1 Mose 11
1 Es hatte aber die ganze Erdbevölkerung eine einzige Sprache und einerlei Worte.
And the whole earth had one language, and the same words.
2 Als sie nun nach Osten hin zogen, fanden sie eine Tiefebene im Lande Sinear und blieben dort wohnen.
And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
3 Da sagten sie zueinander: »Auf! Wir wollen Ziegel streichen und sie im Feuer hart brennen!« So dienten ihnen denn die Ziegel als Bausteine, und das Erdharz diente ihnen als Mörtel.
And they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn [them] thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
4 Dann sagten sie: »Auf! Wir wollen uns eine Stadt und einen Turm bauen, dessen Spitze bis in den Himmel reichen soll, und wollen uns einen Namen schaffen, damit wir uns nicht über die ganze Erde hin zerstreuen!«
And they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which [may reach] to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
5 Da fuhr der HERR herab, um sich die Stadt und den Turm anzusehen, welche die Menschen erbauten.
And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.
6 Da sagte der HERR: »Fürwahr, sie sind ein einziges Volk und haben alle dieselbe Sprache, und dies ist erst der Anfang ihres Unternehmens: hinfort wird ihnen nichts mehr unausführbar sein, was sie sich vornehmen.
And Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.
7 Auf! wir wollen hinabfahren und ihre Sprache dort verwirren, so daß keiner mehr die Sprache des andern versteht!«
Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 So zerstreute sie denn der HERR von dort über die ganze Erde, so daß sie den Bau der Stadt aufgeben mußten.
And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.
9 Daher gab man der Stadt den Namen Babel; denn dort hat der HERR die Sprache der ganzen Erdbevölkerung verwirrt und sie von dort über die ganze Erde zerstreut.
Therefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.
10 Dies ist der Stammbaum Sems: Als Sem 100 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm Arpachsad geboren, zwei Jahre nach der Sintflut.
These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
11 Nach der Geburt Arpachsads aber lebte Sem noch 500 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12 Als Arpachsad 35 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Selahs.
And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.
13 Nach der Geburt Selahs lebte Arpachsad noch 403 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
14 Als Selah 30 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Eber geboren.
And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
15 Nach der Geburt Ebers lebte Selah noch 403 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
16 Als Eber 34 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Peleg geboren.
And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
17 Nach der Geburt Pelegs lebte Eber noch 430 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
18 Als Peleg 30 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Rehu geboren.
And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19 Nach der Geburt Rehus lebte Peleg noch 209 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20 Als Rehu 32 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Serug geboren.
And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
21 Nach der Geburt Serugs lebte Rehu noch 207 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22 Als Serug 30 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Nahors.
And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
23 Nach der Geburt Nahors lebte Serug noch 200 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
24 Als Nahor 29 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Tharahs.
And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
25 Nach der Geburt Tharahs lebte Nahor noch 119 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
And Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
26 Als Tharah 70 Jahre alt war, wurden ihm seine Söhne Abram, Nahor und Haran geboren.
And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Und dies ist der Stammbaum Tharahs: Tharah hatte drei Söhne: Abram, Nahor und Haran; Haran aber war der Vater Lots.
And these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
28 Haran starb dann noch bei Lebzeiten seines Vaters Tharah in seinem Geburtslande, zu Ur in Chaldäa.
And Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.
29 Abram und Nahor aber nahmen sich ebenfalls Frauen: Abrams Frau hieß Sarai, und Nahors Frau hieß Milka; diese war eine Tochter Harans, des Vaters der Milka und der Jiska.
And Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.
30 Sarai aber war unfruchtbar: sie hatte keine Kinder.
And Sarai was barren: she had no child.
31 Da nahm Tharah seinen Sohn Abram und seinen Enkel Lot, den Sohn Harans, und seine Schwiegertochter Sarai, die Frau seines Sohnes Abram, und zog mit ihnen aus Ur in Chaldäa weg, um sich ins Land Kanaan zu begeben; als sie aber bis Haran gekommen waren, blieben sie daselbst wohnen.
And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.
32 Tharah brachte hierauf sein Leben auf zweihundertfünf Jahre; dann starb er in Haran.
And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
