1 Mose 50

1 Da warf sich Joseph über seinen Vater hin, weinte über ihn gebeugt und küßte ihn.

Then Ioseph fell vpon his fathers face and wept vpon him, and kissed him.

2 Hierauf befahl Joseph den Ärzten, die in seinem Dienst standen, seinen Vater einzubalsamieren; da balsamierten die Ärzte Israel ein.

And Ioseph commanded his seruantes the physicions, to enbaume his father, and the physicions enbaumed Israel.

3 Darüber vergingen vierzig Tage; denn so lange Zeit ist zum Einbalsamieren erforderlich; und die Ägypter trauerten siebzig Tage lang um ihn.

So fourtie dayes were accomplished (for so long did the dayes of them that were enbaumed last) and the Egyptians bewayled him seuentie dayes.

4 Als dann die Zeit der Trauer um ihn vorüber war, sagte Joseph zu den Hofbeamten des Pharaos: »Wenn ich Gnade bei euch gefunden habe, so bringt doch folgendes zur Kenntnis des Pharaos:

And when the dayes of his mourning were past, Ioseph spake to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If I haue nowe found fauour in your eyes, speake, I pray you, in the eares of Pharaoh, and say,

5 Mein Vater hat mir einen Eid abgenommen und mir geboten: ›Wenn ich tot bin, sollst du mich in meinem Grabe beisetzen, das ich mir im Lande Kanaan angelegt habe!‹ Deshalb möchte ich nun hinaufziehen, um meinen Vater zu begraben; dann kehre ich wieder zurück.«

My father made me sweare, saying, Loe, I die, bury me in my graue, which I haue made me in the land of Canaan: now therefore let me go, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I wil come againe.

6 Da ließ ihm der Pharao sagen: »Ziehe hinauf und begrabe deinen Vater, wie du ihm hast schwören müssen!«

Then Pharaoh said, Goe vp and bury thy father, as he made thee to sweare.

7 So zog denn Joseph hin, um seinen Vater zu begraben, und mit ihm zogen alle Diener des Pharaos, die höchsten Beamten seines Hofes und alle Würdenträger des Landes Ägypten,

So Ioseph went vp to bury his father, and with him went all the seruants of Pharaoh, both the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt.

8 dazu die ganze Familie Josephs, seine Brüder und überhaupt die Angehörigen seines Vaters; nur ihre kleinen Kinder sowie ihr Kleinvieh und ihre Rinder ließen sie im Lande Gosen zurück.

Likewise all the house of Ioseph, and his brethren, and his fathers house: onely their children, and their sheepe, and their cattell left they in the land of Goshen.

9 Ebenso zogen sowohl Wagen als auch Reiter mit ihm, so daß es ein gewaltiger Zug war.

And there went vp with him both charets and horsemen: and they were an exceeding great company.

10 Als sie nun nach Goren-Haatad, das jenseits des Jordans liegt, gekommen waren, veranstalteten sie dort eine große und sehr feierliche Totenklage, und (Joseph) stellte um seinen Vater eine siebentägige Leichenfeier an.

And they came to Goren Atad, which is beyond Iorden, and there they made a great and exceeding sore lamentation: and he mourned for his father seuen dayes.

11 Als nun die dort wohnenden Kanaanäer die Trauerfeier bei Goren-Haatad sahen, sagten sie: »Da findet eine ernste Trauerfeier der Ägypter statt«; daher gab man dem Ort den Namen ›Trauerfeier der Ägypter‹; er liegt jenseits des Jordans.

And when the Canaanites the inhabitants of the lande sawe the mourning in Goren Atad, they sayde, This is a great mourning vnto the Egyptians: wherefore the name thereof was called Abel Mizraim, which is beyond Iorden.

12 Seine Söhne hielten es dann mit ihm so, wie er ihnen befohlen hatte:

So his sonnes did vnto him, according as he had commanded them:

13 sie brachten ihn nämlich in das Land Kanaan und bestatteten ihn in der Höhle auf dem Felde Machpela, welche (Höhle) Abraham samt dem Felde zum Erbbegräbnis von dem Hethiter Ephron gekauft hatte, östlich von Mamre.

For his sonnes caried him into the lande of Canaan, and buried him in the caue of the fielde of Machpelah, which caue Abraham bought with the fielde, to be a place to bury in, of Ephron the Hittite besides Mamre.

14 Hierauf kehrte Joseph, nachdem er seinen Vater bestattet hatte, nach Ägypten zurück, er und seine Brüder und alle, die mit ihm hinaufgezogen waren, um seinen Vater zu bestatten.

Then Ioseph returned into Egypt, he and his brethren, and al that went vp with him to bury his father, after that he had buried his father.

15 Als nun die Brüder Josephs sahen, daß ihr Vater tot war, sagten sie: »Wie nun, wenn Joseph feindselig gegen uns aufträte und uns all das Böse vergälte, das wir ihm zugefügt haben?«

And when Iosephs brethren saw that their father was dead, they sayde, It may be that Ioseph will hate vs, and will pay vs againe all the euill, which we did vnto him.

16 Darum sandten sie zu Joseph und ließen ihm sagen: »Dein Vater hat uns vor seinem Tode folgende Weisung gegeben:

Therefore they sent vnto Ioseph, saying, Thy father commanded before his death, saying,

17 ›So sollt ihr zu Joseph sagen: Ach bitte, vergib doch deinen Brüdern ihr Vergehen und ihre Verschuldung, daß sie so übel an dir gehandelt haben!‹ So vergib uns nun doch unser Vergehen; wir sind ja doch auch Knechte des Gottes deines Vaters!« Da weinte Joseph, als sie ihm das sagen ließen.

Thus shall ye say vnto Ioseph, Forgiue now, I pray thee, the trespasse of thy brethren, and their sinne: for they rewarded thee euil. And nowe, we pray thee, forgiue the trespasse of the seruants of thy fathers God. And Ioseph wept, when they spake vnto him.

18 Hierauf gingen seine Brüder selbst hin, warfen sich vor ihm nieder und sagten: »Hier sind wir als deine Knechte!«

Also his brethren came vnto him, and fell downe before his face, and sayde, Beholde, we be thy seruants.

19 Joseph aber antwortete ihnen: »Seid ohne Furcht! Denn stehe ich etwa an Gottes Statt?

To whome Ioseph sayde, Feare not: for am not I vnder God?

20 Ihr freilich hattet Böses gegen mich im Sinn, aber Gott gedachte es zum Guten zu wenden, um das auszuführen, was jetzt klar zutage liegt, nämlich um ein zahlreiches Volk am Leben zu erhalten.

When ye thought euill against mee, God disposed it to good, that he might bring to passe, as it is this day, and saue much people aliue.

21 Fürchtet euch also nicht! Ich selbst werde euch und eure Kinder versorgen.« So tröstete er sie und redete ihnen freundlich zu.

Feare not nowe therefore, I will nourish you, and your children: and hee comforted them, and spake kindly vnto them.

22 So wohnte denn Joseph in Ägypten samt der ganzen Familie seines Vaters, und Joseph wurde 110 Jahre alt.

So Ioseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his fathers house: and Ioseph liued an hundreth and tenne yeere.

23 Von Ephraim sah er Urenkel, und auch die Söhne Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, wurden noch bei Lebzeiten Josephs geboren.

And Ioseph saw Ephraims children, euen vnto the third generation: also the sonnes of Machir the sonne of Manasseh were brought vp on Iosephs knees.

24 Da sagte Joseph zu seinen Brüdern: »Ich stehe nun nahe vor dem Tode; Gott aber wird sich euer sicherlich gnädig annehmen und euch aus diesem Lande in das Land zurückführen, das er Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen hat.«

And Ioseph sayd vnto his brethren, I am ready to dye, and God will surely visite you, and bring you out of this land, vnto ye land which hee sware vnto Abraham, vnto Izhak, and vnto Iaakob.

25 Hierauf ließ Joseph die Söhne Israels folgendes beschwören: »Wenn Gott sich (dereinst) euer gnädig annehmen wird, dann sollt ihr meine Gebeine von hier mitnehmen.«

And Ioseph tooke an othe of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visite you, and ye shall cary my bones hence.

26 Dann starb Joseph im Alter von 110 Jahren; man balsamierte ihn ein und legte ihn in Ägypten in einen Sarg.

So Ioseph died, when he was an hundreth and ten yere olde: and they enbaumed him and put him in a chest in Egypt.
