5 Mose 5
1 Da berief Mose alle Israeliten und sagte zu ihnen: »Vernimm, Israel, die Satzungen und Verordnungen, die ich euch heute laut vortrage: lernt sie und beobachtet sie genau!
Then Moses called all the Israelites together and told them: Listen, people of Israel to the rules and regulations that I'm giving you today. Learn them and make sure you follow them carefully.
2 Der HERR, unser Gott, hat am Horeb einen Bund mit uns geschlossen.
Remember that the Lord our God made an agreement with us at Horeb.
3 Nicht mit unsern Vätern hat der HERR diesen Bund geschlossen, sondern mit uns hier, die wir alle heute noch am Leben sind.
He didn't make this agreement with our fathers, but with us, all of those who are still alive today.
4 Von Angesicht zu Angesicht hat der HERR auf dem Berge aus dem Feuer heraus mit euch geredet,
The Lord talked with you person to person from the fire on the mountain.
5 während ich selbst damals zwischen dem HERRN und euch stand, um euch die Worte des HERRN zu verkündigen; denn ihr fürchtetet euch vor dem Feuer und waret nicht auf den Berg gestiegen. Die Worte aber lauteten so: «
This was the time when I stood between the Lord and you to tell you what the Lord said, because you were afraid of the fire and refused to go up the mountain. He told you,
6 »Ich bin der HERR, dein Gott, der dich aus dem Lande Ägypten, aus dem Diensthause, hinausgeführt hat.
“I am the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt, out of the prison-house of slavery.
7 Du sollst keine anderen Götter haben neben mir!
You must not have any other gods except me.
8 Du sollst dir kein Gottesbild anfertigen, irgendein Abbild von dem, was oben im Himmel oder unten auf der Erde oder im Wasser unterhalb der Erde ist!
You must not make for yourself any kind of idol, whether in the form of anything in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.
9 Du sollst dich vor ihnen nicht niederwerfen und ihnen nicht dienen; denn ich, der HERR, dein Gott, bin ein eifriger Gott, der die Verschuldung der Väter heimsucht an den Kindern, ja an den Enkeln und Urenkeln derer, die mich hassen,
You must not bow down before them or worship them; for I am the Lord your God and I am passionately exclusive. I lay the consequences of the sin of those who hate me on their sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons;
10 der aber Gnade erweist an Tausenden von Nachkommen derer, die mich lieben und meine Gebote halten.
but I show trustworthy love to the thousands of generations who love me and keep my commandments.
11 Du sollst den Namen des HERRN, deines Gottes, nicht mißbrauchen!; denn der HERR wird den nicht ungestraft lassen, der seinen Namen mißbraucht.
You must not use the name of the Lord your God in a wrong way, for the Lord will not forgive anyone who uses his name in a wrong way.
12 Beobachte den Sabbattag, daß du ihn heilig hältst, wie der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten hat!
Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord as the Lord your God has commanded you to do.
13 Sechs Tage sollst du arbeiten und alle deine Geschäfte verrichten!
You have six days to work and earn your living,
14 Aber der siebte Tag ist ein Feiertag zu Ehren des HERRN, deines Gottes: da darfst du keinerlei Arbeit verrichten, weder du selbst, noch dein Sohn oder deine Tochter, weder dein Knecht noch deine Magd, weder dein Ochs, noch dein Esel, noch all dein Vieh, noch der Fremdling, der sich bei dir in deinen Ortschaften aufhält, damit dein Knecht und deine Magd ausruhen können wie du selbst.
but the seventh day is the Sabbath to honor the Lord your God. On this day you must not do any work—not you, not your son or daughter, not your male slave or female slave or your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, and not the foreigner who is staying with you, so that your male slave and females slave can have the same rest as you.
15 Denke daran, daß du selbst ein Knecht gewesen bist im Lande Ägypten und daß der HERR, dein Gott, dich von dort mit starker Hand und hocherhobenem Arm weggeführt hat; darum hat der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten, den Sabbattag zu feiern.
Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, and that the Lord your God led you out from there with his great power and incredible strength. This is why the Lord your God has ordered you to keep the Sabbath day.
16 Ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter, wie der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten hat, damit du lange lebst und damit es dir wohlergeht in dem Lande, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben wird!
Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you to do, so that you may live a long time and do well in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
17 Du sollst nicht töten!
You must not kill people.
18 Du sollst nicht ehebrechen!
You must not commit adultery.
19 Du sollst nicht stehlen!
You must not steal.
20 Du sollst kein falsches Zeugnis ablegen gegen deinen Nächsten!
You must not give false evidence against others.
21 Du sollst nicht begehren deines Nächsten Weib und sollst dich nicht nach dem Hause deines Nächsten gelüsten lassen, nach seinem Felde, nach seinem Knecht und seiner Magd, nach seinem Ochsen und seinem Esel und nach allem, was deinem Nächsten gehört!«
You must not desire to have anyone else's wife. You must not desire to have their house or field, or their male slave or female slave, or their ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to them.”
22 »Diese Worte hat der HERR auf dem Berge zu eurer ganzen Versammlung mit lauter Stimme mitten aus dem Feuer und dem dunklen Gewölk heraus gesprochen und nichts weiter hinzugefügt; er hat sie dann auf zwei Steintafeln geschrieben und diese mir übergeben.
In a loud voice the Lord gave these commandments to all of you, speaking from the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness that covered the mountain. He didn't add anything else. He wrote them down on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 Als ihr aber die Stimme mitten aus dem Dunkel heraus vernahmt, während der Berg in Feuerglut brannte, da tratet ihr zu mir heran, alle eure Stammeshäupter und eure Ältesten,
When you heard the voice that came from the darkness while the mountain was on fire, all your tribal leaders and elders came to me,
24 und sagtet: ›Der HERR, unser Gott, hat uns nunmehr seine Herrlichkeit und Größe sehen lassen, und wir haben seine Stimme aus dem Feuer heraus gehört: heute haben wir erlebt, daß, wenn der HERR mit Menschen redet, diese doch am Leben bleiben.
and said, “Listen, the Lord our God has revealed glory and majesty to us, and we have heard his voice that came from the fire. Today we have seen that human beings can don't die even when God speaks with them.
25 Aber warum sollen wir uns jetzt noch in Todesgefahr begeben? Denn dieses gewaltige Feuer wird uns verzehren! Wenn wir selbst die Stimme des HERRN, unseres Gottes, noch weiter hören, so werden wir sterben.
But we could still die, couldn't we? This enormous fire is going to burn us up, and we'll die if the Lord our God continues to speak to us.
26 Denn wo gäbe es in der ganzen Menschheit jemanden, der wie wir die Stimme des lebendigen Gottes aus dem Feuer heraus hätte reden hören und doch am Leben geblieben wäre?
Has anybody else ever heard the living God speak from the fire and survived, we have?
27 Tritt du hinzu und höre alles an, was der HERR, unser Gott, sagen wird; berichte du uns dann alles, was der HERR, unser Gott, dir sagen wird, so wollen wir es hören und befolgen.‹
You go and listen to everything the Lord our God tells you. Then you can repeat to us everything the Lord our God tells you. We promise to listen and obey.”
28 Als nun der HERR diese Worte vernahm, die ihr mit lauter Stimme an mich gerichtet hattet, sagte der HERR zu mir: ›Ich habe die Worte gehört, die dieses Volk mit lauter Stimme an dich gerichtet hat; sie haben recht in allem, was sie zu dir gesagt haben.
The Lord heard what you told me, and he said to me, “I've heard what these people told you. All that they've said is good.
29 Möchte doch dieser ihr Vorsatz ihnen verbleiben, daß sie mich allezeit fürchten und alle meine Gebote halten! Dann sollte es ihnen und ihren Kindern immerdar gut ergehen.
I only wish they really did respect me and always kept my commandments so that they and their children would do well for all time.
30 Gehe hin und sage ihnen: Kehrt zu euren Zelten zurück!
Go and tell them: ‘You need to return to your tents.’
31 Du aber bleibe hier bei mir stehen, damit ich dir alle Verordnungen und die Satzungen und Gebote mitteile, die du sie lehren sollst, damit sie danach tun in dem Lande, das ich ihnen zum Besitz geben will.‹
But you are to stay here with me so that I can give you all the commandments and rules and regulations you are to teach them to follow in the country that I am giving them to take over and own.”
32 So achtet denn darauf, daß ihr so tut, wie der HERR, euer Gott, euch geboten hat: weicht weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken davon ab!
So make sure you do what the Lord your God has ordered you to do—don't go astray in any direction.
33 Wandelt genau auf dem Wege, den der HERR, euer Gott, euch geboten hat, damit ihr das Leben behaltet und es euch wohlgeht und ihr lange in dem Lande wohnen bleibt, das ihr in Besitz nehmen sollt.«
Follow all the ways the Lord your God has shown you, so that you do well and live long lives in the country that you will occupy.
