1 Als dann der HERR den Elia im Wettersturm zum Himmel auffahren lassen wollte, ging Elia mit Elisa aus Gilgal weg.
And it came to pass, when Yahweh was about to take up Elijah in a storm into the heavens, that Elijah departed, with Elisha, from Gilgal.
2 Da sagte Elia zu Elisa: »Bleibe doch hier! Denn der HERR hat mich nach Bethel gesandt.« Doch Elisa erwiderte: »So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du selbst lebst, ich verlasse dich nicht!« Als sie nun nach Bethel hinabwanderten,
Then said Elijah unto Elisha—Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 kamen die Prophetenjünger, die in Bethel wohnten, zu Elisa hinaus und sagten zu ihm: »Weißt du wohl, daß Gott der HERR heute deinen Herrn über deinem Haupt entführen wird?« Er antwortete: »Auch ich weiß es: schweigt still!«
And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came forth unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord, from thy head? And he said—I also, know, be silent.
4 Da sagte Elia zu ihm: »Elisa, bleibe doch hier! Denn der HERR hat mich nach Jericho gesandt.« Doch er entgegnete: »So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du selbst lebst, ich verlasse dich nicht!« Als sie nun nach Jericho gekommen waren,
Then Elijah said to him—Elisha, I pray thee, tarry here, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to Jericho. And he said—By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 traten die Prophetenjünger, die in Jericho wohnten, an Elisa heran und sagten zu ihm: »Weißt du wohl, daß Gott der HERR heute deinen Herrn über deinem Haupt entführen wird?« Er antwortete: »Auch ich weiß es: schweigt still!«
Then drew near the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord from thy head? And he said—I also, know; be silent.
6 Darauf sagte Elia zu ihm: »Bleibe doch hier! Denn der HERR hat mich an den Jordan gesandt.« Doch er entgegnete: »So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du selbst lebst, ich verlasse dich nicht!« So gingen sie denn beide miteinander weiter.
And Elijah said to him—Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to the Jordan. And he said—By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they two, went on.
7 Auch fünfzig Mann von den Prophetenjüngern gingen mit, blieben aber abseits in einiger Entfernung stehen, während die beiden an den Jordan traten.
But, fifty men of the sons of the prophets, came, and stood over against them, afar off, —and, they two, stood by the Jordan.
8 Da nahm Elia seinen Mantel, wickelte ihn zusammen und schlug damit auf das Wasser; da zerteilte es sich nach beiden Seiten hin, so daß sie beide trockenen Fußes hindurchgehen konnten.
Then Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided, hither and thither, —so that they two, passed over, on dry ground.
9 Als sie nun drüben angekommen waren, sagte Elia zu Elisa: »Erbitte dir etwas, was ich dir tun soll, ehe ich von dir hinweggenommen werde.« Elisa antwortete: »Möchte mir doch ein doppelter Anteil von deinem Geist zufallen!«
And it came to pass, as they went over, that, Elijah, said unto Elisha—Ask, what I shall do for thee, ere yet I be taken from thee. And Elisha said, Let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit upon me.
10 Elia entgegnete: »Du hast eine schwer zu erfüllende Bitte ausgesprochen. Wenn du mit ansehen darfst, wie ich von dir entrückt werde, so wird deine Bitte erfüllt werden, sonst nicht!«
And he said—Thou hast asked a hard thing, —if thou see me when taken from thee, thou shall have it, so, but, if not, thou shalt not have it.
11 Während sie dann im Gespräch miteinander immer weiter gingen, erschien plötzlich ein feuriger Wagen mit feurigen Rossen und trennte beide voneinander; und Elia fuhr im Wettersturm zum Himmel empor.
And it came to pass, as they were going on and on and talking, that lo! there was a chariot of fire, with horses of fire, which parted, those two, asunder, —and Elijah went up in a storm, into the heavens.
12 Als Elisa das sah, rief er laut: »Mein Vater, mein Vater! Du Wagen Israels und seine Reiter!« Als er ihn dann nicht mehr sah, faßte er seine Kleider und zerriß sie in zwei Stücke.
And, as soon as Elisha saw it, he, began crying out—My father! my father! The chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof! But, when he could see him no longer, he took hold of his clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 Hierauf hob er den Mantel auf, der dem Elia entfallen war, kehrte um und trat an das Ufer des Jordans;
Then took he up the mantle of Elijah, which had fallen from him, —and returned and stood, on the brink of the Jordan;
14 hier nahm er den Mantel Elias, der ihm entfallen war, schlug damit auf das Wasser und rief aus: »Wo ist der HERR, der Gott Elias?« Als auch er so auf das Wasser geschlagen hatte, zerteilte es sich nach beiden Seiten hin, so daß Elisa hindurchgehen konnte.
and took the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah? And, when, he also, smote the waters, they were divided, hither and thither, and Elisha, passed over.
15 Als die Prophetenjünger, die aus Jericho waren, das von drüben her sahen, riefen sie aus: »Der Geist Elias ruht auf Elisa!« Sie gingen ihm dann entgegen, verneigten sich vor ihm bis zur Erde
And, when the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, over against him, saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah, resteth, on Elisha. So they came to meet him, and bowed themselves down to him, to the ground.
16 und sagten zu ihm: »Siehe, es befinden sich hier bei deinen Knechten fünfzig rüstige Männer; die sollen hingehen und deinen Herrn suchen, ob ihn nicht etwa der Geist des HERRN entführt und ihn auf irgendeinen Berg oder in irgendein Tal entrückt hat.«
Then said they unto him—Lo! we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour—let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Yahweh have borne him away, and cast him on one of the mountains, or into one of the valleys. And he said—Ye shall not send.
17 Aber er erwiderte: »Ihr braucht sie nicht auszuschicken!« Als sie jedoch bis aufs äußerste in ihn drangen, erklärte er schließlich: »Nun, so laßt sie abgehen!« Da schickten sie die fünfzig Männer aus, die suchten drei Tage lang, fanden ihn aber nicht.
But, when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said—Send. So they sent fifty men, and made search three days, but found him not.
18 Als sie dann zu ihm zurückkehrten, während er noch in Jericho weilte, sagte er zu ihnen: »Habe ich euch nicht gesagt, ihr möchtet nicht hingehen?«
And, when they came back unto him, he, having tarried at Jericho, he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Do not go?
19 Die Einwohner der Stadt (Jericho) aber sagten zu Elisa: »In unserer Stadt ist gewiß gut wohnen, wie du, Herr, selbst siehst; aber das Wasser ist ungesund, und die Gegend verursacht Fehlgeburten.«
And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Lo! we pray thee, the situation of the city, is good, as, my lord, seeth, —but, the waters, are bad, and, the land, apt to miscarry.
20 Da antwortete er: »Bringt mir eine neue Schüssel und tut Salz hinein.« Als man sie ihm gebracht hatte,
And he said—Bring me a new bowl, and put therein, salt. So they brought it unto him;
21 ging er an die Wasserquelle vor die Stadt hinaus, warf das Salz hinein und sagte: »So hat der HERR gesprochen: ›Ich habe dieses Wasser gesund gemacht; es soll hinfort weder Tod noch Fehlgeburt daher kommen!‹«
and he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast therein, saith, —and said—Thus, saith Yahweh, I have healed these waters; there shall come from thence, no longer, death or aptness to miscarry.
22 Da wurde das Wasser gesund bis auf den heutigen Tag infolge des Wortes, das Elisa ausgesprochen hatte.
So the waters were healed, [as they remain] unto this day, —according to the word of Elisha which he spake.
23 Von dort ging er dann nach Bethel zurück; und als er so auf dem Wege hinaufging, kamen kleine Jungen aus dem Ort heraus, die ihn verspotteten, indem sie ihm zuriefen: »Komm herauf, Kahlkopf! Komm herauf, Kahlkopf!«
And he went up from thence, to Bethel, —and, as he was going up on the way, some lads, came forth, out of the city, and made mockery of him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head!
24 Da wandte er sich um, und als er sie sah, verwünschte er sie im Namen des HERRN. Da kamen zwei Bären aus dem Walde heraus und zerrissen zweiundvierzig von den Knaben.
And, when he turned round and saw them, he cursed them, in the name of Yahweh, —and there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tare, of them, forty-two youths.
25 Von dort begab er sich nach dem Berge Karmel und kehrte von da nach Samaria zurück.
And he went from thence, unto Mount Carmel, —and, from thence, he returned, to Samaria.
