2 Mose 34

1 Darauf gebot der HERR dem Mose: »Haue dir zwei Steintafeln zurecht, wie die ersten waren, dann will ich auf die Tafeln die Worte schreiben, die auf den ersten Tafeln gestanden haben, die du zertrümmert hast!

And Yahweh said unto Moses—Hew thee two tables of stone, like the first, —and I will write upon the tables the words which were upon the first tables which thou didst break in pieces;

2 Halte dich für morgen bereit, gleich früh auf den Berg Sinai zu steigen und dort auf der Spitze des Berges vor mich zu treten!

and be thou ready by the morning, —and thou shalt come up. in the morning, into Mount Sinai; then shalt thou station thyself for me there upon the top of the mount;

3 Es soll aber niemand mit dir heraufsteigen, und es darf sich auch niemand am ganzen Berge blicken lassen; sogar das Kleinvieh und die Rinder dürfen nicht gegen diesen Berg hin weiden!«

and, no man, may come up with thee, and let no man so much as be seen in all the mount, —and let not even the flocks or the herds, feed in front of that mountain.

4 So hieb sich denn Mose zwei Steintafeln zurecht, wie die ersten gewesen waren, und machte sich dann am andern Morgen früh auf und stieg zum Berge Sinai hinauf, wie der HERR ihm geboten hatte; die beiden Steintafeln trug er in der Hand.

So he hewed two tables of stone like the first and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up into Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, —and took in his hand two tables of stone.

5 Da fuhr der HERR im Gewölk hernieder, und er (Mose) trat dort neben ihn und rief den Namen des HERRN an.

And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and took his station with him there, —and proclaimed himself by the name Yahweh.

6 Da zog der HERR vor seinen Augen vorüber und rief aus: »Der HERR, der HERR ist ein barmherziger und gnädiger Gott, langmütig und reich an Gnade und Treue,

So Yahweh passed before him, and proclaimed, —Yahweh, Yahweh, A God of compassion and favour, —Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and faithfulness:

7 der Gnade auf Tausende hin bewahrt, der Unrecht, Übertretung und Sünde vergibt, doch auch (den Schuldigen) keineswegs ungestraft läßt, sondern die Schuld der Väter an Kindern und Kindeskindern heimsucht, am dritten und am vierten Glied.«

Keeping lovingkindness to a thousand generations, Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, Though he leave not, utterly unpunished, Visiting the iniquity of fathers, Upon sons, And upon sons’ sons, Unto a third and unto a fourth generation.

8 Da verneigte sich Mose eilends bis zur Erde, warf sich nieder

Then Moses made haste, —and bent his head towards the earth and bowed himself down;

9 und sagte: »Habe ich irgend Gnade bei dir, o Herr, gefunden, so wolle mein Herr doch in unserer Mitte einherziehen! Denn es ist ein halsstarriges Volk. Aber vergib uns unsere Schuld und Sünde und laß uns dein Eigentum sein!«

and said—If, I pray thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, O My Lord, I pray thee let My Lord go on in our midst, —although a stiff-necked people, it is, so wilt thou pardon our iniquity and our sin and take us as thine own.

10 Da antwortete der HERR: »Wohlan, ich schließe einen Bund: vor deinem ganzen Volk will ich Wunder tun, wie sie auf der ganzen Erde und unter allen Völkern noch nie vollführt sind, und das ganze Volk, in dessen Mitte du lebst, soll das Walten des HERRN wahrnehmen; denn wunderbar soll das sein, was ich an dir tun werde.

And he said—Lo! I, am about to solemnise a covenant, -in presence of all thy people, will I do marvellous things, which have not been created in any part of the earth nor among any of the nations, —so shall all the people in whose midst thou, art see the work of Yahweh for a fearful thing, it is, which I, am doing with thee.

11 Beobachte wohl, was ich dir heute gebiete! Siehe, ich will vor dir die Amoriter, Kanaanäer, Hethiter, Pherissiter, Hewiter und Jebusiter vertreiben.

Take thou heed what, I, am commanding thee this day, —behold me! driving out from before thee—the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Hüte dich wohl, mit den Bewohnern des Landes, in das du kommen wirst, einen Vertrag zu schließen, damit sie für dich nicht, wenn sie unter dir wohnen bleiben, ein Fallstrick werden!

Take heed to thyself, Lest thou solemnise a covenant with the inhabitant of the land, whereupon, thou, art about to enter, —Lest he become a snare in thy midst;

13 Ihr sollt vielmehr ihre Altäre niederreißen, ihre Malsteine zertrümmern und ihre Götzenbäume umhauen.

For their altars, shall ye smash, And their pillars, shall ye shiver, —And their sacred-stems, shall ye fell.

14 Denn du sollst keinen andern Gott anbeten! Denn der HERR heißt ›Eiferer‹ und ist ein eifersüchtiger Gott.

For thou shalt not bow thyself down to another GOD, —For as for Yahweh, Jealous, is his name, A jealous GOD, he is:

15 Schließe daher ja keinen Vertrag mit den Bewohnern des Landes, damit du nicht, wenn sie ihren Götzendienst treiben und ihren Göttern opfern und sie dich dazu einladen, an ihren Opfermahlen teilnimmst.

Lest thou solemnise a covenant with the inhabitant of the land, —And then as surely as they go unchastely after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, So surely will he invite thee, And thou wilt eat of his sacrifice;

16 Du würdest dann auch von ihren Töchtern manche für deine Söhne zu Frauen nehmen, und diese würden, wenn sie ihren Götzendienst treiben, deine Söhne zu demselben Götzendienst verführen.«

And thou wilt take of his daughters for thy sons, —And his daughters will go unchastely after their gods, And will cause thy sons to go unchastely after their gods.

17 »Du sollst dir keine gegossenen Gottesbilder machen! –

Molten gods, shalt thou not make to thee.

18 Das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote sollst du beobachten! Sieben Tage lang sollst du ungesäuertes Brot essen, wie ich dir geboten habe, zur bestimmten Zeit des Monats Abib; denn im Monat Abib bist du aus Ägypten ausgezogen. –

The festival of unleavened cakes, shalt thou keep, seven days, shalt thou eat unleavened cakes, which I commanded thee, at the set time, in the month Abib, —for in the month Abib, camest thou forth out of Egypt.

19 Alle Erstgeburt gehört mir, auch von all deinem Vieh jede männliche Erstgeburt, der erste Wurf vom Rind- und Kleinvieh.

Every one that is the first to be born, is mine, —and every one of thy cattle that is born a male, firstling of oxen or sheep.

20 Aber das Erstgeborene vom Esel sollst du entweder mit einem Lamm lösen oder, wenn du das nicht willst, ihm das Genick brechen. Jeden Erstgeborenen von deinen Söhnen sollst du lösen! Und man darf vor mir nicht mit leeren Händen erscheinen! –

But the firstling of an ass, thou mayst redeem with a lamb, and if thou wilt not redeem it, then shalt thou break its neck. Every firstborn of thy sons, shalt thou redeem, and he must not see my face, with empty hand.

21 Sechs Tage lang sollst du arbeiten, aber am siebten Tage sollst du ruhen! Auch während der Zeit des Pflügens und der Ernte sollst du ruhen! –

Six days, shalt thou labour, but on the seventh day, shalt thou rest, —in plowing time and in harvest, shalt thou rest.

22 Auch das Wochenfest sollst du feiern, nämlich das Fest der Erstlinge der Weizenernte, sowie das Fest der Lese an der Wende des Jahres! –

And the festival of weeks, shalt thou make to thee, the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, —and the festival of ingathering, at the closing in of the year:

23 Dreimal im Jahr sollen alle deine männlichen Personen vor Gott dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, erscheinen.

three times in the year, shall every one of thy males see the face of the Lord Yahweh the God of Israel.

24 Denn ich werde die Heidenvölker vor dir austreiben und dein Gebiet weit ausdehnen; und niemand soll nach deinem Land Verlangen tragen, während du hinaufziehst, um dich vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, sehen zu lassen dreimal im Jahr. –

For I will root out nations from before thee, and will enlarge thy borders, —and no man shall covet thy land, when thou goes up to see the face of Yahweh thy God, three times in the year.

25 Du sollst das Blut meines Schlachtopfers nicht zusammen mit gesäuertem Brot darbringen! Und vom Opferfleisch des Passahfestes darf nichts über Nacht bis zum andern Morgen übrigbleiben! –

Thou shalt not slay, along with anything leavened, the blood of my sacrifice, —neither shall remain to the morning, the sacrifice of the festival of the passover.

26 Das Vorzüglichste von den Erstlingen deines Feldes sollst du in das Haus des HERRN, deines Gottes, bringen! – Du sollst kein Böckchen in der Milch seiner Mutter kochen!«

The beginning of the firstfruits of thy ground, shalt thou bring into the house of Yahweh, thy God, Thou shalt not boil a kid, in the milk of its dam.

27 Weiter gebot der HERR dem Mose: »Schreibe dir diese Verordnungen auf! Denn auf Grund dieser Verordnungen habe ich mit dir und mit Israel einen Bund geschlossen.«

And Yahweh said unto Moses, Write for thyself these words, for according to the tenor of these words, have I solemnized with thee, a covenant, and with Israel.

28 Hierauf verweilte Mose dort beim HERRN vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte, ohne Brot zu essen und Wasser zu trinken; und er schrieb auf die Tafeln die Gebote des Bundes, die zehn Gebote.

So then he was there, with Yahweh, forty days and forty nights, bread, did he not eat and, water, did he not drink, and he wrote upon the tables, the words of the covenant, the ten words.

29 Als Mose dann vom Berge Sinai hinabstieg – die beiden Gesetzestafeln hatte er in der Hand, als er vom Berge hinabstieg –, da wußte Mose nicht, daß die Haut seines Angesichts infolge seiner Unterredung mit dem HERRN strahlend geworden war.

And it came to pass, when Moses came down out of Mount Sinai, with the two tables of testimony in the hand of Moses, when he came down out of the mount, that, Moses, knew not that the skin of his face shone, through his having spoken with him.

30 Als nun Aaron und alle Israeliten Mose ansahen (und wahrnahmen), daß die Haut seines Angesichts strahlte, da fürchteten sie sich, ihm nahe zu kommen.

And Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and lo! the skin of his face shone, and they stood in awe of drawing nigh unto him.

31 Als Mose sie aber herbeirief, wandten sich Aaron und alle Vorsteher der Gemeinde ihm wieder zu, und Mose redete mit ihnen.

So then Moses called unto them, and Aaron and all the princes in the assembly returned unto him, —and Moses spake unto them.

32 Darauf traten auch alle Israeliten nahe an ihn heran, und er teilte ihnen alles mit, was der HERR ihm auf dem Berge Sinai aufgetragen hatte.

And afterwards, came nigh, all the sons of Israel, and he gave them in commandment all that Yahweh had spoken with him in Mount Sinai.

33 Als er dann mit seinen Mitteilungen zu Ende war, legte er eine Hülle auf sein Angesicht.

And when Moses had made an end of speaking with them, he put over his face a veil:

34 Sooft Mose nun vor den HERRN trat, um mit ihm zu reden, legte er die Hülle ab, bis er wieder hinausging; und wenn er hinausgekommen war, teilte er den Israeliten alles mit, was ihm geboten worden war.

but, as often as Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he put aside the veil until he came out, —and, as often as he came out and spake unto the sons of Israel, that which he had been commanded,

35 Dabei bekamen dann die Israeliten das Gesicht Moses zu sehen (und machten die Beobachtung), daß die Haut in seinem Gesicht strahlend geworden war; Mose aber legte dann die Hülle wieder auf sein Gesicht, bis er wieder hineinging, um mit dem HERRN zu reden.

the sons of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses face shone, —so Moses again put the veil over his face, until he went in to speak with him.
