1 Mose 25

1 Abraham aber nahm nochmals eine Frau namens Ketura;

And Abraham adds and takes a wife, and her name [is] Keturah;

2 die gebar ihm Simran und Joksan, Medan und Midian, Jisbak und Suah.

and she bears to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 Joksan wurde dann der Vater Sebas und Dedans; und die Söhne Dedans waren die Assuriter und Letusiter und die Leummiter.

And Jokshan has begotten Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim;

4 Die Söhne Midians waren Epha und Epher, Henoch, Abida und Eldaba. Alle diese sind Nachkommen der Ketura.

and the sons of Midian [are] Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah: all these [are] sons of Keturah.

5 Abraham aber übergab seinen gesamten Besitz dem Isaak;

And Abraham gives all that he has to Isaac;

6 dagegen den Söhnen, die er von den Nebenweibern hatte, gab er nur Geschenke und ließ sie noch bei seinen Lebzeiten von seinem Sohn Isaak hinweg ostwärts in das Ostland ziehen.

and to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham has, Abraham has given gifts, and sends them away from his son Isaac (in his being yet alive) eastward, to the east country.

7 Dies aber ist die Zeit der Lebensjahre, die Abraham gelebt hat: 175 Jahre;

And these [are] the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years;

8 da verschied und starb er in gesegnetem Alter, hochbetagt und lebenssatt, und wurde zu seinen Stammesgenossen versammelt.

and Abraham expires, and dies in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and is gathered to his people.

9 Seine Söhne Isaak und Ismael begruben ihn in der Höhle der Machpela auf dem Felde des Hethiters Ephron, des Sohnes Zohars, das östlich von Mamre lag,

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael bury him at the cave of Machpelah, at the field of Ephron, son of Zoar the Hittite, which [is] before Mamre—

10 auf dem Felde, das Abraham von den Hethitern käuflich erworben hatte; dort sind Abraham und seine Frau Sara begraben worden.

the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth—there Abraham has been buried, and his wife Sarah.

11 Nach Abrahams Tode aber segnete Gott dessen Sohn Isaak; dieser wohnte bei dem ›Brunnen des Lebendigen, der mich sieht‹.

And it comes to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blesses his son Isaac; and Isaac dwells by the Well of the Living One, my Beholder.

12 Dies ist der Stammbaum Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, den die Ägypterin Hagar, die Leibmagd Saras, dem Abraham geboren hat;

And these [are] the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, has borne to Abraham;

13 dies sind die Namen der Söhne Ismaels nach ihrer Geburtsfolge: Der erstgeborene Sohn Ismaels war Nebajoth, sodann Kedar, Abdeel und Mibsam,

and these [are] the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their births: firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14 Misma, Duma und Massa,

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15 Hadad und Thema, Jetur, Naphis und Kedma.

Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

16 Dies waren die Söhne Ismaels und dies ihre Namen nach ihren Niederlassungen und ihren Zeltlagern; zwölf Fürsten entsprechend ihren Völkerschaften.

these are sons of Ishmael, and these [are] their names, by their villages, and by their towers; twelve princes according to their peoples.

17 Und dies war die Lebensdauer Ismaels: 137 Jahre; da verschied er und starb und wurde zu seinen Stammesgenossen versammelt.

And these [are] the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expires, and dies, and is gathered to his people;

18 Sie hatten aber ihre Wohnsitze von Hawila an bis nach Sur, das östlich von Ägypten liegt, in der Richtung nach Assyrien hin: er hatte sich ostwärts von allen seinen Brüdern niedergelassen.

and they dwell from Havilah to Shur, which [is] before Egypt, in [your] going toward Asshur; in the presence of all his brothers has he fallen.

19 Dies ist der Stammbaum Isaaks, des Sohnes Abrahams: Abraham war der Vater Isaaks;

And these [are] the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham has begotten Isaac;

20 und Isaak war vierzig Jahre alt, als er Rebekka, die Tochter des Aramäers Bethuel aus Nord-Mesopotamien, die Schwester des Aramäers Laban, zur Frau nahm.

and Isaac is a son of forty years in his taking Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, from Padan-Aram, sister of Laban the Aramean, to him for a wife.

21 Und Isaak betete zum HERRN für seine Frau, denn sie hatte keine Kinder; da ließ der HERR sich von ihm erbitten, so daß seine Frau Rebekka guter Hoffnung wurde.

And Isaac makes plea to YHWH before his wife, for she [is] barren: and YHWH accepts his plea, and his wife Rebekah conceives,

22 Als aber die beiden Kinder sich in ihrem Schoße stießen, sagte sie: »Wenn es so steht, wozu bin ich da in diesen Zustand gekommen?« Und sie ging hin, um den HERRN zu befragen.

and the children struggle together within her, and she says, “If [it is] right—why [am] I thus?” And she goes to seek YHWH.

23 Da antwortete ihr der HERR: »Zwei Völker sind in deinem Mutterschoße, und zwei Volksstämme werden sich von deinem Leibe ausscheiden; der eine Stamm wird stärker sein als der andere, und der Ältere wird dem Jüngeren dienen.«

And YHWH says to her, “Two nations [are] in your womb, and two peoples from your bowels are parted; and the [one] people is stronger than the [other] people; and the older serves the younger.”

24 Als nun die Zeit ihrer Niederkunft da war, stellte es sich wirklich heraus, daß Zwillinge in ihrem Leibe waren.

And her days to bear are fulfilled, and behold, twins [are] in her womb;

25 Der erste, der zum Vorschein kam, war rotbraun, rauh am ganzen Leibe wie ein haariger Mantel; darum nannte man ihn Esau.

and the first comes out all red as a hairy robe, and they call his name Esau;

26 Hierauf kam sein Bruder zum Vorschein, der mit seiner Hand die Ferse Esaus gefaßt hielt; darum nannte man ihn Jakob. Isaak aber war bei ihrer Geburt sechzig Jahre alt.

and afterward his brother has come out, and his hand is taking hold on Esau’s heel, and one calls his name Jacob; and Isaac [is] a son of sixty years in her bearing them.

27 Als nun die Knaben heranwuchsen, wurde Esau ein tüchtiger Jäger, ein Mann des freien Feldes; Jakob dagegen war ein stiller Mann, der in den Zelten blieb.

And the youths grew, and Esau is a man acquainted [with] hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob [is] a plain man, inhabiting tents;

28 Isaak hatte den Esau lieber, weil er gern Wildbret aß; Rebekka aber hatte Jakob lieber.

and Isaac loves Esau, for [his] game [is] in his mouth; and Rebekah is loving Jacob.

29 Nun hatte Jakob eines Tages ein Gericht gekocht, als Esau ganz erschöpft vom Felde heimkam.

And Jacob boils stew, and Esau comes in from the field, and he [is] weary;

30 Da sagte Esau zu Jakob: »Laß mich doch schnell essen von dem Roten, dem roten Gericht da, denn ich bin ganz erschöpft!« Darum gab man ihm den Namen Edom.

and Esau says to Jacob, “Please let me eat some of this red-red thing, for I [am] weary”; therefore [one] has called his name Edom;

31 Aber Jakob antwortete: »Verkaufe mir zuvor dein Erstgeburtsrecht!«

and Jacob says, “Sell your birthright to me today.”

32 Da erwiderte Esau: »Ach, ich muß ja doch (bald) sterben: wozu nützt mir da das Erstgeburtsrecht?«

And Esau says, “Behold, I am going to die, and what is this to me—a birthright?”

33 Jakob aber sagte: »Schwöre mir zuvor!« Da schwur er ihm und verkaufte so dem Jakob sein Erstgeburtsrecht.

And Jacob says, “Swear to me today”: and he swears to him, and sells his birthright to Jacob;

34 Hierauf gab Jakob dem Esau Brot und von dem Linsengericht. Als er dann gegessen und getrunken hatte, stand er auf und ging seines Weges. So gab Esau sein Erstgeburtsrecht geringschätzig preis.

and Jacob has given bread and stew of lentils to Esau, and he eats, and drinks, and rises, and goes; and Esau despises the birthright.
