Jeremia 40

1 (Dies ist) das Wort, das vom HERRN an Jeremia erging, nachdem Nebusaradan, der Befehlshaber der Leibwache, ihn von Rama aus entlassen hatte, wo er ihn, und zwar mit Ketten gefesselt, ausfindig gemacht hatte inmitten aller gefangenen Bewohner Jerusalems und Judas, die nach Babylon weggeführt werden sollten.

The word that has been to Jeremiah from YHWH, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, has sent him from Ramah, in his taking him—and he a prisoner in chains—in the midst of all the expulsion of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

2 Als nämlich der Befehlshaber der Leibwache den Jeremia dort ausfindig gemacht hatte, sagte er zu ihm: »Der HERR, dein Gott, hatte diesem Ort dieses Unglück angedroht,

And the chief of the executioners takes Jeremiah and says to him, “Your God YHWH has spoken this calamity concerning this place,

3 und der HERR hat es nun auch eintreten lassen und seine Drohung zur Ausführung gebracht: weil ihr gegen den HERRN gesündigt und auf seine Weisung nicht gehört habt, darum ist es euch so ergangen.

and YHWH brings [it] in, and does as He spoke, because you have sinned against YHWH, and have not listened to His voice, even this thing has been to you.

4 Und nun, siehe: ich mache dich jetzt frei von den Ketten an deinen Händen. Gefällt es dir, mit mir nach Babylon zu gehen, so komm: ich werde Sorge für dich tragen; hast du aber keine Lust, mit mir nach Babylon zu gehen, so laß es! Wisse wohl: das ganze Land steht dir offen: du kannst gehen, wohin es dir beliebt und gut dünkt!«

And now, behold, I have loosed you today from the chains that [are] on your hand; if [it is] good in your eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep my eye on you: and if [it is] evil in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, refrain; see, all the land [is] before you, to where [it is] good, and to where [it is] right in your eyes to go—go.”

5 Als Jeremia sich dann nicht sofort entschließen konnte, fuhr er fort: »So kehre doch zurück zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, den der König von Babylon zum Statthalter über die Städte von Juda eingesetzt hat, und bleibe bei ihm inmitten des Volkes wohnen; oder gehe, wohin du sonst Lust hast!« Hierauf gab ihm der Befehlshaber der Leibwache Lebensmittel und ein Geschenk und entließ ihn.

And while he does not reply—“Or turn back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or wherever it is right in your eyes to go—go.” And the chief of the executioners gives a ration and gift to him, and sends him away,

6 Jeremia begab sich dann nach Mizpa zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Ahikams, und blieb dort bei ihm inmitten des Volkes, das im Lande übriggeblieben war.

and Jeremiah comes to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwells with him in the midst of the people who are left in the land.

7 Als nun alle Truppenführer, die sich mit ihren Mannschaften noch im offenen Lande befanden, erfuhren, daß der König von Babylon Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, zum Statthalter über das Land eingesetzt und ihm die Obhut über Männer, Frauen und Kinder und über die geringen Leute im Lande, die nicht nach Babylon weggeführt worden waren, anvertraut habe,

And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon has appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he has charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;

8 da kamen sie zu Gedalja nach Mizpa, nämlich Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, sowie Johanan und Jonathan, die Söhne Kareahs, ferner Seraja, der Sohn Thanhumeths, die Söhne Ophais aus Netopha, und Jesanja, der Sohn des Maachathiters, samt ihren Leuten.

and they come to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan [the] sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.

9 Da richtete Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, an sie und ihre Leute unter feierlicher Anrufung Gottes folgende Ansprache: »Fürchtet euch nicht davor, den Chaldäern untertan zu sein! Bleibt im Lande wohnen und unterwerft euch dem König von Babylon: ihr werdet euch gut dabei stehen!

And Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, swears to them and to their men, saying, “Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

10 Seht, ich selbst bleibe hier in Mizpa, um euch vor den Chaldäern, die zu uns kommen werden, zu vertreten; ihr aber mögt Wein, Obst und Öl sammeln und in euren Behältern einheimsen und könnt ruhig in euren Ortschaften wohnen, die ihr in Besitz genommen habt!«

and I, behold, I am dwelling in Mizpah to stand before the Chaldeans who have come to us, and you, gather wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put [them] in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”

11 Ebenso erhielten alle Judäer, die sich in Moab und unter den Ammonitern sowie in Edom und in allen übrigen Ländern aufhielten, Kunde davon, daß der König von Babylon einen Rest (der Bevölkerung) in Juda übriggelassen und daß er Gedalja, den Sohn Ahikams, des Sohnes Saphans, über ihn als Statthalter eingesetzt habe.

And also all the Jews who [are] in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who [are] in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon has given a remnant to Judah, and that he has appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,

12 Da kehrten alle diese Judäer aus allen Gegenden, wohin sie versprengt worden waren, zurück und kamen ins Land Juda zu Gedalja nach Mizpa; sie hatten dann eine reiche Wein- und Obsternte.

and all the Jews from all the places to where they have been driven, return and enter the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit—to multiply abundantly.

13 Als aber Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, und alle Truppenführer, die noch im offenen Lande gestanden hatten, zu Gedalja nach Mizpa gekommen waren,

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field, have come to Gedaliah at Mizpah,

14 sagten sie zu ihm: »Weißt du wohl, daß Baalis, der König der Ammoniter, den Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, abgesandt hat, um dich zu ermorden?« Doch Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, schenkte ihnen keinen Glauben.

and they say to him, “Do you really know that Ba‘alis king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to strike your soul?” And Gedaliah son of Ahikam has not given credence to them.

15 Darauf besprach sich Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, heimlich mit Gedalja in Mizpa und sagte: »Laß mich doch hingehen und Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, erschlagen: kein Mensch soll etwas davon erfahren! Warum soll er dich ermorden, so daß alle Judäer, die sich hier bei dir gesammelt haben, wieder zerstreut werden und der letzte Rest von Juda zugrunde geht?«

And Johanan son of Kareah has spoken to Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, “Please let me go, and I strike Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one knows; why does he strike your soul? And all Judah who are gathered to you have been scattered, and the remnant of Judah has perished.”

16 Aber Gedalja, der Sohn Ahikams, antwortete Johanan, dem Sohne Kareahs: »Du darfst das nicht tun; denn was du da von Ismael sagst, ist nicht wahr!«

And Gedaliah son of Ahikam says to Johanan son of Kareah, “You do not do this thing, for you are speaking falsehood concerning Ishmael.”
