2 Mose 28
1 »Du aber sollst deinen Bruder Aaron nebst seinen Söhnen aus der Mitte der Israeliten zu dir herantreten lassen, damit er mir als Priester diene, nämlich Aaron und seine Söhne Nadab und Abihu, Eleasar und Ithamar.
“Summon your [older] brother Aaron and his sons—Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ([Set them apart/They are the ones whom I have chosen]) from [the rest of] the Israeli people, in order that they can serve me [by being] priests.
2 Du sollst also für deinen Bruder Aaron heilige Kleider anfertigen lassen, ihm zur Ehre und zum Schmuck.
[Tell the people to] make beautiful clothes for Aaron, clothes that are [suitable for one who] has this dignified and sacred [work].
3 Besprich dich also mit allen kunstverständigen Personen, die ich mit kunstsinnigem Geist erfüllt habe, daß sie die Kleider Aarons anfertigen, damit man ihn darin weihe und er mir als Priester dienen kann.
Talk to all the skilled workmen, those to whom I have given special ability. [Tell them] to make clothes for Aaron, for him to wear when he is (set apart/dedicated) [to become] a priest to serve me.
4 Folgendes aber sind die Kleidungsstücke, die sie anfertigen sollen: das Brustschild, das Schulterkleid, das Obergewand, das Unterkleid aus gewürfeltem Stoff, der Kopfbund und der Gürtel. Diese heiligen Kleider sollen sie für deinen Bruder Aaron und seine Söhne anfertigen, damit er mir als Priester diene;
These are the clothes that they are to make: A sacred pouch for Aaron to wear over his chest, a sacred apron, a robe, an embroidered tunic/gown, a (turban/cloth to wrap around his head), and a sash/waistband. These are the clothes that your [older] brother Aaron and his sons must wear as they serve me [by doing the work that] priests do.
5 und zwar sollen sie Gold, blauen und roten Purpur, Karmesin und Byssus dazu verwenden.«
The skilled workmen must use fine linen and blue, purple, and red yarn/thread to make these clothes.”
6 »Das Schulterkleid sollen sie aus Gold, blauem und rotem Purpur, Karmesin und gezwirntem Byssus in Kunstweberarbeit anfertigen.
“The skilled workmen must make the sacred apron from fine linen, and skillfully embroider it with blue, purple, and red yarn/thread.
7 Es soll ein Paar zusammenfügbarer Schulterstücke haben und an seinen beiden (oberen) Enden mittels derselben zusammengefügt werden.
It must have two shoulder straps, to join the front part to the back part.
8 Die Binde, die sich an ihm befindet und dazu dient, es fest anzulegen, soll von gleicher Arbeit und aus einem Stück mit ihm bestehen, nämlich aus Goldfäden, blauem und rotem Purpur, Karmesin und gezwirntem Byssus.
A carefully-woven sash, which must be made from the same materials as the sacred apron, must be [sewn] onto the sacred apron.
9 Ferner sollst du zwei Onyxsteine nehmen und die Namen der Söhne Israels in sie eingraben,
[A skilled workman] must take two [expensive] onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the twelve sons of Jacob.
10 sechs ihrer Namen auf den einen Stein und die sechs übrigen Namen auf den andern Stein, und zwar nach ihrer Geburtsfolge.
He must engrave the names in the order in which Jacob’s sons were born. He must engrave six names on one stone, and the other six names on the other stone.
11 In Steinschneiderarbeit, mittels Siegelstecherkunst, sollst du die beiden Steine mit den Namen der Söhne Israels stechen lassen, und mit einer Einfassung von goldenem Flechtwerk sollst du sie versehen.
A gem-cutter should engrave these names on the stones. Then he should enclose the stones in (settings/tiny gold frames).
12 Dann sollst du die beiden Steine auf die beiden Schulterstücke des Schulterkleides als Steine des Gedenkens an die Israeliten setzen, damit Aaron ihre Namen vor dem HERRN auf seinen beiden Schultern zur Erinnerung trägt.
Then he should fasten the stones onto the shoulder straps [of the sacred apron], to represent the twelve Israeli tribes. In that way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes on his shoulders in order that [I], Yahweh, will never forget [my people] (OR, in order that [he will always] remember that [those tribes belong to] Yahweh).
13 Ferner sollst du Geflechte von Golddraht anfertigen
The settings for the stones must be made from gold.
14 und zwei Kettchen von feinem Gold; in Gestalt von gedrehten Schnüren sollst du sie anfertigen und diese aus Schnüren geflochtenen Kettchen an den Goldgeflechten befestigen.«
[Tell them to] make two tiny chains that are braided like cords, and fasten the chains to the settings.”
15 »Sodann fertige das Orakel-Brustschild in Kunstweberarbeit an; ganz so, wie das Schulterkleid gearbeitet ist, sollst du es anfertigen, nämlich aus Gold, blauem und rotem Purpur, Karmesin und gezwirntem Byssus sollst du es herstellen.
“[Tell the skilled workman to] make a sacred pouch for Aaron to wear over his chest. [He will use the things he puts into the pouch] to determine [my answers to the questions he asks]. It must be made of the same materials as the sacred apron, and embroidered in the same way.
16 Viereckig soll es sein, doppelt gelegt, eine Spanne lang und eine Spanne breit.
It is to be square, and the material must be folded double, so that it is (9 in./22 cm.) on each side.
17 Besetze es mit einem Besatz von Edelsteinen in vier Reihen von Steinen; eine Reihe: ein Karneol, ein Topas und ein Smaragd sollen die erste Reihe bilden;
[The skilled workman must] fasten four rows of valuable stones onto the pouch. In the first row he must put a [red] ruby, a [yellow] topaz, and a [red] garnet.
18 die zweite Reihe: ein Rubin, ein Saphir und ein Jaspis;
In the second row he must put a [green] emerald, a [blue] sapphire, and a [clear/white] diamond.
19 die dritte Reihe: ein Hyazinth, ein Achat und ein Amethyst;
In the third row he must put a [red] jacinth, a [white] agate, and a [purple] amethyst.
20 die vierte Reihe: ein Chrysolith, ein Soham und ein Onyx; in Goldgeflecht sollen sie bei ihrer Einsetzung gefaßt sein.
In the fourth row he must put a [yellow] beryl, a [red] carnelian, and a [green] jasper.
21 Die Steine sollen also entsprechend den Namen der Söhne Israels zwölf sein, nach deren Namen; mittels Siegelstecherkunst sollen sie, ein jeder mit seinem besonderen Namen nach den zwölf Stämmen versehen sein.
A gem-cutter should engrave on each of these twelve stones the name of one of the sons of Jacob. These names will represent the twelve Israeli tribes.
22 An dem Brustschild sollst du dann schnurähnlich geflochtene Kettchen von feinem Gold befestigen.
The two [chains] that are made from pure gold and braided like cords are for [attaching] the sacred pouch [to the sacred apron].
23 Du sollst nämlich zwei goldene Ringe an dem Brustschilde anbringen und diese zwei Ringe an den beiden (oberen) Ecken des Brustschildes befestigen.
[The workman must] make two gold rings, and attach them to the upper corners of the sacred pouch.
24 Hierauf befestige die beiden goldenen Schnüre an den beiden Ringen, die sich an den (oberen) Ecken des Brustschildes befinden,
[He must make] two gold cords, and fasten one end of each cord to one of the rings.
25 und befestige die beiden (anderen) Enden der beiden Schnüre an den beiden Geflechten und diese wiederum an den Schulterstücken des Schulterkleides auf dessen Vorderseite.
He must fasten the other end of each cord to the two settings [that enclose the stones]. In that way, the sacred pouch will be attached to the shoulder straps of the sacred apron.
26 Dann fertige noch zwei goldene Ringe an und setze sie an die beiden (unteren) Ecken des Brustschildes, und zwar an seinen inneren Saum, der dem Schulterkleide zugekehrt ist.
Then [he must] make two more gold rings, and attach them to the lower corners of the sacred pouch, on the inside edges, next to the sacred apron.
27 Fertige dann noch zwei goldene Ringe an und setze sie an die beiden Schulterstücke des Schulterkleides, unten an seine Vorderseite, dicht bei der Stelle, wo das Schulterkleid zusammengeht, oberhalb der Binde des Schulterkleides.
[He must] make two more gold rings, and attach them to the lower part of the front of the shoulder straps, near to where [the shoulder straps] are joined [to the sacred apron], just above the carefully-woven sash/waistband.
28 Hierauf knüpfe man das Brustschild mit seinen Ringen vermittels einer Schnur von blauem Purpur an die Ringe des Schulterkleides, so daß das Brustschild über der Binde des Schulterkleides fest anliegt und das Brustschild sich nicht von seiner Stelle auf dem Schulterkleide verschieben kann.
The skilled workman must tie the rings on the sacred pouch to the rings on the sacred apron with a blue cord, so that the sacred pouch is above the sash/waistband and does not come loose from the sacred apron.
29 Aaron soll so die Namen der Söhne Israels an dem Orakel-Brustschild auf seinem Herzen tragen, sooft er in das Heiligtum hineingeht, zur beständigen Erinnerung vor dem HERRN.
In that way, Aaron will have the names of the twelve Israeli tribes in the sacred pouch close to his chest when he enters the Holy Place. This will remind him that I, Yahweh, [will never forget my people] (OR, [that he represents my people when he talks to me, Yahweh]).
30 In das Orakel-Brustschild aber sollst du die (heiligen Lose) Urim und Thummim tun, damit sie auf dem Herzen Aarons liegen, sooft er vor den HERRN tritt; und Aaron soll so das Orakel für die Israeliten beständig vor dem HERRN auf seinem Herzen tragen.«
Put into the sacred pouch the two things that the priest will use to determine my answers to the questions he asks. In that way, they will be close to his chest when he enters [the Holy Place to talk] to me. He will use them to find out what is my will for the Israeli people.”
31 »Sodann sollst du das Obergewand zu dem Schulterkleide ganz aus blauem Purpur anfertigen.
“[Tell the workmen to] use only blue [cloth] to make the robe that is to be worn underneath the priest’s sacred apron.
32 Seine Kopföffnung soll sich in der Mitte befinden, und rings um diese Öffnung soll ein Saum in Weberarbeit gehen; eine Öffnung soll es haben wie die eines Panzerhemdes, damit es nicht einreißt.
It is to have an opening through which [the priest] can put his head. They must sew a border around this opening, to keep the material from tearing.
33 Unten an seinem Saum sollst du Granatäpfel aus blauem und rotem Purpur und Karmesin ringsum anbringen und zwischen ihnen goldene Glöckchen ringsum,
At the lower edge on the robe, they must fasten [decorations that look like] pomegranate fruit. They must be [woven from] blue, purple, and red yarn/thread.
34 so daß am ganzen Saum des Obergewandes ringsum immer auf ein goldenes Glöckchen ein Granatapfel folgt.
Between each of these decorations, they must fasten a tiny gold bell.
35 Aaron soll (dieses Kleid) tragen, um den heiligen Dienst darin zu versehen, damit man es klingeln hört, sooft er in das Heiligtum vor den HERRN hineingeht und sooft er hinausgeht, damit er nicht stirbt.«
When Aaron enters the Holy Place [in the Sacred Tent] to do his work as a priest and when he leaves the Sacred Tent, the bells will ring [as he walks]. As a result, he will not die [because of disobeying my instructions].
36 »Weiter sollst du ein Stirnblatt aus feinem Gold anfertigen und auf ihm mittels Siegelstecherarbeit die Worte eingraben: ›Dem HERRN geweiht‹.
“[Tell them to] make a tiny ornament of pure gold, and tell a (skilled workman/gem-cutter) to engrave on it the words, ‘Dedicated to Yahweh.’
37 Du sollst es dann mit einer Schnur von blauem Purpur versehen, damit es am Kopfbund angebracht werden kann: an dessen Vorderseite soll es sich befinden,
They should fasten this ornament to the front of the turban by a blue cord.
38 und zwar soll es auf der Stirn Aarons liegen, damit Aaron die Verfehlungen in betreff der heiligen Gaben, welche die Israeliten weihen, auf sich nimmt, welche heiligen Gaben sie auch darbringen mögen. Es soll also beständig auf seiner Stirn liegen, um die Israeliten wohlgefällig vor dem HERRN zu machen. –
Aaron must always wear this on his forehead. In that way, Aaron himself will show [that he accepts] the guilt if the Israeli people offer [their sacrifices] to me in a way that is not correct, and I, Yahweh, will accept their sacrifices.
39 Sodann sollst du das Unterkleid aus Byssus würfelförmig gemustert weben und einen Kopfbund aus Byssus anfertigen, auch einen Gürtel in Buntwirkerarbeit herstellen.«
“[Tell them to] weave the long-sleeved tunic/gown from fine linen. Also, they must make from fine linen a turban and a sash/waistband, and embroider [designs on it].
40 »Ferner sollst du für die Söhne Aarons Unterkleider herstellen und ihnen Gürtel und hohe Mützen zur Ehre und zum Schmuck anfertigen.
“[Tell them to] make beautiful long-sleeved tunics/gowns, sashes, and caps for Aaron’s sons. Make ones that will be suitable for those who have this dignified work.
41 Dann sollst du deinen Bruder Aaron und ebenso seine Söhne damit bekleiden und sollst sie salben, sie in ihr Amt einsetzen und sie weihen, damit sie mir als Priester dienen.
Put these clothes on your [older] brother Aaron and on his sons. Then (set them apart/dedicate them) for this work by anointing them [with olive oil], in order that they may serve me [by being] priests.
42 Auch fertige ihnen leinene Unterbeinkleider an zur Verhüllung ihrer Blöße; diese sollen von den Hüften bis an die Schenkel reichen,
Also [tell them to] make linen undershorts for them. The undershorts should extend from their waists to their thighs, in order that no one can see their private parts.
43 und Aaron sowie seine Söhne sollen sie tragen, sooft sie in das Offenbarungszelt hineingehen oder an den Altar treten, um den Dienst im Heiligtum zu verrichten, damit sie keine Verschuldung auf sich laden und nicht sterben müssen. Diese Verordnung soll für ihn und seine Nachkommen nach ihm ewige Gültigkeit haben.«
Aaron and his sons must always wear those undershorts when they enter the Sacred Tent or when they come near to the altar to offer sacrifices in the Holy Place. If they do not obey this command, I will cause them to die. Aaron and all his male descendants must obey this rule forever.”
