ich gegen euch gesandt hatte.
And I will repay you for the years which the locust, and the beetle, and the mildew, and the caterpillar consumed: my great strength which I sent upon you.
26 Da sollt ihr vollauf zu essen haben und satt werden und den Namen des HERRN, eures Gottes, preisen, der sich wunderbar an euch erwiesen hat; und mein Volk soll in Zukunft nimmermehr zuschanden werden;
And you will eat with enjoyment, and you will be satisfied, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked miracles with you, and my people will not be confounded forever.
27 und ihr sollt erkennen, daß ich in Israels Mitte bin und daß ich, der HERR, euer Gott bin und keiner sonst; und nimmer soll mein Volk in Zukunft zuschanden werden!«
And you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and I am the Lord your God, and there is no other, and my people will not be confounded forever.
28 »Und danach wird es geschehen, daß ich meinen Geist über alles Fleisch ausgieße, so daß eure Söhne und eure Töchter prophetisch reden, eure Greise Offenbarungen in Träumen empfangen, eure jungen Leute Gesichte schauen;
And after this, it will happen that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy; your elders will dream dreams, and your youths will see visions.
29 ja auch über die Knechte und Mägde will ich in jenen Tagen meinen Geist ausgießen;
Moreover, in those days I will pour out my spirit upon my servants and handmaids.
30 und ich will Wunderzeichen am Himmel und auf der Erde erscheinen lassen; nämlich Blut, Feuer und Rauchsäulen:
And I will grant wonders in the sky and on earth: blood and fire and the vapor of smoke.
31 die Sonne wird sich in Finsternis verwandeln und der Mond in Blut, ehe der Tag des HERRN kommt, der große und furchtbare.«
The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord shall arrive.
32 Ein jeder aber, der den Namen des HERRN anruft, wird gerettet; denn auf dem Berge Zion und in Jerusalem wird Rettung sein, wie der HERR es verheißen hat; und zu den Entronnenen wird jeder gehören, den der HERR beruft.
And it will happen that everyone who will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. For on Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and in the remnant whom the Lord will call, there will be salvation, just as the Lord has said.
