2 Samuel 20

1 Nun befand sich dort zufällig ein nichtswürdiger Mensch namens Seba, der Sohn Bichris, ein Benjaminit; der stieß in die Posaune und rief aus: »Wir haben keinen Anteil an David und nichts zu schaffen mit dem Sohne Isais! Ein jeder begebe sich in seinen Wohnort, ihr Israeliten!«

And there he was met a man of worthlessness and name his [was] Sheba [the] son of Bicri a man a Jaminite and he gave a blast on the trumpet and he said not [belongs] to us a portion in David and not an inheritance [belongs] to us in [the] son of Jesse everyone to tents his O Israel.

2 Da fielen die Israeliten insgesamt von David ab und schlossen sich an Seba, den Sohn Bichris, an; die Judäer aber blieben ihrem König treu (und geleiteten ihn) vom Jordan bis nach Jerusalem.

And he went up every man of Israel from after David after Sheba [the] son of Bicri and [the] man of Judah they clung to king their from the Jordan and to Jerusalem.

3 Als nun David in seinen Palast nach Jerusalem zurückgekommen war, ließ er die zehn Nebenweiber, die er zur Hut des Palastes zurückgelassen hatte, in ein besonderes Haus bringen und sorgte dort für ihren Unterhalt, hatte aber keinen Verkehr mehr mit ihnen; so lebten sie eingesperrt bis zu ihrem Todestag gleichsam als Witwen bei Lebzeiten (ihres Mannes).

And he came David to house his Jerusalem and he took the king [the] ten women - concubines whom he had left to keep the house and he put them a house of confinement and he sustained them and into them not he went and they were locked up until [the] day died they widowhood of living.

4 Darauf befahl der König dem Amasa: »Biete mir die Mannschaft von Juda binnen drei Tagen auf und sei du selbst dann hier zur Stelle!«

And he said the king to Amasa summon to me [the] man of Judah three days and you here stand.

5 Amasa machte sich nun daran, die Judäer aufzubieten; als er jedoch über die ihm genau bestimmte Zeit hinaus ausblieb,

And he went Amasa to summon Judah (and he was delayed *Q(K)*) from the appointed time which he had appointed for him.

6 sagte David zu Abisai: »Nun wird Seba, der Sohn Bichris, für uns noch gefährlicher werden als Absalom. Nimm du die Leute deines Herrn und verfolge ihn, damit er nicht etwa feste Städte für sich gewinnt und uns viel zu schaffen macht!«

And he said David to Abishai now he will be bad for us Sheba [the] son of Bicri more than Absalom you take [the] servants of master your and pursue after him lest he has found for himself cities fortified and he will tear out eye our.

7 Da zogen denn unter Abisais Führung Joab mit seinen Leuten sowie die (Leibwache der) Krethi und Plethi und alle ›Kriegshelden‹ ins Feld; sie zogen aus Jerusalem aus, um Seba, den Sohn Bichris, zu verfolgen.

And they went out after him [the] men of Joab and the Kerethite[s] and the Pelethite[s] and all the warriors and they went out from Jerusalem to pursue after Sheba [the] son of Bicri.

8 Als sie nun bei dem großen Stein in Gibeon waren, kam Amasa ihnen zu Gesicht. Joab aber war mit seinem Waffenrock bekleidet und hatte sich darüber ein Schwert umgegürtet, das ihm in seiner Scheide an die Hüfte gekoppelt war und das er, als er vorging, aus der Scheide herausfallen ließ.

They [were] near the stone great which [is] in Gibeon and Amasa he came before them and Joab [was] girded - robe his clothing his (and over it *Q(k)*) a belt of a sword [was] fastened on loins his in sheath its and he he went forward and it fell.

9 Darauf redete Joab den Amasa mit den Worten an: »Geht es dir gut, lieber Bruder?« Dabei faßte Joab mit der rechten Hand Amasa beim Bart, um ihn zu küssen.

And he said Joab to Amasa ¿ peace [are] you O brother my and it took hold [the] hand of [the] right of Joab on [the] beard of Amasa to kiss him.

10 Amasa hatte aber nicht auf das Schwert geachtet, das Joab in der (linken) Hand hatte; so stieß Joab es ihm in den Leib, so daß ihm die Eingeweide auf die Erde herausfielen und er starb, ohne daß er ihm noch einen zweiten Stoß zu versetzen brauchte. Während dann Joab und sein Bruder Abisai die Verfolgung Sebas, des Sohnes Bichris, fortsetzten,

And Amasa not he took heed to the sword - which [was] in [the] hand of Joab and he struck him with it into the belly and he poured out bowels his [the] ground towards and not he repeated to him and he died. And Joab and Abishai brother his he pursued after Sheba [the] son of Bicri.

11 mußte einer von den Leuten Joabs bei Amasa stehen bleiben und ausrufen: »Wer es mit Joab hält und wer für David ist, folge Joab nach!«

And a man he stood over him one of [the] young men of Joab and he said who? [is [the] one] who he delights in Joab and who? [is [the] one] who [belongs] to David after Joab.

12 Amasa aber hatte sich in seinem Blute gewälzt und lag mitten auf der Straße. Als nun der Mann sah, daß die Leute alle stehenblieben, schaffte er Amasa von der Straße weg aufs Feld und warf einen Mantel über ihn, weil er sah, daß alle, die an ihn herankamen, stehenblieben.

And Amasa [was] wallowing in blood in [the] middle of (the highway *LA(bh)*) and he saw the man that it stopped all the people and he brought round Amasa from the highway the field and he threw over him a garment when he saw all who came on him and he stopped.

13 Nachdem er ihn aber von der Straße weggeschafft hatte, zogen alle Leute vorüber hinter Joab her, um an der Verfolgung Sebas teilzunehmen.

When he had removed [him] from the highway he passed by every person after Joab to pursue after Sheba [the] son of Bicri.

14 Dieser hatte aber alle Stämme Israels bis nach Abel-Beth-Maacha durchzogen (freilich mit geringem Erfolg); nur eben alle Bichrileute waren hinter ihm hergekommen, ebenfalls dorthin.

And he passed in all [the] tribes of Israel Abel towards and Beth Maacah and all the Berites. (And they assembled *Q(K)*) and they went also after him.

15 Nun kamen jene heran und belagerten ihn in Abel-Beth-Maacha; sie führten gegen die Stadt einen Wall auf, der an die Außenmauer stieß; und alle Leute Joabs unterwühlten die Mauer, um sie zum Einsturz zu bringen.

And they came and they laid siege on him in Abel Beth Maacah and they poured out a mound against the city and it stood by the rampart and all the people which [was] with Joab [were] about to destroy to make fall the wall.

16 Da (trat) eine kluge Frau (auf die Vormauer und) rief aus der Stadt heraus: »Hört, hört! Fordert doch Joab auf, hierher zu kommen: ich möchte mit ihm reden!«

And she called out a woman wise from the city listen listen say please to Joab draw near to here so let me speak to you.

17 Als er nun nahe an sie herangekommen war, fragte die Frau: »Bist du Joab?« Er antwortete ihr: »Ja, ich bin’s.« Da sagte sie zu ihm: »Höre, was deine Magd dir zu sagen hat!« Er antwortete: »Ich höre!«

And he drew near to her and she said the woman ¿ [are] you Joab and he said I [am] and she said to him listen to [the] words of maidservant your and he said [am] listening I.

18 Da fuhr sie fort: »Früher pflegte der Volksmund zu sagen: ›Fragt nur in Abel an!‹, und so kam man glücklich ans Ziel.

And she said saying surely they spoke at the former [time] saying certainly they will ask at Abel and thus they ceased.

19 Wir gehören zu den friedlichsten, getreusten Leuten in Israel, und du suchst eine Stadt, eine Muttergemeinde in Israel zu zerstören? Warum willst du das Eigentum des HERRN zugrunde richten?«

I [am] [the] peaceful [ones] of [the] faithful [ones] of Israel you [are] seeking to kill a city and a mother in Israel why? will you swallow up [the] inheritance of Yahweh.

20 Da antwortete Joab: »Ganz fern liegt es mir, daß ich zerstören und daß ich zugrunde richten will.

And he answered Joab and he said far be it far be it to me if I will swallow up and if I will destroy.

21 Die Sache liegt nicht so, sondern ein Mann vom Gebirge Ephraim namens Seba, der Sohn Bichris, hat sich gegen den König, gegen David, empört; liefert ihn aus, ihn allein, so ziehe ich von der Stadt ab!« Da erwiderte die Frau dem Joab: »Sein Kopf soll dir alsbald über die Mauer zugeworfen werden!«

[is] not So the matter for a man from [the] hill country of Ephraim [who is] Sheba [the] son of Bicri name his he has lifted up hand his against the king against David give him to only him so let me go from on the city and she said the woman to Joab here! head his [is] about to be thrown to you behind the wall.

22 Hierauf redete die Frau (in der Stadt) mit ihrer Klugheit auf die ganze Einwohnerschaft so lange ein, bis sie Seba, dem Sohne Bichris, den Kopf abhieben und ihn dem Joab zuwarfen. Da ließ Joab mit der Posaune zum Abzug blasen, und seine Leute zogen von der Stadt ab und zerstreuten sich, ein jeder in seinen Wohnort; Joab aber kehrte nach Jerusalem zum König zurück.

And she went the woman to all the people with wisdom her and they cut off [the] head of Sheba [the] son of Bicri and they threw [it] to Joab and he gave a blast on the trumpet and they were scattered from on the city each to tents his and Joab he returned Jerusalem to the king.

23 Joab war oberster Heerführer in Israel; Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, war Befehlshaber (der Leibwache) der Krethi und Plethi;

And Joab [was] to all the army of Israel and Benaiah [the] son of Jehoiada [was] over (the Kerethite[s] *Q(K)*) and over the Pelethite[s].

24 Adoram war Oberaufseher über die Fronarbeiten; Josaphat, der Sohn Ahiluds, war Kanzler;

And Adoram [was] over the forced labor and Jehoshaphat [the] son of Ahilud [was] the recorder.

25 Seja war Staatsschreiber; Zadok und Abjathar waren Priester,

(And Sheva *Q(K)*) [was] secretary and Zadok and Abiathar [were] priests.

26 und Ira, der Jairit, war ebenfalls ein Priester Davids.

And also Ira the Jairite he was a priest of David.
