2 Samuel 10
1 Danach begab es sich, daß (Nahas), der König der Ammoniter, starb und sein Sohn Hanun ihm in der Regierung nachfolgte.
And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of 'Ammon died, and Chanun his son reigned in his stead.
2 Da dachte David: »Ich will mich freundlich gegen Hanun, den Sohn des Nahas, beweisen, wie sein Vater sich mir gegenüber freundlich gezeigt hat.« So schickte denn David hin, um ihm durch seine Diener sein Beileid zum Tode seines Vaters ausdrücken zu lassen. Als aber die Diener Davids im Lande der Ammoniter angekommen waren,
Then said David, I will show kindness unto Chanun the son of Nachash, as his father showed me kindness. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came unto the land of the children of 'Ammon.
3 sagten die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu Hanun, ihrem Herrn: »Glaubst du etwa, daß David Beileidsgesandte deshalb geschickt hat, um deinem Vater eine Ehre zu erweisen? Nein, offenbar hat David seine Diener nur deshalb zu dir geschickt, um die Stadt zu erforschen und auszukundschaften und sie dann zu zerstören.«
And the princes of the children of 'Ammon said unto Chanun their Lord, Doth David honor thy father in thy eyes, that he hath sent comforters unto thee! hath David not sent his servants unto thee, in order to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4 Da ließ Hanun die Gesandten Davids festnehmen, ließ ihnen den Bart halb abscheren und die Röcke halb abschneiden bis unter den Gürtel und entließ sie dann.
Chanun thereupon took David's servants, and shaved off the one-half of their beard, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Als man dies dem David meldete, schickte er ihnen Boten entgegen – denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft –; und der König ließ ihnen sagen: »Bleibt in Jericho, bis euch der Bart wieder gewachsen ist: dann kehrt heim!«
When they told it unto David, he sent [persons] to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed; and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beard be grown, and then return.
6 Als nun die Ammoniter sahen, daß sie David tödlich beleidigt hatten, sandten sie hin und nahmen die Syrer von Beth-Rehob und die Syrer von Zoba in Sold, 20000 Mann Fußvolk, ebenso den König von Maacha mit 1000 Mann und 12000 Mann von Istob.
And when the children of 'Ammon saw that they were become in bad odor with David, the children of 'Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rechob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand men on foot, and the king of Ma'achah with a thousand men, and of the people of Tob twelve thousand men.
7 Sobald David Kunde davon erhielt, ließ er Joab mit dem ganzen Heer, auch den Helden, ausrücken.
And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army, [and] the mighty men.
8 Die Ammoniter zogen dann (aus der Stadt) hinaus und stellten sich vor dem Stadttor in Schlachtordnung auf, während die Syrer von Zoba und Rehob und die Mannschaften von Istob und Maacha für sich im freien Felde standen.
And the children of 'Ammon came out, and put themselves in battle-array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rechob, and the people of Tob and Ma'achah, were by themselves in the field.
9 Als nun Joab sah, daß ihm sowohl von vorn als auch im Rücken ein Angriff drohe, nahm er aus allen auserlesenen israelitischen Kriegern eine Auswahl vor und stellte sich mit ihnen den Syrern gegenüber auf;
When now Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he selected from all the chosen men of Israel, and arrayed himself against the Syrians:
10 den Rest des Heeres aber überwies er seinem Bruder Abisai, und dieser mußte sich mit ihnen den Ammonitern gegenüber aufstellen.
And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, who arrayed himself against the children of 'Ammon.
11 Dann sagte er: »Wenn die Syrer mir überlegen sind, so kommst du mir zu Hilfe; und wenn die Ammoniter dir überlegen sind, so komme ich dir zu Hilfe.
And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then shalt thou bring me help; but if the children of 'Ammon be too strong for thee, then will I go to help thee.
12 Nur Mut! Wir wollen tapfer kämpfen für unser Volk und für die Städte unsers Gottes! Der HERR aber möge tun, was ihm wohlgefällt!«
Be strong, and let us strengthen ourselves in behalf of our people, and in behalf of the cities of our God: and may the Lord do that which seemeth good in his eyes.
13 Darauf rückte Joab mit der Mannschaft, die unter seinem Befehl stand, zum Angriff gegen die Syrer vor, und diese wandten sich vor ihm zur Flucht;
And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians; and they fled from before him.
14 und als die Ammoniter die Flucht der Syrer gewahrten, flohen auch sie vor Abisai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Darauf ließ Joab vom Kampf gegen die Ammoniter ab und kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.
And when the children of 'Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then did they also fly before Abishai, and entered into the city. Joab then returned from the children of 'Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15 Als sich nun die Syrer von den Israeliten geschlagen sahen, sammelten sie sich wieder in voller Zahl;
And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves altogether.
16 und Hadad-Eser sandte hin und ließ die Syrer von jenseits des Euphrats ins Feld rücken, und diese kamen unter Führung Sobachs, des Heerführers Hadad-Esers, nach Helam.
And Hadar'ezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river, and they came to Chelam; and Shobach the captain of the army of Hadar'ezer went before them.
17 Auf die Kunde hiervon bot David ganz Israel zum Kriege auf, überschritt den Jordan und gelangte nach Helam, wo die Syrer sich ihm entgegenstellten und ihm eine Schlacht lieferten.
And when it was told to David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Chelam. And the Syrians set themselves in battle-array against David, and fought with him.
18 Aber die Syrer wurden von den Israeliten in die Flucht geschlagen, und David erschlug den Syrern die Bemannung von 700 Kriegswagen und 40000 Mann Fußvolk; auch ihren Heerführer Sobach verwundete er, so daß er dort starb.
And the Syrians fled from before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians [the men] of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen; and Shobach also the captain of their army he smote, and he died there.
19 Als nun sämtliche Könige, die dem Hadad-Eser Heerfolge leisteten, sich von den Israeliten besiegt sahen, schlossen sie Frieden mit den Israeliten und unterwarfen sich ihnen. Infolgedessen scheuten sich die Syrer, den Ammonitern fernerhin noch Hilfe zu leisten.
And when all the kings, the vassals to Hadar'ezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them: and the Syrians feared to help the children of 'Ammon any more.
