1 Samuel 31
1 Als es aber zwischen den Philistern und Israeliten zur Schlacht kam, wurden die Israeliten von den Philistern in die Flucht geschlagen, und viele Erschlagene lagen auf dem Gebirge Gilboa umher.
And [the] Philistines [were] fighting against Israel and they fled [the] men of Israel from before [the] Philistines and they fell slain on [the] mountain of Gilboa.
2 Die Philister setzten Saul und seinen Söhnen hart zu und erschlugen Sauls Söhne Jonathan, Abinadab und Malchisua.
And they pursued closely [the] Philistines Saul and sons his and they struck down [the] Philistines Jonathan and Abinadab and Malki-Shua [the] sons of Saul.
3 Als dann ein wilder Kampf um Saul her entstand und die Bogenschützen ihn ausfindig gemacht hatten, da ward er von den Bogenschützen in den Unterleib getroffen.
And it was heavy the battle against Saul and they found him the archers men with the bow and he was in severe pain exceedingly from the archers.
4 Da befahl Saul seinem Waffenträger: »Ziehe dein Schwert und durchbohre mich damit, auf daß nicht diese Heiden kommen und ihren Mutwillen an mir auslassen!« Aber sein Waffenträger weigerte sich, weil er sich zu sehr fürchtete. Da nahm Saul das Schwert und stürzte sich hinein.
And he said Saul to [the] bearer of armor his draw out sword your - and pierce through me with it lest they should come the uncircumcised [men] these and they will pierce through me and they will deal wantonly with me and not he was willing [the] bearer of armor his for he was afraid exceedingly and he took Saul the sword and he fell on it.
5 Als nun sein Waffenträger sah, daß Saul tot war, stürzte er sich gleichfalls in sein Schwert und starb neben ihm.
And he saw [the] bearer of armor his that he had died Saul and he fell also he on sword his and he died with him.
6 So fanden Saul, seine drei Söhne und sein Waffenträger an jenem Tage zusammen ihren Tod.
And he died Saul and [the] three sons his and [the] bearer of armor his also all men his on the day that together.
7 Als aber die Israeliten, die in den Städten der Ebene (Jesreel) und in den Städten am Jordan wohnten, sahen, daß die Israeliten geflohen und daß Saul samt seinen Söhnen gefallen war, verließen sie ihre Städte und ergriffen die Flucht; da kamen die Philister und setzten sich darin fest.
And they saw [the] men of Israel who [were] on [the] other side of the valley and who - [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan that they had fled [the] men of Israel and that they had died Saul and sons his and they abandoned the cities and they fled and they came [the] Philistines and they dwelt in them.
8 Als dann am nächsten Tage die Philister kamen, um die Gefallenen auszuplündern, fanden sie die Leichen Sauls und seiner drei Söhne auf dem Gebirge Gilboa liegen.
And it was from [the] next day and they came [the] Philistines to strip the [ones] slain and they found Saul and [the] three sons his fallen on [the] mountain of Gilboa.
9 Da hieben sie ihm den Kopf ab, zogen ihm seine Rüstung aus und sandten (Boten) in allen Teilen des Philisterlandes umher, um die Siegesbotschaft in ihren Götzentempeln und unter dem Volke zu verkünden.
And they cut off head his and they stripped off armor his and they sent in [the] land of [the] Philistines all around to bear [the] news [the] house of idols their and the people.
10 Seine Waffen legten sie im Tempel der Astarte nieder, seine Leiche aber hängten sie an der Mauer von Beth-San auf.
And they put armor his [the] house of Ashtaroth and corpse his they fixed on [the] wall of Beth Shan.
11 Als aber die Einwohner von Jabes in Gilead erfuhren, was die Philister an Saul verübt hatten,
And they heard concerning him [the] inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead [that] which they had done [the] Philistines to Saul.
12 machten sich alle streitbaren Männer auf, marschierten die ganze Nacht hindurch und nahmen den Leichnam Sauls und die Leichen seiner Söhne von der Mauer von Beth-San herab, kehrten mit ihnen nach Jabes zurück und verbrannten sie dort.
And they arose every man of strength and they went all the night and they took [the] corpse of Saul and [the] corpses of sons his from [the] wall of Beth Shan and they went Jabesh towards and they burned them there.
13 Hierauf nahmen sie ihre Gebeine, begruben sie unter der Tamariske in Jabes und hielten sieben Tage lang ein Fasten.
And they took bones their and they buried [them] under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh and they fasted seven days.
