Hesekiel 9

1 Hierauf hörte ich ihn mit lauter Stimme so rufen: »Es naht das Strafgericht über die Stadt! Ein jeder nehme jetzt also sein Zerstörungswerkzeug in die Hand!«

Then I heard Yahweh call out loudly, “[You men who are going to punish this city, ] bring here the guards of the city, each carrying a weapon.”

2 Und siehe, da kamen sechs Männer des Weges vom oberen Tore her, das nach Norden zu liegt; ein jeder von ihnen hatte sein Werkzeug zum Zertrümmern in der Hand; einer aber befand sich unter ihnen, der in ein linnenes Gewand gekleidet war und ein Schreibzeug (am Gürtel) an seiner Hüfte hatte; die kamen und traten neben den ehernen Altar.

Then I saw six men coming from the north gate of the temple area. Each one was carrying a weapon. With them was a man wearing a white linen robe. [carried] at his side a case containing things to write with. They [all] came into the temple and stood beside the bronze altar.

3 Die Herrlichkeit des Gottes Israels aber hatte sich inzwischen von dem Cherubwagen, auf dem sie sich befunden hatte, erhoben und war auf die Schwelle des Tempels getreten; dort rief er dem in Linnen gekleideten Manne, der das Schreibzeug an seiner Hüfte hatte,

[Then] the (glory/dazzling light) [that symbolized the presence] of the God of Israel rose up from above the four winged creatures and moved to the entrance of the temple. Then Yahweh called to the man wearing the linen robe,

4 die Worte zu: »Gehe mitten durch die Stadt, mitten durch Jerusalem, und bringe ein Zeichen auf der Stirn der Männer an, die da klagen und seufzen über all die Greuel, die innerhalb der Stadt verübt werden!«

and said to him, “Go throughout Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who are very sad [DOU] because of the detestable things that are being done inside the city.”

5 Zu den anderen aber sagte er so, daß ich es hörte: »Geht hinter diesem her durch die Stadt und schlagt darein! Eure Augen sollen kein Mitleid haben, und ihr dürft keine Schonung üben!

While I was listening, he said to the other six men, “Follow the man wearing the white robe, and kill people. Do not pity them or act mercifully toward them.

6 Greise, Jünglinge und Jungfrauen, Kinder und Frauen metzelt nieder, bis alles vernichtet ist! Aber alle, die das Zeichen an sich tragen, laßt unberührt! Und bei meinem Heiligtum hier macht den Anfang!« Da fingen sie bei jenen Ältesten an, die vor dem Tempelhause standen.

Slaughter old men, young men and women, older women and children, but do not harm any of those who have that mark on their forehead. Start at my temple.” So they began by killing the elders who were [worshiping idols] in front of the temple.

7 Dann sagte er zu ihnen: »Verunreinigt das Tempelhaus und füllt die Vorhöfe mit Erschlagenen an! Zieht aus!« So zogen sie denn aus und schlugen in der Stadt nieder.

Then Yahweh said to those men, “Pollute the temple by filling the [with the corpses of those whom] you kill! Start now!” So they went out and starting killing people throughout the city.

8 Als sie nun so mordeten und ich allein übriggeblieben war, da warf ich mich auf mein Angesicht nieder, schrie laut auf und rief: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott! Willst du denn alles umbringen, was von Israel noch übrig ist, indem du deinen Zorn über Jerusalem ausschüttest?«

While they were doing that, I was left alone. I prostrated myself on the ground and cried out, “Yahweh my Lord, are you going to get rid of all the people of Israel and Judah who are still alive, while you are severely punishing [MTY] [the people of] Jerusalem?”

9 Da antwortete er mir: »Die Schuld des Hauses Israel und Juda ist über alle Maßen groß: das Land ist voll von Bluttaten und die Stadt mit Verbrechen angefüllt! denn sie sagen: ›Der HERR hat das Land verlassen‹ und ›der HERR sieht es nicht!‹

He replied, “The sins of the people [MTY] of Israel and Judah are extremely great. People are murdered [MTY] everywhere [in this country], and this city is full of [people who act] unjustly. They say, ‘Yahweh has abandoned this country, and he does not [what we are doing].’

10 So soll denn auch mein Auge nicht mehr mitleidig blicken, und ich will keine Schonung mehr üben; nein, ich will die Strafe für ihr ganzes Tun auf ihr Haupt fallen lassen!«

[So] I will not pity them or act mercifully toward them. I will do to them the evil things that they have done to other people.”

11 Da erstattete der in Linnen gekleidete Mann, an dessen Hüfte sich das Schreibzeug befand, Bericht mit den Worten: »Ich habe getan, wie du mir geboten hast!«

Then the man wearing the linen robe returned, saying, “I have done what you commanded me to do.”
