Job 37
1 Ja, darüber erzittert mein Herz und fährt stürmisch empor von seiner Stelle.
At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved upward out of its place.
2 Hört, o hört auf das Donnern seiner Stimme und auf das Tosen, das seinem Munde entfährt!
Hear, O hear, the rattling of his thunder, and the storm's roar that goeth out of his mouth.
3 Er entfesselt es unter dem ganzen Himmel hin und sein Blitzesleuchten bis an die Säume der Erde.
Under the whole heavens he letteth it loose, and his lightning over the ends of the earth.
4 Hinter (dem Blitz) her brüllt der Donner; er dröhnt mit seiner hehren Stimme und hält (die Blitze) nicht zurück, sobald sein Donner sich vernehmen läßt.
Behind it roareth the thunder; he thundereth with his majestic voice; and he holdeth them not back when his voice is heard.
5 Gott donnert mit seiner Stimme wunderbar, er, der große Dinge tut, die wir nicht begreifen.
God thundereth with his marvelous voice: he doth great things, which we cannot comprehend.
6 Denn dem Schnee gebietet er: ›Falle auf die Erde nieder!‹ und ebenso dem Regenguß: ›Falle als Dauerregen nieder!‹
For to the snow he saith, Be thou on the earth: likewise the pouring rain, and to the pouring rains of his strength.
7 Dann zwingt er die Hände aller Menschen zur Untätigkeit, damit alle Menschen zur Erkenntnis seines Wirkens kommen.
He sealeth it on the hand of every man, that all men whom he hath made may know it.
8 Da zieht sich das Wild in sein Versteck zurück und hält sich ruhig in seinen Schlupfwinkeln.
Then retire the beasts into [their] dens, and rest in their lairs.
9 Aus der Kammer bricht der Sturm hervor und von den Nordwinden die Kälte:
Out of [his] chamber cometh the whirlwind, and out of the north, the cold.
10 durch den Hauch Gottes entsteht das Eis, und die weite Wasserfläche liegt in enger Haft.
From the breathing of God ice is given, and the broad waters become solid.
11 Auch belastet er mit Wasserfülle das Gewölk, läßt seine Blitzwolken überströmen;
Also with moisture he loadeth the cloud; [and] he scattereth the cloud of his lightning;
12 die wenden sich dann unter seiner Leitung hierhin und dorthin, um alles, was er ihnen gebietet, auszurichten auf dem ganzen weiten Erdkreise:
And it is turned round about by his guidance, to execute what he commandeth it upon the face of the world, the earth.
13 bald als Rute, wenn sie seinem Lande not tut, bald als Huldbeweis läßt er sie sich entladen.«
Whether it be as a chastising rod—if this be destined for his earth—or for kindness, doth he cause it to come.
14 »Vernimm dies, Hiob! Stehe still und erwäge die Wunderwerke Gottes!
Give ear unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider well the wonders of God.
15 Begreifst du es, wie Gott ihnen Befehl erteilt und das Licht seines Gewölks aufleuchten läßt?
Dost thou know how God hath imposed [a law] on them, and [how] he hath caused the light of his cloud to shine?
16 Verstehst du dich auf das Schweben der Wolken, auf die Wundertaten des an Weisheit Vollkommenen,
Dost thou know aught about the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 du, dem die Kleider zu heiß werden, wenn das Land beim Südwind in schwüler Hitze daliegt?
[Thou] who clothest thyself with warm garments, when He giveth the earth rest from the south wind?
18 Kannst du gleich ihm das Himmelsgewölbe ausbreiten, das fest ist wie ein gegossener Spiegel?
Hast thou with him spread out the skies, which are strong even as a molten mirror?
19 Laß uns wissen, was wir ihm sagen sollen! Wir können vor Finsternis nichts vorbringen.
Let us know what we shall say unto him: we cannot set aught in order [before him] because of darkness.
20 Soll ihm gemeldet werden, daß ich reden wolle? Hat wohl je ein Mensch gefordert, er wolle vernichtet sein?
Can [all] be related of him, when I speak [ever so much]? or if a man talk [of him] even till he be swallowed up [in death]?
21 Und nun: in das Sonnenlicht kann man nicht blicken, wenn es am Himmelsgewölbe strahlt, nachdem der Wind darüber hingefahren ist und (den Himmel) geklärt hat.
Yet now men see not the light which is bright in the skies, when the wind hath passed along, and purified them.
22 Von Norden her kommt das Nordlicht: um Gott her liegt furchtbare Pracht.
The golden [light] that cometh out of the north: around God is terrible majesty.
23 Den Allmächtigen, wir erreichen ihn nicht, ihn, der an Kraft gewaltig ist; aber das Recht und die volle Gerechtigkeit beugt er nicht.
The Almighty, whom we cannot find out, excellent in power, and in justice, and abounding in righteousness, will not afflict:
24 Darum sollen die Menschen ihn fürchten: er sieht keinen an, der sich selbst weise dünkt!«
Therefore do men fear him; he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
