1 Mose 39

1 Als aber Joseph nach Ägypten gebracht worden war, kaufte ihn Potiphar, ein Ägypter, ein Hofbeamter des Pharaos, der Oberste der Leibwächter, von den Ismaelitern, die ihn dorthin gebracht hatten.

Now, Joseph, was taken down to Egypt, —and Potiphar, courtier of Pharaoh, chief of the royal executioners, an Egyptian bought him, at the hand of the Ishmaelites, who had brought him down thither.

2 Gott der HERR aber war mit Joseph, so daß ihm alles gelang, während er im Hause seines Herrn, des Ägypters, war.

And it came to pass that Yahweh, was with Joseph, so that he became a prosperous man, —and was in the house of his lord the Egyptian.

3 Weil nun sein Herr sah, daß Gott mit ihm war und daß Gott alles, was er vornahm, ihm gelingen ließ,

And his lord saw, that, Yahweh, was with him—and that whatsoever, he was doing, Yahweh, was causing to prosper in his hand.

4 wandte er dem Joseph seine Gunst zu, so daß er sich selbst von ihm bedienen ließ; dann machte er ihn zum Aufseher über sein Hauswesen und vertraute ihm alles an, was er besaß.

So Joseph found favour in his eyes and waited upon him, —and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had, gave he into his hand.

5 Und von der Zeit an, wo er ihn zum Aufseher über sein Haus und zum Verwalter seines ganzen Besitzes gemacht hatte, segnete Gott das Haus des Ägypters um Josephs willen, so daß der Segen Gottes auf allem ruhte, was er besaß, im Hause und auf dem Felde.

And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian, for Joseph’s sake, —yea it came to pass, that the blessing of Yahweh, was with all that he had, in the house and in the field;

6 Daher überließ er sein ganzes Besitztum der Verwaltung Josephs: er selbst kümmerte sich neben ihm um nichts mehr als um seine Mahlzeiten. Joseph war aber schön von Gestalt und schön von Angesicht.

so that he left all that he had in the hand of Joseph, and took note with him of nothing, save only the bread which, he himself, was eating. And so it was that Joseph was comely in form and comely in countenance.

7 So kam es schließlich dahin, daß die Gattin seines Herrn ihre Augen auf Joseph richtete und ihn verführen wollte.

And it came to pass after these things, that his lord’s wife lifted up her eyes unto Joseph, —and she said—Come! lie with me.

8 Er weigerte sich aber und sagte zu der Gattin seines Herrn: »Bedenke doch! Mein Herr kümmert sich neben mir um nichts im Hause und hat mir alles anvertraut, was er besitzt.

And he refused and said unto his lord’s wife, Lo! my lord, taketh no note with me as to what is in the house, —but, all that pertaineth to him, hath he delivered into my hand:

9 Er selbst hat in diesem Hause keine größere Geltung als ich, und nichts hat er mir vorenthalten als dich allein, weil du ja sein Weib bist. Wie sollte ich da ein so großes Unrecht begehen und mich gegen Gott versündigen!«

There is no one greater in this house than I, neither hath he withheld from me anything, save only thyself in that thou, art his wife, —how, then could I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 Obgleich sie daher Tag für Tag auf Joseph einredete, hörte er doch nicht auf sie, daß er sich zu ihr getan und sich mit ihr vergangen hätte.

And it came to pass, that although she Spake unto Joseph day after day, yet hearkened he not unto her to lie beside her to be with her.

11 Nun begab es sich eines Tages, daß Joseph, wie gewöhnlich, ins Haus kam, um seine Geschäfte zu besorgen, während gerade keiner von den Hausangehörigen drinnen im Hause anwesend war.

And it came to pass, when, on a certain day, he went into the house to attend to his business, —and there was no man of the household, there in the house,

12 Da faßte sie ihn am Gewand mit den Worten: »Sei mir zu Willen!« Er aber ließ sein Gewand in ihrer Hand, ergriff die Flucht und eilte zum Hause hinaus.

that she caught him by his garment, saying—Come! lie with me. Then left he his garment in her hand, and fled and gat forth outside,

13 Als sie nun sah, daß er sein Gewand in ihrer Hand gelassen hatte und zum Hause hinausgeflohen war,

And it came to pass when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, —and fled forth outside,

14 rief sie die Leute ihres Hauses herbei und sagte zu ihnen: »Seht doch! Er hat uns da einen Hebräer hereingebracht, daß er seinen Mutwillen an uns auslasse! Der ist zu mir hereingekommen, um mich zu verführen; ich habe aber laut geschrien,

that she cried out to the men of her house and spake to them, saying, Look ye! he hath brought in to us a Hebrew man to insult us, —He came in unto me, to lie with me, so I cried out with a loud voice.

15 und als er hörte, daß ich ein lautes Geschrei erhob und um Hilfe rief, hat er sein Gewand neben mir liegen lassen und ist zum Hause hinaus entflohen!«

And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted high my voice, and cried out, then left he his garment beside me, and fled and gat forth outside.

16 Dann ließ sie sein Gewand neben sich liegen, bis sein Herr nach Hause kam;

So she laid by his garment beside her, —until his lord should come into his house,

17 und sie erzählte ihm den Vorfall mit denselben Worten, nämlich: »Der hebräische Sklave, den du uns hergebracht hast, ist zu mir hereingekommen, um seinen Mutwillen an mir auszulassen;

Then spake she unto him, according to these words, saying, —He hath been in unto me—the Hebrew servant whom thou didst bring in to us—to insult me.

18 als ich aber ein lautes Geschrei erhob und um Hilfe rief, hat er sein Gewand neben mir liegen lassen und ist zum Hause hinausgeflohen!«

And it came to pass when I lifted high my voice and cried out, then left he his garment beside me, and fled outside.

19 Als nun sein Herr die Mitteilung seiner Frau hörte, die ihm berichtete: »So und so hat dein Sklave sich gegen mich benommen!«, da stieg der Zorn in ihm auf;

And it came to pass, when his lord heard the words of his wife which she spake unto him saying, According to these words, hath thy servant done to me, Then was kindled his anger.

20 und der Herr Josephs ließ ihn ergreifen und ins Gefängnis werfen, an den Ort, wo die Gefangenen des Königs in Gewahrsam lagen; dort saß er nun im Gefängnis.

So Joseph’s lord took him and delivered him up to the prison: the place where, the prisoners of the king, were imprisoned, —so he was there, in the prison.

21 Aber Gott der HERR war mit Joseph und ließ ihn die Zuneigung aller gewinnen und wandte ihm auch die Gunst des obersten Aufsehers des Gefängnisses zu.

And it came to pass that, Yahweh, was with Joseph, and extended unto him lovingkindness, —and gave him his favour in the eyes of the chief of the prison.

22 Dieser übergab alle Gefangenen, die sich im Gefängnis befanden, dem Joseph zur Aufsicht; und alles, was es dort zu tun gab, hatte dieser zu besorgen.

So the chief of the prison delivered up, into Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison, —and of all that was doing there, he, was the doer.

23 Der oberste Aufseher des Gefängnisses kümmerte sich um gar nichts bei allem, was ihm anvertraut war; denn Gott der HERR war mit ihm, und Gott ließ alles gelingen, was er vornahm.

After nothing, was the chief of the prison looking, of whatever was in his hand, —in that Yahweh, was with him, and whatsoever, he was doing, Yahweh, was causing to prosper.
