Jesaja 8

1 Weiter gebot der HERR mir folgendes: »Nimm dir eine große Tafel und schreibe auf sie mit Menschengriffel: ›Tafel des Raubebald-Schnellbeute‹;

And the Lord said unto me, Take thyself a large table, and write on it with distinct letters, Lemaher-shalal-chash-bas.

2 und als vertrauenswürdige Zeugen will ich für mich den Priester Uria und Sacharja, den Sohn Jeberechjas, haben.«

And I was to summon for myself trustworthy witnesses, Uriyah the priest, and Zecharyahu the son of Yeberechyahu.

3 Danach nahte ich mich der Prophetin, und als sie guter Hoffnung geworden war und einen Sohn geboren hatte, sagte der HERR zu mir: »Gib ihm den Namen ›Raubebald-Schnellbeute‹!

And I came near unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. Then said the Lord to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-chash-bas.

4 Denn ehe noch der Knabe zu rufen vermag ›mein Vater‹ und ›meine Mutter‹, wird man den Reichtum von Damaskus und die Beute Samarias vor dem Könige von Assyrien hinwegtragen.«

For before yet the boy shall know to call, My father, and my mother, the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.

5 Danach redete der HERR noch weiter zu mir folgendermaßen:

And the Lord continued to speak unto me again, saying,

6 »Zur Strafe dafür, daß dieses Volk die sanftfließenden Wasser der Siloahleitung verachtet und zu Rezin und dem Sohne Remaljas sich freundschaftlich gestellt hat:

Forasmuch as this people despiseth the waters of Shiloach that flow softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remalyahu's son:

7 darum, siehe, läßt der Allherr die gewaltigen und starken Wasser des Euphratstroms über sie heraufsteigen, nämlich den König von Assyrien und seine ganze Herrlichkeit; der wird über alle seine Flußbetten emporsteigen und über alle seine Ufer daherströmen

Yea therefore behold, the Lord bringeth up over them the strong and many waters of the river, —the king of Assyria, and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and step over all his banks;

8 und wird in Juda einbrechen, alles überschwemmen und überfluten, so daß er bis an den Hals reicht; und seine ausgespannten Schwingen werden die ganze Breite deines Landes ausfüllen, o Immanuel!«

And he shall penetrate into Judah, overflow and flood over, even to the neck shall he reach; and his outstretched wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O 'Immanu-el.

9 Erbost euch immerhin, ihr Völker, und – seid verzagt! Horcht auf, alle ihr fernen Bewohner der Erde! Rüstet euch immerhin und – seid verzagt! Rüstet euch und – seid verzagt!

Associate yourselves, O ye people, yet shall ye be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of the far portions of the earth: gird yourselves, yet shall ye be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, yet shall ye be broken in pieces.

10 Schmiedet einen Plan: er soll vereitelt werden! Faßt einen Beschluß: er soll nicht zur Ausführung kommen, denn »mit uns ist Gott«!

Take counsel together, yet shall it come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand firm; for with us is God.

11 Denn so hat der HERR zu mir gesprochen, indem seine Hand schwer auf mir lag und er mich ermahnte, nicht auf dem Wege dieses Volkes zu wandeln, mit den Worten:

For thus said the Lord to me with the strength of prophecy, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 »Ihr sollt nicht alles das Verschwörung nennen, was dieses Volk da als Verschwörung bezeichnet, und vor dem, was sie fürchten, sollt ihr euch nicht fürchten und es nicht für schrecklich halten.

Call ye not a conspiracy all that this people may call a conspiracy, and what it feareth shall ye not fear, and be not terrified [thereat].

13 Nein, den HERRN der Heerscharen, den sollt ihr für heilig halten, und er soll eure Furcht sein, er euer Schrecken!

The Lord of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your terror.

14 Dann wird er zum Anlaß der Heiligung werden und zu einem Stein des Anstoßes und zu einem Felsblock des Strauchelns für beide Häuser Israels, zu einer Schlinge und zum Fallstrick für die Bewohner Jerusalems,

And he will be for a sanctuary; but also for a stone of stumbling and for a rock to fall over unto both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 so daß viele unter ihnen straucheln und zu Fall kommen und zerschmettert werden, sich darin verstricken und verfangen.«

And many shall stumble over them, and fall, and be broken, and snared, and be caught.

16 (Ich will) die Offenbarung unter Verschluß legen, versiegeln die Weisung in meinen Jüngern!

Bind up the testimony, seal up the law among my disciples.

17 Ich will harren auf den HERRN, der sein Angesicht vor dem Hause Jakobs verbirgt, und will auf ihn hoffen!

And I will wait for the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope for him.

18 Wisset wohl: ich und die Kinder, die der HERR mir geschenkt hat, wir sind zu Sinnbildern und Vorbedeutungen in Israel vom HERRN der Heerscharen bestimmt, der da wohnt auf dem Berge Zion.

Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for tokens in Israel, from the Lord of hosts who dwelleth on mount Zion.

19 Wenn man aber zu euch sagt: »Ihr müßt die Totenbeschwörer und die Geisterkundigen befragen, die da flüstern und murmeln« (so entgegnet): »Soll nicht ein Volk bei seinem Gott anfragen? Soll es etwa betreffs der Lebenden bei den Toten anfragen?

And when they shall say unto you, “Inquire of those that have familiar spirits, and of the wizards, that whisper, and that mutter:” should not a people inquire of their God? [should we then] in behalf of the living [inquire] of the dead?

20 Nein, hin zur Weisung und hin zur Offenbarung! Wahrlich, derartige Reden führen nur die, denen kein Morgenrot mehr scheint.«

[Hold] to the law and to the testimony: if they are not to speak according to this word, in which there is no light.

21 Und es zieht dann, schwer geplagt und hungernd, im Lande umher; und wenn es Hunger leidet, wird es sich wütend gebärden und seinen König und seinen Gott verfluchen;

And the [people] shall pass through [the land], hard oppressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they will become enraged, and curse their king and their god, and turn toward on high [for aid].

22 es wird in die Höhe schauen und wird zur Erde niederblicken, aber da ist nur Bedrängnis und Finsternis, angstvolles Dunkel zu sehen, und düstere Nacht ist überallhin zerstreut.

And they will look unto the earth; and behold there are trouble and darkness, dimness of oppression, and they shall be scattered into obscurity.
