Jeremia 29

1 Dies ist der Wortlaut des Schreibens, das der Prophet Jeremia von Jerusalem aus an die am Leben gebliebenen Ältesten unter den in die Gefangenschaft Weggeführten und an die Priester und Propheten und überhaupt an das gesamte Volk sandte, das Nebukadnezar von Jerusalem nach Babylon in die Gefangenschaft geführt hatte –

And these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the exiles, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon;

2 nachdem der König Jechonja und die Königin-Mutter nebst den Hofbeamten, den Fürsten von Juda und Jerusalem, den Schmieden und Schlossern aus Jerusalem weggezogen waren –,

(After king Jechonyah and the queen-mother, and the court-officers, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the locksmiths, were departed from Jerusalem; )

3 und zwar durch Vermittlung Eleasas, des Sohnes Saphans, und Gemarjas, des Sohnes Hilkias, die Zedekia, der König von Juda, nach Babylon zu Nebukadnezar, dem König von Babylon, sandte.

By the hand of El'assah the son of Shaphan, and Gemaryah the son of Chilkiyah, [whom Zedekiah the king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, ] saying,

4 (Dies ist der Wortlaut des Schreibens: ) »So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, zu allen Verbannten, die ich aus Jerusalem nach Babylon habe wegführen lassen:

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the exiles, whom I have caused to be carried into exile from Jerusalem unto Babylon,

5 ›Baut Häuser und wohnt in ihnen! Legt Gärten an und genießt ihre Früchte!

Build ye houses, and dwell therein; and plant gardens, and eat their fruit;

6 Nehmt euch Frauen und zeugt Söhne und Töchter! Nehmt auch für eure Söhne Frauen und verheiratet eure Töchter an Männer, damit sie Mütter von Söhnen und Töchtern werden und ihr euch dort vermehrt und an Zahl nicht abnehmt!

Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may multiply there, and not be diminished.

7 Bemüht euch um die Wohlfahrt der Stadt, wohin ich euch in die Verbannung habe führen lassen, und betet für sie zum HERRN, denn auf seiner Wohlfahrt beruht euer eigenes Wohl.‹

And seek the welfare of the city whither I have banished you, and pray in its behalf unto the Lord; for in its welfare shall ye fare well.

8 Denn so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: ›Laßt euch von euren Propheten, die in eurer Mitte leben, und von euren Wahrsagern nicht täuschen und schenkt auch euren Träumen, die ihr euch träumen laßt, keinen Glauben!

For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you, and do not hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamt;

9 Denn Lügen sind es, die sie euch in meinem Namen weissagen: ich habe sie nicht gesandt‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.

For with falsehood do they prophesy unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.

10 Vielmehr, so spricht der HERR: ›Erst wenn volle siebzig Jahre für Babylon vergangen sind, werde ich mich euer wieder annehmen und meine Glücksverheißung an euch in Erfüllung gehen lassen, daß ich euch an diesen Ort zurückbringe.

For thus hath said the Lord, Because only after the accomplishment of seventy years for Babylon, will I visit you, and fulfill respecting you my good word, in causing you to return to this place.

11 Denn ich weiß wohl, was für Gedanken ich gegen euch hege‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›nämlich Gedanken des Heils und nicht des Leids, euch eine Zukunft und Hoffnung zu gewähren.

For I alone know the thoughts that I entertain respecting you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a [happy] future and hope.

12 Wenn ihr mich alsdann anruft, so will ich euch antworten, und wenn ihr zu mir betet, will ich euch erhören,

And you will call upon me, and ye will go and will pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 und wenn ihr mich sucht, werdet ihr mich finden; ja, wenn ihr dann von ganzem Herzen Verlangen nach mir tragt,

And ye will seek me, and shall find me, for ye will search for me with all your heart.

14 so will ich mich von euch finden lassen‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – ›und will euer Schicksal wenden und euch aus allen Völkern und von allen Orten her sammeln, wohin ich euch verstoßen habe‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›und will euch an den Ort zurückbringen, von wo ich euch habe wegführen lassen!‹«

And I will be found of you, saith the Lord; and I will bring back your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will cause you to return unto the place whence I have banished you.

15 »Wenn ihr aber sagt: ›Der HERR hat uns (auch) in Babylon Propheten erstehen lassen‹ –

Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon.

16 [ja, so sagt der HERR in betreff des Königs gesprochen, der auf dem Throne Davids sitzt, und in betreff des gesamten Volkes, das in dieser Stadt hier wohnt, in betreff eurer Volksgenossen, die nicht mit euch in die Verbannung gezogen sind –

But thus hath said the Lord concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into exile;

17 so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: ›Wisset wohl: ich entbiete gegen sie das Schwert, den Hunger und die Pest und will sie machen wie ekelhafte Feigen, die so schlecht sind, daß man sie nicht genießen kann,

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will send out against them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence; and I will render them like the detestable figs, that cannot be eaten, from being so bad.

18 ich will sie mit dem Schwert, mit Hunger und mit der Pest verfolgen und sie zum abschreckenden Beispiel für alle Reiche der Erde machen, zum Fluchwort und zum Entsetzen, zum Spott und Hohn bei allen Völkern, unter die ich sie verstoßen habe,

And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will make them a horror unto all the kingdoms of the earth, a curse, and an astonishment, and a derision, and a disgrace, among all the nations whither I have driven them;

19 zur Strafe dafür, daß sie auf meine Worte nicht gehört haben‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›da ich doch meine Knechte, die Propheten, früh und spät immer wieder zu ihnen gesandt habe, ohne daß ihr auf sie gehört hättet‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.

For the reason that they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, since I sent unto them my servants the prophets, causing them to rise up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the Lord.

20 ›So vernehmt nun doch ihr das Wort des HERRN, ihr Weggeführten alle, die ich aus Jerusalem nach Babylon in die Verbannung habe wegführen lassen.‹] –:

But ye—hear ye the word of the Lord, all ye exiles whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

21 so hat der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, in betreff Ahabs, des Sohnes Kolajas, und in betreff Zedekias, des Sohnes Maasejas, gesprochen, die euch Lügen weissagen in meinem Namen: ›Fürwahr, ich will sie in die Gewalt Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babylon, geben, damit er sie vor euren Augen hinrichten läßt!‹ –

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Achab the son of Kolayah, and of Zedekiah the son of Ma'asseyah, who prophesy unto you in my name falsehood, Behold, I will give them up into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon: and he shall smite them before your eyes.

22 es wird dann bei allen in die Verbannung weggeführten Judäern, die in Babylon leben, infolge dieses Geschicks ein Fluchwort in Aufnahme kommen, daß man sagt: ›Der HERR lasse es dir ergehen wie dem Zedekia und dem Ahab, die der König von Babylon im Feuer hat rösten lassen!‹ –,

And a curse shall be derived from them for all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, “May the Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Achab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;”

23 ›zur Strafe dafür, daß sie Gottlosigkeit in Israel verübt und mit den Frauen ihrer Volksgenossen Ehebruch getrieben und in meinem Namen Lügenworte verkündigt haben, wozu sie keinen Auftrag von mir hatten: mir selbst ist das wohlbekannt, und ich bin Zeuge dafür!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.«

Because they have done scandalous deeds in Israel, and have committed adultery with the wives of their neighbors, and have spoken in my name falsehood, which I had not commanded them; whereas I am the one that know, and am the witness, saith the Lord.

24 »Zu Semaja aus Nehalam aber sollst du folgendes sagen:

And to Shema'yahu the Nechelamite shalt thou say, as followeth,

25 So hat der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: Weil du in deinem eigenen Namen einen Brief an das gesamte Volk in Jerusalem und an den Priester Zephanja, den Sohn Maasejas, und an sämtliche Priester gerichtet hast folgenden Wortlauts:

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephanyah the son of Ma'asseyah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

26 ›Der HERR hat dich an Stelle des Priesters Jojada zum Priester bestellt, damit ein Aufseher im Tempel des HERRN für jeden Irrsinnigen, der als Weissager auftritt, vorhanden sei, damit du einen solchen Menschen in den Block und in Halseisen legest:

The Lord hath appointed thee priest in the place of Jehoyada' the priest, that ye should be superintendents in the house of the Lord, for every man that is mad, and that prophesieth, that thou shouldst put him in the stocks, and in prison:

27 nun, warum bist du nicht gegen Jeremia aus Anathoth vorgegangen, der sich herausnimmt, bei euch als Prophet zu wirken?

And now, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of 'Anathoth, who prophesieth to you?

28 Er hat ja doch ein Schreiben an uns nach Babylon geschickt, worin er sagt: Es wird noch lange dauern; baut (euch also) Häuser und wohnt in ihnen! Legt Gärten an und genießt ihre Früchte!‹ …«

For the reason that he hath sent unto us to Babylon saying, It will last a long time: build ye houses, and dwell therein; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit thereof.

29 Als nun der Priester Zephanja diesen Brief dem Propheten Jeremia persönlich vorgelesen hatte,

And Zephanyah the priest read the letter before the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 erging das Wort des HERRN an Jeremia folgendermaßen:

Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,

31 »Laß allen in die Verbannung Weggeführten folgende Botschaft zugehen: ›So hat der HERR in betreff Semajas aus Nehalam gesprochen: Weil Semaja als Prophet bei euch aufgetreten ist, ohne daß ich ihn gesandt habe, und er euch dazu verführt hat, euch auf Lügen zu verlassen,

Send to all the exiles, saying, Thus hath said the Lord concerning Shema'yah the Nechlamite, Whereas Shema'yah hath prophesied unto you, while I have not sent him, and he hath caused you to rely on a falsehood:

32 darum hat der HERR so gesprochen: Wisset wohl, ich will Semaja aus Nehalam und seine Nachkommen dafür büßen lassen: er soll keinen Nachkommen haben, der inmitten dieses Volkes wohnen bleibt, auch soll er das Glück nicht miterleben, das ich meinem Volke zugedacht habe!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –; ›denn er hat zum Ungehorsam gegen den HERRN aufgefordert.‹«

Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will inflict punishment on Shema'yah the Nechlamite, and on his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell in the midst of this people; and he shall not behold the good that I am doing for my people, saith the Lord; because he hath spoken revolt against the Lord.
