2 Chronik 33

1 Im Alter von zwölf Jahren wurde Manasse König und regierte fünfundfünfzig Jahre in Jerusalem.

Twelve years old, was Manasseh when he began to reign, —and, fifty-five years, reigned he in Jerusalem.

2 Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, im Anschluß an den greuelhaften Götzendienst der (heidnischen) Völker, die der HERR vor den Israeliten vertrieben hatte.

And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, -according to the abominable ways of the nations, whom Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

3 Er baute die Höhenheiligtümer wieder auf, die sein Vater Hiskia zerstört hatte, errichtete den Baalen Altäre, ließ Standbilder der Aschera herstellen, betete das ganze Sternenheer des Himmels an und erwies ihnen Verehrung.

And he again built the high places, which Hezekiah his father had thrown down, —and set up altars to the Baalim, and made Sacred Stems, and bowed in prostration unto all the army of the heavens, and served them;

4 Er erbaute sogar Altäre im Tempel des HERRN, von dem doch der HERR gesagt hatte: »In Jerusalem soll mein Name für alle Zeiten wohnen!«,

and built altars in the house of Yahweh, —as to which Yahweh had said, In Jerusalem, shall be my Name, unto times age-abiding.

5 und zwar erbaute er dem ganzen Sternenheer des Himmels Altäre in den beiden Vorhöfen beim Tempel des HERRN.

Yea he built altars unto all the army of the heavens, —in the two courts of the house of Yahweh.

6 Ja er ließ sogar seine eigenen Söhne im Tale Ben-Hinnom als Brandopfer verbrennen, trieb Zauberei, Wahrsagerei und geheime Künste und bestellte Totenbeschwörer und Zeichendeuter: er tat vieles, was dem HERRN mißfiel und ihn zum Zorn reizen mußte.

And, he, caused his sons to pass through the fire, in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practised hidden arts and used divination, and practised sorcery, and appointed a necromancer, and a wizard, —he exceeded in doing the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger;

7 Das geschnitzte Götzenbild, das er hatte anfertigen lassen, stellte er sogar im Hause Gottes auf, von dem doch Gott zu David und dessen Sohne Salomo gesagt hatte: »In diesem Hause und in Jerusalem, das ich aus allen Stämmen Israels erwählt habe, will ich meinen Namen für ewige Zeiten wohnen lassen;

and he set a resemblance-image which he had made, —in the house of God, as to which God had said unto David, and unto Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my Name, unto times age-abiding.

8 und ich will den Fuß Israels fortan nicht wieder weichen lassen aus dem Lande, das ich ihren Vätern angewiesen habe, wofern sie nur darauf bedacht sind, alles zu tun, was ich ihnen geboten habe, nämlich ganz nach dem Gesetz und den Satzungen und Verordnungen (zu leben), die sie durch Mose erhalten haben.«

So will I not again remove the foot of Israel away from the soil which I appointed for their fathers. Only they must observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law and the statutes and the regulations, by the hand of Moses.

9 Aber Manasse verleitete Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems dazu, es noch ärger zu treiben, als die heidnischen Völker es getan hatten, die der HERR vor den Israeliten vertilgt hatte.

And so Manasseh led astray Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, —to commit wickedness beyond the nations which Yahweh had destroyed from before the sons of Israel.

10 Zwar warnte der HERR den Manasse und sein Volk durch den Mund von Propheten, aber sie achteten nicht darauf.

And Yahweh spake unto Manasseh and unto his people, but they did not give ear.

11 Da ließ der HERR die Heerführer des Königs von Assyrien gegen sie anrücken; die führten Manasse mit Haken gefangen, legten ihm eherne Fesseln an und brachten ihn nach Babylon.

So Yahweh brought in upon them, the captains of the army that belonged to the king of Assyria, and they captured Manasseh with hooks, —and bound him captive with a pair of bronze fetters, and took him away to Babylon.

12 Als er sich nun in Not befand, flehte er zum HERRN, seinem Gott, um Gnade und demütigte sich tief vor dem Gott seiner Väter;

But, in his distress, he appeased the face of Yahweh his God, —and humbled himself greatly, before the God of his fathers;

13 und als er nun zu ihm betete, ließ er sich von ihm erbitten, so daß er sein Flehen erhörte und ihn nach Jerusalem in seine königliche Stellung zurückbrachte. Da erkannte Manasse, daß der HERR (der wahre) Gott ist.

and, when he prayed unto him, then was he entreated of him, and hearkened unto his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem, unto his own kingdom, and so Manasseh came to know, that, Yahweh, is God.

14 Später baute er noch eine äußere Mauer an der Davidsstadt, auf der Westseite nach dem Gihon hin, im (Kidron-) Tal und bis zum Eingang ins Fischtor, so daß er den Ophel umschloß; dabei erhöhte er sie beträchtlich. Auch setzte er Befehlshaber in sämtlichen festen Plätzen Judas ein.

And, after this, he built an outer wall to the city of David on the west of the Gihon in the ravine, even to the entering in through the fish-gate, and went round to Ophel, and carried it up very high, —and put captains of valour in all the fortified cities, throughout Judah.

15 Sodann schaffte er die fremden Götter und das Götzenbild aus dem Tempel des HERRN weg, ebenso alle Altäre, die er auf dem Tempelberge und in Jerusalem errichtet hatte, und ließ sie vor die Stadt hinauswerfen.

And he removed the gods of the foreigner and the image, out of the house of Yahweh, and all the altars that he had built in the mountain of the house of Yahweh, and in Jerusalem, —and he cast them forth outside the city.

16 Dagegen stellte er den Altar des HERRN wieder her und opferte auf ihm Heils- und Dankopfer und machte den Judäern die Verehrung des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, zur Pflicht.

And he built the altar of Yahweh, and sacrificed thereon peace-offerings, and thanksgiving sacrifices, -and gave word to Judah to serve Yahweh, God of Israel.

17 Indessen opferte das Volk noch immer auf den Höhen, allerdings nur dem HERRN, ihrem Gott.

Howbeit, still were, the people, sacrificing in the high places, —only unto Yahweh their God.

18 Die übrige Geschichte Manasses aber und sein Gebet zu seinem Gott sowie die Reden der Seher, die im Namen des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, zu ihm geredet haben, das alles steht bereits in der Geschichte der Könige von Israel geschrieben.

But, the rest of the story of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the story of the seers who spake unto him in the name of Yahweh God of Israel, there they are, in the story of the kings of Israel:

19 Sein Gebet aber und wie er bei Gott Erhörung fand, sowie alle seine Versündigungen und seine Untreue und die Orte, an denen er vor seiner Demütigung Höhenaltäre erbaut und Standbilder der Aschera und geschnitzte Götzenbilder aufgestellt hatte, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet in der Geschichte Hosais. –

both his prayer and how [God] was entreated of him—and all his sin and his treacherous act, and the sites whereon he built high places, and set up the Sacred Stems and the images, before he humbled himself, there they are, written in the story of the seers.

20 Als Manasse sich dann zu seinen Vätern gelegt und man ihn in seinem Hause begraben hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Amon in der Regierung nach.

And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the garden off his own house, —and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

21 Im Alter von zweiundzwanzig Jahren wurde Amon König und zwei Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem.

Twenty-two years old, was Amon when he began to reign, —and, two years, reigned he in Jerusalem.

22 Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, wie sein Vater Manasse getan hatte; und allen Götzenbildern, die sein Vater Manasse hatte anfertigen lassen, brachte Amon eifrig Opfer dar und verehrte sie.

And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, as Manasseh his father had done, —and, unto all the images which Manasseh his father had made, Amon offered sacrifice, and did serve them.

23 Aber er demütigte sich nicht vor dem HERRN, wie sein Vater Manasse sich gedemütigt hatte, sondern er, Amon, lud große Schuld auf sich.

But he did not humble himself before Yahweh as Manasseh his father humbled himself, —for, he, Amon, made guilt abound.

24 Da verschworen sich seine eigenen Diener gegen ihn und ermordeten ihn in seinem Palast.

And his servants conspired against him, and put him to death, in his own house.

25 Die Landbevölkerung aber erschlug alle, die an der Verschwörung gegen den König Amon teilgenommen hatten, und erhob dann seinen Sohn Josia zu seinem Nachfolger auf dem Throne.

But the people of the land smote all the conspirators against King Amon, —and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
