5 Mose 8
1 »Das ganze Gesetz, das ich dir heute gebiete, sollt ihr gewissenhaft befolgen, damit ihr am Leben bleibt und zahlreich werdet und hineinkommt, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, das der HERR euren Vätern zugeschworen hat.
All the commandment which I am commanding thee to-day, shalt thou, observe, to do, —that ye may, live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land, which Yahweh sware unto your fathers.
2 Und du sollst des ganzen Weges gedenken, den der HERR, dein Gott, dich nun vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste hat wandern lassen, um dich demütig zu machen und dich zu erproben, damit er erkenne, wie es um dein Herz steht, ob du nämlich seine Gebote halten wirst oder nicht.
So then, thou shalt remember all the way in which Yahweh thy God caused thee to journey these forty years in the desert, —that he might humble thee to put thee to the proof to know what was in thy heart, —whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
3 So demütigte er dich denn und ließ dich Hunger leiden; dann aber speiste er dich wieder mit dem Manna, das weder du noch deine Väter gekannt hatten, um dich zu der Erkenntnis zu führen, daß der Mensch nicht vom Brot allein lebt, sondern daß der Mensch von allem lebt, was vom Mund des HERRN ausgeht.
So he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna which thou hadst not known, neither had thy fathers known, —that he might lead thee to consider that not on bread alone, shall the son of earth live, but on whatsoever cometh from the bidding of Yahweh, shall the son of earth live.
4 Die Kleider, die du anhattest, haben sich nicht abgenutzt, und die Füße sind dir während dieser vierzig Jahre nicht geschwollen.
Thy mantle, hath not fallen with age from off thee, and, thy foot, hath not become swollen, —these forty years.
5 So erkenne denn in deinem Herzen, daß der HERR, dein Gott, ebenso dein Erzieher ist, wie ein Vater seinen Sohn erzieht,
Thou must consider, then with thy heart, —that as a man chasteneth his son, Yahweh thy God, hath been chastening thee.
6 und befolge die Gebote des HERRN, deines Gottes, indem du auf seinen Wegen wandelst und ihn fürchtest.«
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments of Yahweh thy God, —to walk in his ways and to revere him.
7 »Denn der HERR, dein Gott, will dich in ein schönes Land bringen, in ein Land mit Wasserbächen, Quellen und Grundwassern, die in der Niederung und im Gebirge entspringen,
For, Yahweh thy God, is bringing thee into a good land; a land of ravines of water, of fountains and depths, coming forth in valley, and in mountain:
8 ein Land mit Weizen und Gerste, mit Weinstöcken, Feigenbäumen und Granaten, ein Land mit Ölbäumen und Honig,
a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig-tree, and pomegranate, —a land of olive oil, and honey:
9 ein Land, in welchem du dein Brot nicht kärglich zu essen brauchst, sondern an nichts Mangel leiden wirst, ein Land, das in seinem Gestein Eisen birgt und aus dessen Bergen du Kupfer heraushauen wirst.
a land wherein not in scarcity, shalt thou eat food, thou shalt lack nothing therein, —a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest hew copper.
10 Wenn du dann gegessen hast und satt geworden bist, so preise den HERRN, deinen Gott, für das schöne Land, das er dir gegeben hat.«
So then thou shalt eat and be satisfied, —and bless Yahweh thy God, for the good land which he hath given unto thee.
11 »Hüte dich ja, alsdann den HERRN, deinen Gott, zu vergessen, so daß du seine Verordnungen, sowohl seine Gebote als auch seine Satzungen, deren Befolgung ich dir heute zur Pflicht mache, nicht beobachtest.
Take heed to thyself, lest thou forget Yahweh thy God, —so as not to keep his commandments and his regulations and his statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day;
12 Laß nicht, während du dich satt ißt und dir schöne Häuser zum Bewohnen baust
lest thou eat, and be satisfied, —and goodly houses, thou build and inhabit;
13 und deine Rinder und dein Kleinvieh sich mehren und Silber und Gold sich dir mehren und dein gesamter Besitz zunimmt,
and thy herd and thy flock, increase, and silver and gold, increase unto thee, —and all that thou hast, increase;
14 dein Herz sich überheben und vergiß nicht den HERRN, deinen Gott, der dich aus dem Lande Ägypten, aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, herausgeführt,
and so thy heart be lifted up, —and thou forget Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt out of the house of servants;
15 der dich durch die große und furchtbare Wüste mit ihren feurigen Schlangen und Skorpionen geleitet hat, durch wasserlose, dürre Gegenden, und der dir Wasser aus dem kieselharten Felsen hat sprudeln lassen;
who caused thee to journey through the great and terrible desert, of fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty wastes where was no water, —who brought forth for thee water out of the flinty rock;
16 der dich mit Manna, das deine Väter nicht gekannt hatten, in der Wüste gespeist hat, um dich demütig zu machen und auf die Probe zu stellen, damit er dir zuletzt Gutes erweisen könnte.
who fed thee with manna in the desert, which thy fathers had not known, —that he might humble thee, and that he might put thee to the proof, to do thee good in thy hereafter,
17 Denke dann nicht etwa bei dir selbst: ›Meine Kraft und meine starken Arme haben mir diesen Wohlstand verschafft!‹
and lest thou shouldest say in thy heart, —Mine own strength and the might of mine own hand, have gotten me this wealth.
18 Denke vielmehr daran, daß der HERR, dein Gott, es ist, der dir die Kraft verliehen hat, solchen Wohlstand zu erwerben, weil er seinen Bund aufrechthalten will, den er deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat [wie es an diesem Tage offenbar ist].
But thou shalt remember Yahweh thy God, that it was, he, who had been giving thee strength to get wealth, —that so he might establish his covenant which he sware to thy fathers (as at this day).
19 Wenn du aber trotzdem den HERRN, deinen Gott, vergißt und anderen Göttern nachgehst und ihnen dienst und sie anbetest, so bezeuge ich euch heute feierlich, daß ihr unfehlbar zugrunde gehen werdet!
But it shall be if thou forget, Yahweh thy God, and go after ether gods, and serve them, and bow thyself down to them, I testify against you to-day, that ye shall perish:
20 Wie die Völkerschaften, die der HERR vor euch vernichtet, so werdet auch ihr alsdann zugrunde gehen zur Strafe dafür, daß ihr nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN, eures Gottes, gehört habt.«
like the nations which, Yahweh, is causing to perish from before you, so, shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh your God.
