2 Korinther 1
1 Ich, Paulus, ein Apostel Christi Jesu durch den Willen Gottes, und der Bruder Timotheus senden der Gemeinde Gottes in Korinth samt allen Heiligen in ganz Achaja unsern Gruß:
Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God--and our brother Timothy: To the Church of God in Corinth, with all God's people throughout Greece.
2 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott unserm Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!
May grace and peace be granted to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Gepriesen sei der Gott und Vater unsers Herrn Jesus Christus, der Vater der Barmherzigkeit und der Gott alles Trostes,
Heartfelt thanks be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ--the Father who is full of compassion and the God who gives all comfort.
4 der uns in aller unserer Trübsal tröstet, damit wir dann (unserseits) alle, die sich in irgendeiner Trübsal befinden, mit dem Trost zu erquicken vermögen, mit dem wir selbst von Gott getröstet werden.
He comforts us in our every affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction by means of the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 Denn wie die Leiden Christi sich überaus reichlich über uns ergießen, so ergießt sich durch Christus auch unser Trost überaus reichlich.
For just as we have more than our share of suffering for the Christ, so also through the Christ we have more than our share of comfort.
6 Werden wir nun (von Trübsal) bedrängt, so dient das zur Tröstung und zum Heil für euch; und empfangen wir Trost (von Gott), so dient das (gleichfalls) euch zum Trost, und dieser erweist sich dann wirksam in standhaftem Ertragen der gleichen Leiden, die auch wir durchzumachen haben;
But if, on the one hand, we are enduring affliction, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if, on the other hand, we are receiving comfort, it is for your comfort which is produced within you through your patient fortitude under the same sufferings as those which we also are enduring.
7 und so steht unsere Hoffnung für euch unerschütterlich fest, weil wir wissen, daß ihr wie an den Leiden, so auch am Troste Anteil habt.
And our hope for you is stedfast; for we know that as you are partners with us in the sufferings, so you are also partners in the comfort.
8 Wir möchten euch nämlich, liebe Brüder, über die Trübsal, die uns in der Provinz Asien betroffen hat, nicht in Unkenntnis lassen, daß nämlich das Leid so übergewaltig, so unerträglich schwer auf uns gelastet hat, daß wir sogar unser Leben verloren gaben;
For as for our troubles which came upon us in the province of Asia, we would have you know, brethren, that we were exceedingly weighed down, and felt overwhelmed, so that we renounced all hope even of life.
9 ja, wir selber hatten es schon für ausgemacht gehalten, daß wir sterben müßten; wir sollten eben lernen, unser Vertrauen nicht auf uns selbst zu setzen, sondern auf den Gott, der die Toten auferweckt.
Nay, we had, as we still have, the sentence of death within our own selves, in order that our confidence may repose, not on ourselves, but on God who raised the dead to life.
10 Er hat uns denn auch aus einer so großen Todesgefahr errettet und wird uns auch fernerhin erretten; auf ihn setzen wir unsere Hoffnung, daß er uns auch in Zukunft erretten wird,
He it is who rescued us from so imminent a death, and will do so again; and we have a firm hope in Him that He will also rescue us in all the future,
11 wenn auch ihr mit eurer Fürbitte hilfreich für uns eintretet, damit aus dem Munde vieler (Anteilnehmenden) der uns zuteil gewordene Gnadenerweis durch viele auch die Dankesweihe im Hinblick auf uns erhalte.
while you on your part lend us your aid in entreaty for us, so that from many lips thanksgivings may rise on our behalf for the boon granted to us at the intercession of many.
12 Denn darin besteht unser Ruhm: in dem Zeugnis unsers Gewissens, daß wir in Sittenreinheit und Lauterkeit Gottes, nicht in fleischlicher Weisheit, sondern in der Gnade Gottes unsern Wandel in der Welt und ganz besonders euch gegenüber geführt haben.
For the reason for our boasting is this--the testimony of our own conscience that it was in holiness and with pure motives before God, and in reliance not on worldly wisdom but on the gracious help of God, that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and above all in our relations with you.
13 Denn wir schreiben euch (in unsern Briefen) nichts anderes, als was ihr da lest und auch (daraus) versteht; ich hoffe aber, daß ihr es bis ans Ende verstehen werdet,
For we are writing to you nothing different from what we have written before, or from what indeed you already recognize as truth and will, I trust, recognize as such to the very end;
14 wie ihr uns ja, wenigstens zum Teil, schon verstanden habt, nämlich, daß wir euer Ruhm sind, ebenso wie ihr es für uns seid am Tage unsers Herrn Jesus.
just as some few of you have recognized us as your reason for boasting, even as you will be ours, on the day of Jesus our Lord.
15 Auf Grund dieser festen Überzeugung nun war ich willens, schon früher zu euch zu kommen, damit ihr eine zweite Freude erhieltet,
It was because I entertained this confidence that I intended to visit you before going elsewhere--so that you might receive a twofold proof of God's favour--
16 und über euer Korinth nach Mazedonien weiterzureisen; alsdann wollte ich von Mazedonien aus nochmals zu euch kommen und mir von euch das Geleit nach Judäa geben lassen.
and to pass by way of Corinth into Macedonia. Then my plan was to return from Macedonia to you, and be helped forward by you to Judaea.
17 Habe ich mich nun etwa, wenn ich diese Absicht hatte, der Leichtfertigkeit schuldig gemacht? Oder sind meine Entschlüsse überhaupt Entschlüsse nach dem Fleisch, damit das »Ja ja« und das »Nein nein« mir (gleichzeitig) zur Verfügung stehe?
Did I display any vacillation or caprice in this? Or the purposes which I form--do I form them on worldly principles, now crying "Yes, yes," and now "No, no"?
18 Aber Gott ist Bürge dafür, daß unser Wort, das an euch ergeht, nicht Ja und Nein (zu gleicher Zeit) ist.
As certainly as God is faithful, our language to you is not now "Yes" and now "No."
19 Denn Gottes Sohn Jesus Christus, der unter euch durch uns gepredigt worden ist, nämlich durch mich und Silvanus und Timotheus, ist auch nicht Ja und Nein (zugleich) gewesen, sondern in ihm ist das »Ja« geschehen;
For Jesus Christ the Son of God--He who was proclaimed among you by us, that is by Silas and Timothy and myself--did not show Himself a waverer between "Yes" and "No." But it was and always is "Yes" with Him.
20 denn für alle Verheißungen Gottes liegt in ihm das »Ja«; daher ist durch ihn auch das »Amen« erfolgt, Gott zur Verherrlichung durch uns.
For all the promises of God, whatever their number, have their confirmation in Him; and for this reason through Him also our "Amen" acknowledges their truth and promotes the glory of God through our faith.
21 Der uns aber samt euch auf Christus fest gründet und uns gesalbt hat, das ist Gott,
But He who is making us as well as you stedfast through union with the Anointed One, and has anointed us, is God,
22 er, der uns auch sein Siegel aufgedrückt und uns den Geist als Unterpfand in unsere Herzen gegeben hat.
and He has also set His seal upon us, and has put His Spirit into our hearts as a pledge and foretaste of future blessing.
23 Meinerseits aber rufe ich Gott zum Zeugen gegen meine Seele an, daß ich (nur) aus Schonung für euch noch nicht wieder nach Korinth gekommen bin.
But as for me, as my soul shall answer for it, I appeal to God as my witness, that it was to spare you pain that I gave up my visit to Corinth.
24 Nicht daß wir als die Herren über euren Glauben zu bestimmen hätten, nein, wir sind Mitarbeiter an eurer Freude; denn im Glauben steht ihr fest.
Not that we want to lord it over you in respect of your faith--we do, however, desire to help your joy--for in the matter of your faith you are standing firm.
