1 Im zweiten Regierungsjahre des Joas, des Sohnes des Königs Joahas von Israel, wurde Amazja, der Sohn des Joas, König über Juda.

The second yeere of Ioash sonne of Iehoahaz King of Israel reigned Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah.

2 Im Alter von fünfundzwanzig Jahren kam er auf den Thron, und neunundzwanzig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Joaddan und stammte aus Jerusalem.

He was fiue and twentie yeere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned nine and twentie yeere in Ierusalem, and his mothers name was Iehoadan of Ierusalem.

3 Er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, doch nicht so wie sein Ahnherr David, sondern ganz, wie sein Vater Joas getan hatte;

And he did vprightly in the sight of the Lord, yet not like Dauid his father, but did according to all that Ioash his father had done.

4 jedoch der Höhendienst wurde nicht abgeschafft, sondern das Volk brachte immer noch Schlacht- und Rauchopfer auf den Höhen dar. –

Notwithstanding the hie places were not taken away: for as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense in the hie places.

5 Sobald er nun die Herrschaft fest in Händen hatte, ließ er von seinen Dienern diejenigen hinrichten, die den König, seinen Vater, ermordet hatten.

And when the kingdome was confirmed in his hand, he slewe his seruants which had killed the King his father.

6 Aber die Söhne der Mörder ließ er nicht hinrichten, sondern verfuhr so, wie im Gesetzbuch Moses geschrieben steht, wo der HERR ausdrücklich geboten hat: »Väter sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Söhne getötet werden, und Söhne sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Väter getötet werden, sondern ein jeder soll nur wegen seiner eigenen Sünde getötet werden.«

But the children of those that did slay him, he slewe not, according vnto that that is written in the booke of the Lawe of Moses, wherein the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers: but euery man shall be put to death for his owne sinne.

7 Er war es auch, der die Edomiter im Salztal schlug, zehntausend Mann, und Sela im Sturm eroberte und dem Ort den Namen Joktheel beilegte, den er bis auf den heutigen Tag führt.

He slew also of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and tooke the citie of Sela by warre, and called the name thereof Ioktheel vnto this day.

8 Damals schickte Amazja Gesandte an den König Joas von Israel, den Sohn des Joahas, des Sohnes Jehus, und ließ ihm sagen: »Komm, wir wollen unsere Kräfte miteinander messen!«

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Iehoash the sonne of Iehoahaz, sonne of Iehu King of Israel, saying, Come, let vs see one another in the face.

9 Da ließ Joas, der König von Israel, dem König Amazja von Juda durch eine Gesandtschaft antworten: »Der Dornstrauch auf dem Libanon sandte (einst) zu der Zeder auf dem Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: ›Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohne zur Frau!‹, aber da liefen die wilden Tiere auf dem Libanon über den Dornstrauch hin und zertraten ihn.

Then Iehoash the King of Israel sent to Amaziah King of Iudah, saying, The thistle that is in Lebanon, sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Giue thy daughter to my sonne to wife: and the wilde beast that was in Lebanon, went and trode downe the thistle.

10 Weil du die Edomiter glücklich besiegt hast, ist dir der Mut gewachsen. Begnüge dich mit dem Ruhme und bleibe zu Hause sitzen: warum willst du das Unglück herausfordern, daß du zu Fall kommst und Juda mit dir?«

Because thou hast smitten Edom, thine heart hath made thee proud: bragge of glory, and tary at home. why doest thou prouoke to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, and Iudah with thee?

11 Da aber Amazja nicht hören wollte, zog Joas, der König von Israel, heran, und beide maßen ihre Kräfte miteinander, er und der König Amazja von Juda, bei Beth-Semes, das zu Juda gehört.

But Amaziah would not heare: therefore Iehoash King of Israel went vp: and he and Amaziah King of Iudah sawe one another in the face at Beth-shemesh which is in Iudah.

12 Da wurden die Judäer von den Israeliten geschlagen, so daß ein jeder in seine Heimat floh.

And Iudah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fledde euery man to their tents.

13 Den Amazja selber aber, den König von Juda, den Sohn des Joas, des Sohnes Ahasjas, nahm Joas, der König von Israel, bei Beth-Semes gefangen und ließ, als er nach Jerusalem gekommen war, ein Stück der Mauer Jerusalems vom Ephraimstor bis zum Ecktor auf einer Strecke von vierhundert Ellen niederreißen.

But Iehoash King of Israel tooke Amaziah King of Iudah, the sonne of Iehoash the sonne of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Ierusalem, and brake downe the wall of Ierusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, foure hundreth cubites.

14 Außerdem nahm er alles Gold und Silber sowie alle Geräte, die sich im Tempel des HERRN und in den Schatzkammern des königlichen Palastes vorfanden, dazu Geiseln, und kehrte dann nach Samaria zurück.

And he tooke all the gold and siluer, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the Kings house, and the children that were in hostage, and returned to Samaria.

15 Die übrige Geschichte des Joas aber, alles, was er unternommen hat, und seine tapferen Taten und wie er mit dem König Amazja von Juda Krieg geführt hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Israel.

Concerning the rest of the acts of Iehoash which he did and his valiant deedes, and how he fought with Amaziah King of Iudah, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

16 Als Joas sich dann zu seinen Vätern gelegt und man ihn in Samaria bei den Königen von Israel begraben hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Jerobeam in der Regierung nach.

And Iehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried at Samaria among the Kings of Israel: and Ieroboam his sonne reigned in his stead.

17 Amazja aber, der Sohn des Joas, der König von Juda, überlebte den König Joas von Israel, den Sohn des Joahas, noch fünfzehn Jahre.

And Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah, liued after the death of Iehoash sonne of Iehoahaz King of Israel fifteene yeere.

18 Die übrige Geschichte Amazjas aber findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Juda. –

Concerning the rest of the actes of Amaziah, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?

19 Als man aber in Jerusalem eine Verschwörung gegen ihn anstiftete, floh er nach Lachis; doch man sandte Leute nach Lachis hinter ihm her, die ihn dort ermordeten.

But they wrought treason against him in Ierusalem, and he fled to Lachish, but they sent after him to Lachish, and slewe him there.

20 Dann lud man ihn auf Rosse, und er wurde in Jerusalem bei seinen Vätern in der Davidstadt begraben.

And they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Ierusalem with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.

21 Hierauf nahm die ganze Bevölkerung von Juda den Asarja, der sechzehn Jahre alt war, und machte ihn zum König als Nachfolger seines Vaters Amazja.

Then all the people of Iudah tooke Azariah which was sixteene yeere olde, and made him King for his father Amaziah.

22 Er befestigte Elath, das er an Juda zurückgebracht hatte, sogleich nachdem der König sich zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte.

He built Elath, and restored it to Iudah, after that the King slept with his fathers.

23 Im fünfzehnten Regierungsjahre des Königs Amazja von Juda, des Sohnes des Joas, wurde Jerobeam, der Sohn des Königs Joas von Israel, König zu Samaria und regierte einundvierzig Jahre.

In the fifteenth yeere of Amaziah the sonne of Ioash King of Iudah, was Ieroboam the sonne of Ioash made King ouer Israel in Samaria, and reigned one and fourtie yeere.

24 Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel; er wich in keinem Stück von den Sünden Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführt hatte.

And he did euill in the sight of the Lord: for he departed not from all the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne.

25 Er stellte die Grenze Israels wieder her von der Gegend um Hamath an bis an den großen Steppensee (das Tote Meer), der Verheißung entsprechend, die der HERR, der Gott Israels, durch seinen Knecht, den Propheten Jona, den Sohn Amittais aus Gath-Hepher, gegeben hatte.

He restored the coast of Israel, from the entring of Hamath, vnto the Sea of the wildernesse, according to the worde of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by his seruant Ionah the sonne of Amittai the Prophet, which was of Gath Hepher.

26 Denn der HERR hatte das gar bittere Elend Israels wahrgenommen und gesehen, daß Unmündige ebenso wie Mündige dahin waren und daß kein Helfer für Israel da war.

For the Lord saw the exceeding bitter affliction of Israel, so that there was none shutte vp, nor any left, neyther yet any that could helpe Israel.

27 Auch hatte der HERR noch nicht die Drohung ausgesprochen, daß er den Namen Israels unter dem Himmel austilgen wolle; darum half er ihnen jetzt durch Jerobeam, den Sohn des Joas.

Yet the Lord had not decreed to put out the name of Israel from vnder the heauen: therefore he preserued them by the hand of Ieroboam the sonne of Ioash.

28 Die übrige Geschichte Jerobeams aber und alles, was er unternommen hat, und seine tapferen Taten, wie er Krieg geführt und wie er Damaskus und Hamath, die zu Juda gehört hatten, für Israel zurückerobert hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Israel. –

Concerning the rest of the actes of Ieroboam, and all that he did, and his valiant deedes, and how he fought, and how he restored Damascus, and Hamath to Iudah in Israel, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

29 Als Jerobeam sich dann zu seinen Vätern, den Königen von Israel, gelegt hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Sacharja in der Regierung nach.

So Ieroboam slept with his fathers, euen with the Kings of Israel, and Zachariah his sonne reigned in his steade.
