2 Thessalonicher 1

1 Wir, Paulus, Silvanus und Timotheus, senden unsern Gruß der Gemeinde der Thessaloniker in Gott, unserm Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.

To the Thessalonian church in union with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, From Paul, Silas, and Timothy.

2 Gnade sei (mit) euch und Friede von Gott dem Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!

May God, the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and give you peace.

3 Wir sind Gott allezeit zur Danksagung für euch, liebe Brüder, verpflichtet; das ist recht und billig, weil euer Glaube überaus kräftig wächst und die brüderliche Liebe bei jedem einzelnen von euch allen zunimmt,

Friends, it is our duty always to thank God about you, as is but right, considering the wonderful growth of your faith, and because, without exception, your love for one another is continually increasing.

4 so daß wir selbst uns in den Gemeinden Gottes euer rühmen wegen eurer Standhaftigkeit und Glaubenstreue in allen euren Verfolgungen und den Leiden, die ihr zu erdulden habt.

So much is this the case that we ourselves speak with pride, before the churches of God, of the patience and faith which you have shown, in spite of all the persecutions and troubles that you are enduring.

5 Darin liegt ein Hinweis auf das gerechte Gericht Gottes, daß ihr nämlich des Reiches Gottes würdig erachtet werdet, um dessen willen ihr eben zu leiden habt.

These persecutions will vindicate the justice of God’s judgment, and will result in your being reckoned worthy of God’s kingdom, for the sake of which you are now suffering;

6 Denn das entspricht doch sicherlich der Gerechtigkeit Gottes, euren Bedrängern mit Drangsal zu vergelten,

since God deems it just to inflict suffering on those who are now inflicting suffering on you,

7 euch aber, den Bedrängten, Erquickung in Gemeinschaft mit uns zuteil werden zu lassen, wenn der Herr Jesus sich vom Himmel her mit den Engeln seiner Macht

and to give relief to you who are suffering, as well as to us, at the appearing of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire.

8 in loderndem Feuer offenbart, um Vergeltung an denen zu üben, die Gott nicht (aner)kennen, und an denen, die der Heilsbotschaft unsers Herrn Jesus kein Gehör schenken.

Then he will inflict punishment on those who refuse to know God, and on those who turn a deaf ear to the good news of Jesus, our Lord.

9 Diese werden als Strafe ewiges Verderben erleiden fern vom Angesicht des Herrn und fern von der Herrlichkeit seiner Kraft, (aiōnios g166)

They will pay the penalty of unutterable ruin – banished from the presence of the Lord and from the glorious manifestation of his might, (aiōnios g166)

10 wenn er kommen wird, um unter seinen Heiligen verherrlicht zu werden und Bewunderung zu finden bei allen, die gläubig geworden sind – denn bei euch hat unser Zeugnis Glauben gefunden –, an jenem Tage.

when he comes to be honoured in his people, and to be revered in all who have learned to believe in him (for you also believed our testimony) – as he will be on that day.

11 Im Hinblick hierauf beten wir auch allezeit für euch, unser Gott möge euch der (endgültigen) Berufung für würdig erachten und alle Freude am Guten und die Glaubensarbeit (in euch) kraftvoll zur Vollendung bringen,

With this in view, our constant prayer for you is that our God may count you worthy of the call that you have received, and by his power make perfect your delight in all goodness and the efforts that have resulted from your faith.

12 damit der Name unsers Herrn Jesus in euch verherrlicht werde und ihr in ihm, wie es der Gnade unsers Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus entspricht.

Then, in the loving kindness of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ, will the name of Jesus, our Lord, be honoured in you, and you in him.
