Job 34
1 Elihu hob dann wieder an und sagte:
After proclaiming these things, Eliu now had this to say:
2 »Vernehmt, ihr Weisen, meine Worte und, ihr Einsichtigen, schenkt mir Gehör!
May the wise hear my words, and may the educated listen to me.
3 denn das Ohr prüft die Worte, wie der Gaumen die Speisen kostet.
For the ear examines words, and the mouth discerns foods by the taste.
4 Wir wollen doch prüfend das Recht finden, wollen gemeinsam erforschen, was gut ist.
Let us choose judgment for ourselves, and let us consider among ourselves what is best.
5 Denn Hiob hat behauptet: ›Ich bin gerecht, aber Gott hat mir mein Recht vorenthalten;
For Job has said: “I am just, yet God has subverted my judgment.
6 trotz meines Rechtes soll ich ein Lügner sein! Tödlich steckt sein Pfeil in mir, ohne daß ich mich verschuldet habe!‹«
For, within my judgment, there is a lie: my vehement barbs are without any sin.”
7 »Wo ist ein Mann wie Hiob, der Lästerrede trinkt wie Wasser
What man is there that is like Job, who drinks up derision as if it were water,
8 und in Gemeinschaft mit Übeltätern getreten ist und mit Frevlern Umgang pflegt?
who accompanies those who work iniquity, and who walks with impious men?
9 Denn er hat behauptet: ›Der Mensch hat keinen Nutzen davon, daß er mit Gott die Freundschaft aufrecht hält.‹
For he has said, “Man will not please God, even if he should travel with him.”
10 Darum hört mich an, ihr einsichtsvollen Männer! Fern bleibe der Vorwurf von Gott, daß er Frevel verübe, und vom Allmächtigen, daß er Unrecht tue!
Therefore, prudent men, hear me: impiety is far from God, and iniquity is far from the Almighty.
11 Nein, was der Mensch tut, das vergilt er ihm und läßt es jedem nach seinem Lebenswandel ergehen.
For he will restore to man his works, and according to the ways of each, he will repay them.
12 Ja wahrlich, Gott handelt nicht frevelhaft, und der Allmächtige beugt das Recht nicht.
For truly, God will not condemn in vain, nor will the Almighty repudiate judgment.
13 Wer hat die Erde seiner Obhut anvertraut und wer den ganzen Erdkreis hergestellt?
What other is established over the earth? Or whom has he placed over the world, which he made?
14 Wenn er nur an sich selbst dächte, seinen Geist und seinen Odem in sich zurückzöge,
But, if he directs his heart towards him, he will draw his spirit and breath to himself.
15 so müßte alles Fleisch insgesamt verscheiden und der Mensch wieder zu Staub werden.
All flesh will fail together, and man will return to ashes.
16 Wenn du also verständig bist, so höre dies und gib wohl acht, wie meine Worte lauten!
Therefore, if you have understanding, hear what is said, and heed the sound of my eloquence.
17 Kann auch, wer das Recht haßt, ein Gemeinwesen leiten? Oder willst du den Allgerechten verdammen,
Is he that does not love judgment able to be corrected? And how can you so greatly condemn him who is just?
18 ihn, der zum Könige sagt: ›Du Nichtswürdiger!‹ und zu den Hochgestellten: ›Du Bösewicht!‹,
He says to the king, “You are an apostate.” He calls commanders impious.
19 ihn, der die Person der Fürsten nicht ansieht und den Vornehmen nicht vor dem Geringen bevorzugt, weil sie ja alle das Werk seiner Hände sind.
He does not accept the reputation of leaders; nor does he recognize the tyrant as he contends against the poor. For all are the work of his hands.
20 In einem Augenblick sterben sie, und mitten in der Nacht wird ein Volk erschüttert und muß dahinfahren, und Machthaber beseitigt er, ohne die Hand zu rühren.
They will die suddenly, and the people will be troubled in the middle of the night, but they will pass through it, and the violent will be taken away without a hand.
21 Denn seine Augen sind auf die Wege eines jeden Menschen gerichtet, und er sieht alle seine Schritte:
For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he examines all of their steps.
22 da gibt es kein Dunkel und keine noch so dichte Finsternis, daß die Frevler sich darin verbergen könnten.
There is no darkness and no shadow of death, where those who work iniquity may be hidden.
23 Denn er braucht einen Menschen nicht erst lange zu beobachten, damit er vor Gott zum Gericht erscheine:
For it is no longer within the power of man to enter into judgment with God.
24 nein, er zerschmettert Gewalthaber ohne Untersuchung und läßt andere an ihre Stelle treten.
He will break into many innumerable pieces, and he will cause others to stand up in their place.
25 Somit kennt er ihre Taten wohl und stürzt sie über Nacht, so daß sie zermalmt werden.
For he knows their works, and, as a result, he will bring the night, and they will be crushed.
26 Als Frevler, die sie sind, geißelt er sie vor aller Augen
Just as the impious do, he has struck them in a place where they can be seen.
27 zur Strafe dafür, daß sie von ihm abgefallen sind und alle seine Wege unbeachtet gelassen haben,
They, as if with great diligence, have withdrawn from him, and they refused to understand all his ways,
28 so daß sie den Hilferuf des Armen zu ihm hinaufdringen ließen und er den Notschrei der Bedrückten vernehmen mußte.
so that they caused the outcry of the needy to reach him, and he heard the voice of the poor.
29 Verhält er sich aber ruhig, wer darf ihn verdammen? Und verhüllt er sein Angesicht, wer kann ihn schauen? So waltet er sowohl über Völkern als auch über einzelnen Menschen gleicherweise,
For, when he grants peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hides his face, who is there that can contemplate him, either among the nations, or among all men?
30 damit nicht ruchlose Menschen die Herrschaft führen, Leute, welche Fallstricke für das Volk sein würden.«
He causes a hypocritical man to reign because of the sins of the people.
31 »Denn soll etwa Gott zu dir sagen: ›Ich habe mich geirrt; will (aber) nicht wieder verkehrt handeln?
Therefore, since I have been speaking about God, I will not prevent you from doing the same.
32 Über das, was ich nicht sehe, belehre du mich; wenn ich unrecht gehandelt habe, will ich es nicht wieder tun.‹
If I have erred, you may teach me; if I have spoken unfairly, I will add no more.
33 Soll er nach deinem Sinn Vergeltung üben, weil du unzufrieden bist, und sagen: ›Du hast das Bessere zu bestimmen, nicht ich; was du also weißt, das sprich aus!‹?
Does God require this of you because it is displeasing to you? For you were the first to speak, and not I. But if you know something better, speak.
34 Verständige Leute werden mir zugestehen und jeder weise Mann, der mir zuhört:
Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man listen to me.
35 ›Hiob redet ohne Einsicht, und seine Worte sind nicht wohlbedacht.‹
But Job has been speaking foolishly, and his words contain unsound teaching.
36 O daß doch Hiob fort und fort geprüft würde wegen seiner Widerreden nach Art der Frevler!
My father, let Job be tested even to the end; may you not retreat from a man of iniquity.
37 Denn zu seiner Verfehlung fügt er noch den Abfall (von Gott) hinzu: er höhnt laut in unserer Mitte und macht viel Redens gegen Gott.«
For he adds blasphemy on top of his sins; nevertheless, let him be constrained to be among us, and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.
