Jeremia 19

1 So hat der HERR zu mir gesprochen: »Gehe hin und kaufe dir beim Töpfer einen Krug, nimm dann einige von den Ältesten des Volkes und von den vornehmsten Priestern mit dir

Thus said the Lord, Go and buy a bottle from a maker of earthenware, and [take] some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

2 und gehe in das Tal Ben-Hinnom hinaus, das vor dem Eingang des Scherbentors liegt, und rufe dort laut die Worte aus, die ich dir sagen werde!

And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Charsith, and proclaim there the words that I will speak unto thee.

3 So sprich zu ihnen: Vernehmt das Wort des HERRN, ihr Könige von Juda und ihr Bewohner Jerusalems! So hat der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: ›Wisset wohl: ich will Unheil über diesen Ort bringen, daß jedem, der davon hört, die Ohren gellen sollen!

And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil over this place, so that the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

4 Zur Strafe dafür, daß sie mich verlassen und diese Stätte entehrt und an ihr anderen Göttern geopfert haben, von denen weder sie noch ihre Väter noch die Könige von Juda etwas gewußt haben, und weil sie diese Stätte mit dem Blute Unschuldiger erfüllt

For the reason that they have forsaken me, and have defiled this place, and have burnt incense in it unto other gods, which they had not known, either they or their fathers, or the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

5 und die Baalshöhen erbaut haben, um ihre Kinder als Brandopfer für den Baal zu verbrennen, was ich nie geboten noch angeordnet habe und was mir nie in den Sinn gekommen ist: –

And they have built the high-places of Ba'al, to burn their sons with fire as burnt-offerings unto Ba'al, which I had not commanded, nor spoken, and which had not come into my mind:

6 darum wisset wohl: die Zeit kommt‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›da wird dieser Ort nicht mehr Thopheth und dieses Tal nicht mehr Tal Ben-Hinnom, sondern Würgetal genannt werden.

Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called The Thopheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but, The valley of slaughter.

7 Da will ich dann die Klugheit Judas und Jerusalems an diesem Orte ausschütten und will sie fallen lassen durch das Schwert (auf der Flucht) vor ihren Feinden her und durch die Hand derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben trachten, und will ihre Leichen den Vögeln des Himmels und den Tieren des Feldes zum Fraß geben.

And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those that seek their life: and I will give their carcasses as food unto the fowls of the heaven, and unto the beasts of the earth.

8 Diese Stadt aber will ich zum abschreckenden Beispiel und zum Gespött machen, so daß jeder, der an ihr vorübergeht, sich entsetzen und wegen aller ihrer Leiden zischen soll.

And I will render this city desolate, and an [object of] derision: every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

9 Auch will ich sie das Fleisch ihrer Söhne und das Fleisch ihrer Töchter essen lassen, und sie sollen einer das Fleisch des andern verzehren infolge der Belagerung und Not, in die sie von ihren Feinden und von denen, die ihnen nach dem Leben trachten, versetzt werden.‹

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his associate, in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and those that seek their life, shall distress them.

10 Hierauf sollst du den Krug vor den Augen der Männer, die mit dir gegangen sind, zerschlagen

Then shalt thou break the bottle before the eyes of the men that are going with thee.

11 und zu ihnen sagen: ›So hat der HERR der Heerscharen gesprochen: Ebenso werde ich dieses Volk und diese Stadt zerschmettern, wie man Töpfergeschirr zerschmettert, das dann nicht wiederhergestellt werden kann; und im Thopheth wird man begraben, weil sonst kein Platz mehr zum Begraben vorhanden ist.

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, In this manner will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be restored again; and in Thopheth shall they bury, for want of room to bury.

12 Auf diese Weise will ich mit diesem Ort verfahren‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – ›und mit seinen Bewohnern: ein Thopheth will ich aus dieser Stadt machen.

Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to its inhabitants, and to make this city as Thopheth:

13 Da sollen dann die Häuser Jerusalems und die Paläste der Könige von Juda ebenso unrein werden wie die Stätte des Thopheth: nämlich alle die Häuser, auf deren Dächern sie dem gesamten Sternenheer des Himmels geräuchert und fremden Göttern Trankspenden ausgegossen haben.‹«

And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are unclean, shall become as the place of the Thopheth, with all the houses upon the roofs of which they have burnt incense to all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings to other gods.

14 Als Jeremia dann vom Thopheth, wohin der HERR ihn zur Verkündigung des Prophetenspruchs gesandt hatte, zurückkehrte, trat er in den Vorhof des Tempels des HERRN und sprach zum ganzen Volk:

Then came Jeremiah from the Thopheth, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he placed himself in the court of the house of the Lord; and said to all the people,

15 »So hat der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: ›Wisset wohl: ich will über diese Stadt und über sämtliche Ortschaften, die zu ihr gehören, all das Unheil kommen lassen, das ich ihr angedroht habe! denn sie haben sich halsstarrig gezeigt, um auf meine Worte nicht zu hören.‹«

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have spoken against it; because they have hardened their neck, so as not to hear my words.
