5 Mose 7

1 »Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land gebracht hat, in das du jetzt ziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, und viele Völkerschaften, die Hethiter, Girgasiter, Amoriter, Kanaanäer, Pherissiter, Hewiter und Jebusiter, sieben Völkerschaften, die an Zahl und Stärke dir überlegen sind, vor dir her vertrieben hat,

When Yahweh thy God shall bring thee into the land which thou art going in to possess, and shall clear away many nations from before thee—the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites, and the Canaanites and the Perizzites, and the Hivites and the Jebusites—seven nations greater in number and stronger than thou;

2 und wenn der HERR, dein Gott, sie in deine Gewalt gegeben hat und du sie besiegt hast, so sollst du den Bann schonungslos an ihnen vollstrecken: du darfst kein Abkommen mit ihnen treffen und keine Gnade gegen sie üben.

and Yahweh thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them, thou shalt devote them to destruction, thou shalt not solemnise with them a covenant neither shalt thou shew them favour;

3 Du darfst dich auch nicht mit ihnen verschwägern, weder deine Töchter an ihre Söhne verheiraten noch ihre Töchter für deine Söhne zu Frauen nehmen;

neither shalt thou intermarry with them, —thy daughter, shalt thou not give unto his son, nor his daughter, shalt thou take for thy son;

4 denn sie würden deine Söhne von mir abwendig machen, so daß sie anderen Göttern dienen, und der Zorn des HERRN würde gegen euch entbrennen und euch schnell vertilgen.

for he will turn aside thy son from following me, and they will serve other gods, —so shall the anger of Yahweh kindle upon you, and he will destroy thee, speedily.

5 Vielmehr sollt ihr so mit ihnen verfahren: ihre Altäre sollt ihr niederreißen, ihre Malsteine zertrümmern, ihre Götzenbäume umhauen und ihre geschnitzten Götterbilder im Feuer verbrennen.

Verily, thus, shall ye do unto them: Their altars, shall ye tear down, And their pillars, shall ye break in pieces, —And their sacred stems, shall ye hew down, And their carved images, shall ye burn up in the fire.

6 Denn du bist ein dem HERRN, deinem Gott, geheiligtes Volk: dich hat der HERR, dein Gott, aus allen Völkern, die auf dem Erdboden sind, zu seinem Eigentumsvolk erwählt.

For a holy people, art thou unto Yahweh thy God: of thee, hath Yahweh thy God, made choice, that thou shouldest become his people as a treasure, above all the peoples that are on the face of the ground:

7 Nicht deshalb, weil ihr zahlreicher wärt als alle anderen Völker, hat der HERR sich euch zugewandt und euch erwählt – ihr seid ja das kleinste unter allen Völkern –;

not because ye were more in number than any of the peoples, did Yahweh become attached to you and make choice of you, —for, ye, were fewer than any of the peoples;

8 nein, weil der HERR Liebe zu euch hegte und weil er den Eid halten wollte, den er euren Vätern zugeschworen hatte, deshalb hat der HERR euch mit starker Hand weggeführt und euch aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, aus der Gewalt des Pharaos, des Königs von Ägypten, erlöst.

but because Yahweh loved you and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, did Yahweh bring you forth with a firm hand, —and redeem thee out of the house of servants, out of the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

9 So erkenne denn, daß der HERR, dein Gott, der (wahre) Gott ist, der treue Gott, der den Bund und die Gnade bis ins tausendste Glied denen bewahrt, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten,

So then, thou must know that, Yahweh thy God, he, is God, —the faithful GOD, keeping his covenant and his lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations

10 aber denen, die ihn hassen, mit Vernichtung ihrer eigenen Person vergilt und seinen Widersachern keinen Aufschub gewährt, sondern ihnen an ihrer eigenen Person vergilt.

but requiting them who hate him unto his face to destroy them, —he will not be slack towards him that hateth him, unto his face, will he requite him.

11 So halte denn das Gesetz, sowohl die Satzungen als auch die Verordnungen, deren Beobachtung ich dir heute gebiete.«

So shalt thou keep the commandment and the statutes and the regulations, which I am commanding thee to-day, to do them.

12 »Wenn du nun diesen Verordnungen gehorchst und sie in deinem ganzen Tun beobachtest, so wird der HERR, dein Gott, dir dafür den Bund und die Gnade bewahren, die er deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat,

Then shall it come to pass if ye will hearken unto these regulations, and keep and do them, then will Yahweh thy God keep with thee the covenant and the lovingkindness which he sware unto thy fathers;

13 und wird dich lieben und segnen und dich zahlreich werden lassen, dir Kindersegen bescheren und deine Feldfrüchte, dein Getreide, deinen Wein und dein Öl, die Jungen deiner Rinder und den Nachwuchs deines Kleinviehs in dem Lande segnen, das du, wie er deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat, besitzen sollst.

and will love thee, and bless thee and multiply thee, —and bless the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground thy corn and thy new wine and thine oil the young of thy kine and the ewes of thy flock, upon the soil which he swart unto thy fathers to give unto thee.

14 Gesegnet wirst du vor allen Völkern sein: kein Mann und kein Weib unter dir soll unfruchtbar sein und ebenso auch kein Stück von deinem Vieh.

Blessed shalt thou be beyond all the peoples, —there shall not be in thee a barren male or female, nor among thy cattle;

15 Der HERR wird auch alle Krankheiten von dir fernhalten und keine von den bösen Seuchen Ägyptens, die du kennst, über dich kommen lassen, sondern alle deine Feinde damit heimsuchen.

and Yahweh, will turn away, from thee, all disease, —and as for all the sore sicknesses of Egypt which thou knowest, he will not lay them upon thee, but will put them upon all who hate thee;

16 Du sollst aber alle Völker vernichten, die der HERR, dein Gott, in deine Gewalt gibt: dein Auge soll sie nicht mitleidig ansehen, und du sollst ihren Göttern nicht dienen, denn das würde ein Fallstrick für dich sein.

and thou shalt devour all the peoples whom, Yahweh thy God, is delivering up unto thee, thine eye shall not look with pity upon them, neither shalt thou serve their gods, for a snare, would it be unto thee.

17 Wenn du aber bei dir denken solltest: ›Diese Völkerschaften sind mir zu stark, wie sollte ich sie vertreiben können?‹ –:

Although thou mightest say in thy heart: More in number, are these nations than I, —how can, I dispossess them?

18 fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Denke vielmehr an das zurück, was der HERR, dein Gott, am Pharao und an allen Ägyptern getan hat,

thou must not be afraid of them, —thou must, remember, what Yahweh thy God did, unto Pharaoh and unto all Egypt:

19 an die großen Machterweise, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast, an die Zeichen und Wunder, an die starke Hand und den hocherhobenen Arm, mit dem der HERR, dein Gott, dich herausgeführt hat: ebenso wird der HERR, dein Gott, mit allen Völkern verfahren, vor denen du dich jetzt fürchtest.

the great provings which thine own eyes saw, and the signs and the wonders and the firm hand and the stretched-out arm, wherewith Yahweh thy God brought thee forth, —so, will Yahweh thy God do unto all the peoples, before whom thou art afraid.

20 Auch die Hornissen wird der HERR, dein Gott, gegen sie loslassen, bis die Übriggebliebenen und die sich vor dir Versteckenden umgekommen sind.

Moreover also, the hornet, will Yahweh thy God send among them, —until they are destroyed who are left remaining, and who are hiding themselves from thy face.

21 Habe also keine Angst vor ihnen! Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein großer und furchtbarer Gott.

Thou shalt not be affrighted at their presence, —for Yahweh thy God in thy midst is a Go great and to be revered.

22 Doch der HERR, dein Gott, wird diese Völker nur nach und nach vor dir vertreiben: du darfst sie nicht schnell vernichten, sonst würden die wilden Tiere zu deinem Schaden überhandnehmen.

So will Yahweh thy God, clear away these nations from before thee little by little, —thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the wild beast of the field should multiply ever thee.

23 Jedoch wird der HERR, dein Gott, sie dir preisgeben und sie in große Bestürzung versetzen, bis sie ausgerottet sind;

But Yahweh thy God will deliver them up before thee, —and discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they are destroyed;

24 und er wird ihre Könige in deine Gewalt geben, und du wirst ihre Namen unter dem Himmel austilgen: niemand soll vor dir standhalten, bis du sie ausgerottet hast.

and will deliver their kings into thy hand and thou shalt destroy their name, from under the heavens, —not a man shall stand before thee, until thou hast destroyed them.

25 Ihre geschnitzten Götzenbilder sollt ihr im Feuer verbrennen: du sollst nach dem Silber und Gold, das sich an ihnen befindet, kein Verlangen tragen und es nicht für dich hinnehmen, damit du dadurch nicht ins Verderben gerätst, denn es ist ein Greuel für den HERRN, deinen Gott,

The carved images of their gods, shalt thou consume with fire, —thou shalt not covet the silver and gold upon them to take unto thee, lest thou be ensnared thereby; for the abomination of Yahweh thy God, it is;

26 und du sollst einen solchen Greuel nicht in dein Haus kommen lassen, um nicht gleich ihm dem Bann zu verfallen; du sollst es vielmehr mit Ekel verabscheuen und es durchaus für etwas Greuelhaftes halten, denn es ist dem Banne geweiht.«

and thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, and so become devoted to destruction, like it, thou shalt, abhor, it, and thou shalt, loathe it, because a thing devoted to destruction, it is.
