2 Chronik 34

1 Im Alter von acht Jahren wurde Josia König, und einunddreißig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem.

Iosiah was eight yeere olde when hee began to reigne, and he reigned in Ierusalem one and thirtie yeere.

2 Er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel: er wandelte auf den Wegen seines Ahnherrn David, ohne nach rechts oder nach links davon abzuweichen.

And he did vprightly in the sight of ye Lord, and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.

3 Im achten Jahre seiner Regierung, als er noch ein Jüngling war, fing er an, den Gott seines Ahnherrn David zu suchen, und im zwölften Jahr begann er, Juda und Jerusalem von dem Höhendienst und den Standbildern der Aschera und den geschnitzten und gegossenen Bildern zu reinigen.

And in the eight yeere of his reigne (when he was yet a childe) he began to seeke after the God of Dauid his father: and in the twelft yeere he began to purge Iudah, and Ierusalem from the hie places, and the groues, and the carued images, and molten images:

4 Vor seinen Augen riß man die Altäre der Baale nieder, und die Sonnensäulen, die oben auf ihnen standen, ließ er umhauen und die Standbilder der Aschera und die geschnitzten und gegossenen Bilder zertrümmern und zermalmen und den Staub von ihnen auf die Gräber derer streuen, die ihnen geopfert hatten;

And they brake downe in his sight the altars of Baalim, and hee caused to cut downe the images that were on hie vpon them: he brake also the groues, and the carued images, and the molten images, and stampt them to pouder, and strowed it vpon the graues of them that had sacrificed vnto them.

5 die Gebeine der Priester ließ er auf ihren Altären verbrennen und reinigte auf diese Weise Juda und Jerusalem.

Also he burnt the bones of the Priests vpon their altars, and purged Iudah and Ierusalem.

6 Auch in den Städten von Manasse und Ephraim, von Simeon und bis nach Naphthali hin – in den dortigen Trümmerstätten ringsum –

And in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, euen vnto Naphtali, with their maules they brake all round about.

7 riß er die Altäre nieder, zertrümmerte und zermalmte die Standbilder der Aschera und die geschnitzten Bilder und ließ alle Sonnensäulen in allen Gegenden Israels umhauen; dann kehrte er nach Jerusalem zurück.

And when he had destroyed the altars and the groues, and had broken and stamped to pouder the images, and had cut downe all the idoles throughout all the land of Israel, hee returned to Ierusalem.

8 Im achtzehnten Jahre seiner Regierung aber, als er das Land und den Tempel gereinigt hatte, sandte er Saphan, den Sohn Azaljas, und den Stadthauptmann Maaseja und den Kanzler Joah, den Sohn des Joahas, um den Tempel des HERRN, seines Gottes, wieder instandsetzen zu lassen.

Then in the eightenth yere of his reigne, when hee had purged the lande and the Temple, he sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the gouernour of the citie, and Ioah the sonne of Ioahaz the recorder, to repaire the house of the Lord his God.

9 Als diese nun zum Hohenpriester Hilkia kamen, übergaben sie das Geld, das im Hause Gottes eingegangen war und das die Leviten, die Schwellenhüter, von den Stämmen Manasse und Ephraim und von allen übrigen Israeliten sowie von ganz Juda und Benjamin und den Bewohnern Jerusalems eingesammelt hatten, –

And when they came to Hilkiah the hie Priest, they deliuered ye money that was brought into the house of God, which the Leuites that kept the doore, had gathered at the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and of all the residue of Israel, and of all Iudah and Beniamin, and of the inhabitantes of Ierusalem.

10 und zwar händigten sie es den Werkführern ein, die für die Arbeit am Tempel des HERRN bestellt waren; diese übergaben es dann den Arbeitern, die am Tempel des HERRN tätig waren, um den Tempel herzustellen und auszubessern;

And they put it in the hands of them that should doe the worke and had the ouersight in the house of the Lord: and they gaue it to the workemen that wrought in the house of ye Lord, to repaire and amend the house.

11 und zwar übergaben sie es den Zimmerleuten und Bauleuten zum Ankauf von behauenen Steinen und von Hölzern für die Decken und um die Baulichkeiten, welche die Könige von Juda hatten in Verfall geraten lassen, mit neuem Gebälk zu versehen.

Euen to the workemen and to the builders gaue they it, to bye hewed stone and timber for couples and for beames of the houses, which the Kings of Iudah had destroyed.

12 Diese Männer handelten bei ihrer Arbeit auf Treu und Glauben; und über sie waren gesetzt: die Leviten Jahath und Obadja aus den Nachkommen Meraris, und Sacharja und Mesullam aus den Nachkommen der Kahathiten, um die Aufsicht zu führen; und die Leviten, soweit sie sich auf Musikinstrumente verstanden,

And the men did the worke faithfully, and the ouerseers of them were Iahath and Obadiah the Leuites, of the children of Merari, and Zechariah, and Meshullam, of the children of the Kohathites to set it forward: and of the Leuites all that could skill of instruments of musike.

13 waren über die Lastträger gesetzt und führten auch die Aufsicht über alle Arbeiter bei ihren verschiedenen Dienstleistungen; und andere von den Leviten waren auch Schreiber, Amtleute und Torhüter.

And they were ouer the bearers of burdens, and them that set forwarde all the workemen in euery worke: and of the Leuites were scribes, and officers and porters.

14 Als sie nun das Geld, das im Tempel des HERRN eingegangen war, herausnahmen, fand der Priester Hilkia das Buch mit dem von Mose herrührenden Gesetz des HERRN.

And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the Priest found the booke of the Lawe of the Lord giuen by the hand of Moses.

15 Da hob Hilkia an und sagte zum Staatsschreiber Saphan: »Ich habe das Gesetzbuch im Tempel des HERRN gefunden!« Damit übergab Hilkia das Buch dem Saphan.

Therefore Hilkiah answered and sayde to Shaphan the chaceler, I haue found the booke of the Law in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan.

16 Dieser überbrachte dann das Buch dem König und erstattete außerdem dem Könige folgenden Bericht: »Alles, was deinen Knechten aufgetragen war, haben sie ausgerichtet:

And Shaphan caried the booke to the King, and brought the King worde againe, saying, All that is committed to the hand of thy seruants, that do they.

17 sie haben das Geld, das sich im Tempel des HERRN vorfand, ausgeschüttet und haben es den zur Aufsicht Bestellten und den Werkführern eingehändigt.«

For they haue gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and haue deliuered it into the handes of the ouerseers, and to the handes of the workemen.

18 Weiter machte der Staatsschreiber Saphan dem Könige noch die Mitteilung: »Der Priester Hilkia hat mir ein Buch gegeben«; und Saphan las dem Könige daraus vor.

Also Shaphan ye chanceler declared to the King, saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath giuen mee a booke, and Shaphan read it before the King.

19 Als nun der König den Inhalt des Gesetzbuches vernahm, zerriß er seine Kleider

And when the King had heard the wordes of the Lawe, he tare his clothes.

20 und gab sodann dem Hilkia und Ahikam, dem Sohne Saphans, ferner Abdon, dem Sohne Michas, und dem Staatsschreiber Saphan und Asaja, dem Leibdiener des Königs, folgenden Befehl:

And the King commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Abdon the sonne of Micah, and Shaphan the chanceler, and Asaiah the Kings seruant, saying,

21 »Geht hin und befragt den HERRN für mich und für die, welche in Israel und Juda noch übriggeblieben sind, in betreff des Wortlautes des Buches, das man aufgefunden hat; denn groß ist der Grimm des HERRN, der sich über uns ergossen hat, weil unsere Väter die Weisungen des HERRN nicht beachtet haben, um alles zu tun, was in diesem Buche geschrieben steht.«

Goe and enquire of the Lord for me, and for the rest in Israel and Iudah, concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is fallen vpon vs, because our fathers haue not kept the worde of the Lord, to doe after all that is written in this booke.

22 Da begab sich Hilkia mit den Männern, die der König bezeichnet hatte, zu der Prophetin Hulda, der Frau des Kleiderhüters Sallum, des Sohnes Thokhaths, des Sohnes Hasras; die wohnte in Jerusalem im zweiten Bezirk. Als sie sich nun mit ihr gemäß dem ihnen erteilten Auftrage besprachen,

Then Hilkiah and they that the King had appoynted, went to Huldah the Prophetesse ye wife of Shallum, the sonne of Tokhath, the sonne of Hasrah keeper of the wardrobe (and she dwelt in Ierusalem within the colledge) and they communed hereof with her.

23 sagte sie zu ihnen: »So hat der HERR, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: Sagt dem Manne, der euch zu mir gesandt hat:

And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tell yee the man that sent you to me,

24 So hat der HERR gesprochen: ›Wisse wohl: ich will Unglück über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner kommen lassen, nämlich alle die Flüche, die in dem Buche geschrieben stehen, das man dem König von Juda vorgelesen hat.

Thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I will bring euill vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitantes thereof, euen all the curses, that are written in the booke which they haue read before the King of Iudah:

25 Zur Strafe dafür, daß sie mich verlassen und anderen Göttern geopfert haben, um mich mit all den Machwerken ihrer Hände zum Zorn zu reizen, daher hat sich mein Grimm über diesen Ort ergossen und wird nicht wieder erlöschen!‹

Because they haue forsaken me, and burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger mee with al the workes of their hands, therefore shall my wrath fall vpon this place, and shall not be quenched.

26 Zum König von Juda aber, der euch gesandt hat, um den HERRN zu befragen, zu dem sollt ihr sagen: So hat der HERR, der Gott Israels, gesprochen: ›Was die Drohungen anbetrifft, die du vernommen hast:

But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to enquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard, shall come to passe.

27 weil dein Herz weich geworden ist und du dich vor Gott gedemütigt hast, als du seine Drohungen gegen diesen Ort und gegen seine Bewohner vernahmst, und du dich vor mir gedemütigt und deine Kleider zerrissen und vor mir geweint hast, so habe auch ich dir Gehör geschenkt‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.

But because thine heart did melt, and thou didest humble thy selfe before God, when thou heardest his wordes against this place and against the inhabitantes thereof, and humbledst thy selfe before mee and tarest thy clothes, and weptest before mee, I haue also heard it, sayth the Lord.

28 ›Darum wisse wohl: wenn ich dich zu deinen Vätern versammle, sollst du in Frieden in deine Grabstätte eingebracht werden, und deine Augen sollen all das Unglück, das ich über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner bringen werde, nicht zu sehen bekommen!‹« Als sie nun dem Könige Bericht erstattet hatten,

Beholde, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt bee put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euill, which I will bring vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitants of the same. Thus they brought ye King word againe.

29 sandte der König Boten aus und ließ alle Ältesten von Juda und Jerusalem zusammenkommen.

Then the King sent and gathered all the Elders of Iudah and Ierusalem.

30 Hierauf ging der König zum Tempel des HERRN hinauf und mit ihm alle Männer von Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems, auch die Priester und die Leviten, kurz das ganze Volk, klein und groß; und er las ihnen den ganzen Inhalt des Bundesbuches vor, das im Tempel des HERRN gefunden worden war.

And the King went vp into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the Priests and the Leuites, and all the people from the greatest to the smallest, and hee read in their eares all the wordes of the booke of the couenant that was found in the house of the Lord.

31 Hierauf trat der König an seinen Standort und schloß den Bund vor dem HERRN mit der Zusage ab, daß sie dem HERRN nachwandeln und seine Gebote, seine Verordnungen und seine Satzungen mit ganzem Herzen und mit ganzer Seele beobachten wollten, um so nach den Bestimmungen des Bundes zu handeln, die in diesem Buche geschrieben standen.

And the King stood by his pillar, and made a couenant before the Lord, to walke after the Lord, and to keepe his commandements, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soule, and that he would accomplish the wordes of the couenant written in the same booke.

32 Er ließ dann alle, die sich in Jerusalem und Benjamin befanden, dem Bunde beitreten, und die Einwohner von Jerusalem handelten so, wie es dem Bunde mit Gott, dem Gott ihrer Väter, entsprach.

And he caused all that were found in Ierusalem, and Beniamin to stande to it: and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did according to the couenant of God, euen the God of their fathers.

33 So schaffte denn Josia alle Götzengreuel aus sämtlichen Landschaften der Israeliten weg und verpflichtete alle, die sich in Israel befanden, zur Verehrung des HERRN, ihres Gottes. Solange Josia lebte, wichen sie nicht von der Nachfolge des HERRN, des Gottes ihrer Väter, ab.

So Iosiah tooke away al the abominations out of all the countreis that perteined to the children of Israel, and compelled all that were found in Israel, to serue the Lord their God: so all his dayes they turned not backe from the Lord God of their fathers.
