Haggai 2

1 am einundzwanzigsten Tage des siebten Monats erging das Wort des HERRN durch den Propheten Haggai folgendermaßen:

On October 17 [of that year], Yahweh gave [me], the prophet Haggai, [another] message.

2 »Sage doch zu Serubbabel, dem Sohne Sealthiels, dem Statthalter von Juda, und zu dem Hohenpriester Josua, dem Sohne Jozadaks, und zu allen vom Volk Übriggebliebenen folgendes:

[The message was that I should] say this to Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and to the other people who were still alive [in Jerusalem]:

3 ›Wer ist unter euch noch am Leben, der diesen Tempel in seiner früheren Herrlichkeit gesehen hat, und wie seht ihr ihn heute? Nicht wahr? Wie nichts kommt er euch vor.

“Do any of you remember how glorious our former temple was? [If you do, ] what does it look like to you now? It must seem like nothing at all.

4 Nun aber sei getrost, Serubbabel!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – ›und sei getrost, Josua, Sohn Jozadaks, du Hoherpriester, und seid getrost ihr alle, die ihr das Volk des Landes bildet‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›und arbeitet, denn ich bin mit euch!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.

But now the Commander of the armies of angels says to [all of you], to Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of you people who live in this nation, ‘[Do not be discouraged; ] be strong [DOU], and work [to build this new temple], because I will (be with/help) you.

5 ›Die Verheißung, die ich euch bei eurem Auszug aus Ägypten feierlich gegeben habe, bleibt bestehen, und mein Geist waltet in eurer Mitte: fürchtet euch nicht!‹

My Spirit remains among you, like I promised your [ancestors] when they left Egypt. [So] do not be afraid!’”

6 Denn so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: ›Nur noch [einmal] eine kurze Zeit währt es; da werde ich den Himmel und die Erde, das Meer und das feste Land erschüttern,

This is what the Commander of the armies of angels says: “Soon I will shake the sky and the earth, the oceans and the land again.

7 und ich werde alle Völker in Bewegung setzen, daß die Kostbarkeiten aller Heidenvölker herbeigebracht werden; und ich will dieses Haus mit Herrlichkeit erfüllen!‹ – so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.

I will shake [again the people of] all the nations, and as a result they will bring their treasures [to this temple]. I will fill this temple with [my] glory.

8 ›Mein ist das Silber und mein das Gold‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.

The silver and the gold [that they own] are [really] mine, [so they will bring them to me].

9 ›Größer wird die künftige Herrlichkeit dieses Tempels sein, als die des ersten gewesen ist‹ – so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen –, ›und an dieser Stätte will ich Frieden spenden‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.«

[Then] this temple will be more glorious than the former/previous [temple was]. And I will cause things to go well for you all. [That will surely happen because I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, have said it.”

10 Am vierundzwanzigsten Tage des neunten Monats, im zweiten Regierungsjahre des Darius, erging das Wort des HERRN durch den Propheten Haggai folgendermaßen:

On December 18 of that year, Yahweh gave [another] message to [me], the prophet Haggai.

11 »So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: ›Erbitte dir doch von den Priestern Belehrung über folgende Frage:

This is what the Commander of the armies of angels said to me: “Ask the priests [this question] about what is written in the laws [of Moses about sacrifices]:

12 Wenn jemand heiliges Fleisch im Zipfel seines Gewandes trägt und mit seinem Zipfel Brot oder Gekochtes, Wein, Öl oder sonst irgend etwas Genießbares berührt: wird dieses dadurch heilig?‹« Da gaben die Priester zur Antwort: »Nein!«

‘If one [of you priests takes from the altar some] meat that was sacrificed and is carrying it in his robes, if his robe touches [some] bread or stew or wine or [olive] oil or some other food, does that food also become (holy/acceptable for a sacrifice)?’” [When he said that to] the priests, they replied, “No.”

13 Nun fragte Haggai weiter: »Wenn aber ein durch eine Leiche Verunreinigter irgendeins von derartigen Dingen berührt, wird es dadurch unrein?« Da gaben die Priester zur Antwort: »Ja, es wird unrein!«

Then Haggai asked them, “If someone becomes unacceptable to God by touching a corpse, and [then he] touches any of those foods, will the food [also] become unacceptable to God?” The priests replied, “Yes.”

14 Da erklärte Haggai folgendes: »›Ebenso steht es um diese Leute, und ebenso ist dieses Volk da in meinen Augen beschaffen‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, ›und ebenso steht es mit allem Tun ihrer Hände und mit dem, was sie mir dort als Opfer darbringen: es ist unrein!‹«

Then Haggai replied, “Yahweh says [this]: ‘It is the same with you people and with this nation. Everything that you do and [all the sacrifices] that you all offer are unacceptable to me [because of the sins that you have committed].

15 »Nun aber richtet doch eure Aufmerksamkeit vom heutigen Tage an (auf die Zeit) rückwärts! Bevor man Stein auf Stein am Tempel des HERRN gelegt hat:

Think about what has been happening to you before you began to lay the foundation of my temple.

16 wie ist es euch da ergangen? Kam man damals zu einem Garbenhaufen von (vermutlich) zwanzig Scheffeln, so wurden es nur zehn; und kam einer zur Kelter in der Erwartung, fünfzig Eimer aus ihr zu schöpfen, so wurden es nur zwanzig.

When you expected [to harvest] 20 bushels [of grain, you harvested] only ten bushels. When someone went to a [big] wine vat to get 50 gallons [of wine], there were only 20 [gallons in the vat].

17 ›Ich habe euch mit Getreidebrand und Vergilben geschlagen und mit Hagel den Ertrag aller eurer Feldarbeit, und doch seid ihr nicht zu mir umgekehrt!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.

I sent (blight/hot winds) and mildew and hail to destroy all your crops. But still you did not return to me.

18 Nun aber gebt acht auf das, was in der Folgezeit vom heutigen Tage an geschehen wird, nämlich vom vierundzwanzigsten Tage des neunten Monats an, von dem Tage an, wo der Grundstein zum Tempel des HERRN gelegt worden ist. Gebt acht darauf,

Starting from this day, December 18, the day when [you] have laid the foundation of my [new] temple, continue to think carefully [about your situation].

19 ob die Aussaat noch weiterhin im Speicher liegen bleibt und ob der Weinstock und Feigenbaum, die Granate und der Ölbaum auch fürderhin nicht tragen! Von diesem Tage an werde ich segnen.«

Is there now [RHQ] [any grain] seed left in your barns? [No, because you have eaten the small amount that you harvested]. And there is no fruit on your grapevines and fig trees and pomegranate [trees] and olive trees. But, from now on, I will bless you!’”

20 Hierauf erging das Wort des HERRN zum zweitenmal an Haggai am vierundzwanzigsten Tage des (gleichen) Monats folgendermaßen:

On that same day, Yahweh gave another message to me.

21 »Sage zu Serubbabel, dem Statthalter von Juda, folgendes: ›Ich werde den Himmel und die Erde erschüttern

[He said, ] “Tell Zerubbabel the governor of Judah that I am going to shake the sky and the earth.

22 und die Throne der Könige umstürzen und die Macht der heidnischen Königreiche vernichten, und zwar werde ich die Streitwagen umstürzen samt denen, die darauf fahren, und es sollen die Rosse samt ihren Reitern zu Boden stürzen, einer durch das Schwert des andern (fallen).

I will end the power of the kings of [many] nations [DOU]. I will cause their chariots and their drivers, their horses and [the soldiers] who are riding on them to be destroyed. [What will happen is that I will cause the soldiers] to kill each other with their swords.

23 An jenem Tage‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen – ›will ich dich, Serubbabel, Sohn Sealthiels, nehmen und dich zu meinem Knecht machen‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN – ›und dich wie einen Siegelring halten; denn dich habe ich erwählt!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.«

Zerubbabel, you serve [me well]. So [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, declare that [like kings wear] signet rings [to show that they have authority to rule people], I will appoint you and cause you [to have authority to rule]. I will do that because I have chosen you. [That will surely happen because I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, have said it.”
