Jesaja 17
1 Ausspruch über Damaskus: »Wisset wohl: Damaskus scheidet aus der Zahl der Städte aus und wird zu einem wüsten Trümmerhaufen werden,
The doom of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is deprived of being a city, and it shall become decaying ruins.
2 verlassen für immer; seine Städte werden den Herden preisgegeben: die werden dort lagern, ohne daß jemand sie aufscheucht.
Forsaken are the cities of 'Aro'er: they shall be [given up] to flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
3 Zu Ende ist es mit dem Bollwerk für Ephraim und mit dem Königtum für Damaskus; und der Überrest von Syrien wird der Herrlichkeit der Söhne Israels gleichen« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.
And there shall cease the fortress from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: like the glory of the children of Israel shall they be, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 An jenem Tage wird ja die Herrlichkeit Jakobs geringfügig sein und sein Fettleib abmagern;
And it shall come to pass on that day, that the glory of Jacob shall vanish, and the fatness of his flesh shall become lean.
5 und es wird zugehen, wie wenn ein Schnitter Getreidehalme zusammenrafft und sein Arm Ähren absichelt; und es wird zugehen, wie wenn man Ähren bei der Nachlese sammelt im Tale Rephaim (südlich von Jerusalem).
And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the standing-corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as when one gleaneth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
6 »Es wird ja nur eine Nachlese von ihm übrigbleiben wie beim Abklopfen der Oliven: zwei, drei Beeren ganz oben im Wipfel, vier oder fünf an seinen, des Fruchtbaums Zweigen« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN, des Gottes Israels. –
And there shall be left on it gleaning-fruit, as one shaketh an olive-tree, two or three berries on the top of the uppermost bough, four or five on the outmost branches of a fruitful tree, saith the Lord the God of Israel.
7 An jenem Tage werden die Menschen zu ihrem Schöpfer hinschauen und ihre Blicke sich auf den Heiligen Israels richten;
On that day shall a man turn his regard up to his Maker, and his eyes shall look toward the Holy One of Israel.
8 sie werden dann nicht mehr hinschauen nach den Altären, dem Machwerk ihrer Hände, und nicht mehr hinblicken nach dem Gebilde ihrer Finger, nach den Götzenbildern und den Sonnensäulen.
And he shall not turn his regard to the altars, the work of his hands; and he shall not look at what his fingers have made, both the groves and the sun-images.
9 An jenem Tage werden ihre festen Städte sein wie die verlassenen Ortschaften in den Wäldern und auf den Berggipfeln, welche (die Hewiter und Amoriter) einstmals aus Furcht vor den Israeliten verlassen haben: es wird eine Wüstenei sein,
On that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken ruin in a forest, and on a mountain-peak, which they left because of the children of Israel: and the land shall be desolate.
10 weil du den Gott deines Heils vergessen und an den Felsen deiner Zuflucht nicht gedacht hast. Darum lege immerhin liebliche Pflanzungen an und besetze sie mit ausländischen Absenkern;
Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and the rock of thy strength thou hast not remembered; therefore wouldst thou plant luxuriant plantings, and wouldst set out the shoots of the stranger therein.
11 laß sie sprossen sogleich an dem Tage, an welchem du sie gepflanzt hast, und bringe deine Pflänzlinge schon am folgenden Morgen zur Blüte: es fällt doch jegliche Ernte aus am Tage des Wehs und des unheilbaren Schmerzes.
[Already] on the day that thou plantedst thou causedst to grow, and in the morning thou madest thy seed to blossom; but now fleeth the harvest on the day of disease and of incurable pain.
12 Wehe, ein Getümmel vieler Völker, die wie das Brausen des Meeres brausen! Und ein Getöse von Völkerschaften, die wie mächtige Wasser im Aufruhr tosen!
Woe to the raging of many people, who rage like the raging of the seas; and to the noise of nations, that make a noise like the roar of mighty waters!
13 Ja, die Völkerschaften tosen, wie gewaltige Wasser tosen; doch er bedroht sie scheltend: da fliehen sie weit weg und werden dahingejagt wie Spreu auf den Bergen vor dem Winde und wie wirbelnder Staub vor dem Sturm.
The nations will make a noise like the roaring of many waters; but He will rebuke it, and it shall flee afar off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and as thistle-down before the tempest.
14 Zur Abendzeit, da bricht Schrecken herein, doch ehe der Morgen kommt, sind sie dahin. Das ist das Schicksal derer, die uns berauben, und das Los derer, die uns plündern!
At eveningtide, behold, there is trouble; before yet it is morning it is no more. This is the portion of our spoilers, and the lot of those that plunder us.
