1 Drei Jahre vergingen ruhig, ohne daß Krieg zwischen Syrien und Israel stattfand.
Therfor thre yeeris passiden with out batel bitwixe Sirie and Israel.
2 Im dritten Jahre aber, als Josaphat, der König von Juda, zum König von Israel (auf Besuch) gekommen war,
Forsothe in the thridde yeer Josephat, king of Juda, yede doun to the kyng of Israel.
3 sagte der König von Israel zu seinen Dienern: »Ihr wißt doch wohl, daß Ramoth in Gilead uns gehört? Wir aber sitzen hier müßig, anstatt es dem König von Syrien zu entreißen!«
And the kyng of Israel seide to hise seruauntis, Witen ye not, that Ramoth of Galaad is oure, and we ben necgligent to take it fro the hoond of the kyng of Sirie?
4 Als er hierauf an Josaphat die Frage richtete: »Willst du mit mir gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde ziehen?«, antwortete ihm Josaphat: »Ich will sein wie du: mein Volk wie dein Volk, meine Rosse wie deine Rosse!«
And he seide to Josaphat, Whether thou schalt come with me to fiyte in to Ramoth of Galaad?
5 Als Josaphat dann dem König von Israel riet, zunächst doch den Willen des HERRN zu erforschen,
And Josophat seide to the kyng of Israel, As Y am, so and thou; my puple and thi puple ben oon; and my knyytis and thy knyytis `ben oon. And Josephat seide to the kyng of Israel, Y preie thee, axe thou to dai the word of the Lord.
6 ließ der König von Israel die Propheten zusammenkommen, ungefähr vierhundert Mann, und fragte sie: »Soll ich gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde ziehen, oder soll ich es unterlassen?« Sie antworteten: »Ziehe hin, denn der HERR wird es dem König in die Hand geben.«
Therfor the kyng of Israel gaderide prophetis aboute foure hundrid men, and he seide to hem, Owe Y to go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ethir to reste? Whiche answeriden, Stie thou, and the Lord schal yyue it in the hond of the kyng.
7 Da fragte Josaphat: »Gibt es hier sonst keinen Propheten des HERRN mehr, durch den wir Auskunft erhalten könnten?«
Forsothe Josephat seide, Is not here ony profete of the Lord, that we axe bi hym?
8 Der König von Israel erwiderte dem Josaphat: »Es ist wohl noch einer da, durch den wir den HERRN befragen könnten, aber ich habe nicht gern mit ihm zu tun; denn er weissagt mir niemals Gutes, sondern immer nur Unglück: Micha, der Sohn Jimlas.« Aber Josaphat entgegnete: »Der König wolle nicht so reden!«
And the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, O man, Mychee, sone of Hiemla, is left, bi whom we moun axe the Lord; but Y hate hym, for he prophesieth not good to me, but yuel. To whome Josephat seide, Kyng, spek thou not so.
9 Da rief der König von Israel einen Kammerherrn und befahl ihm, schleunigst Micha, den Sohn Jimlas, zu holen.
Therfor the kyng of Israel clepide summe chaumburleyn, and seide to hym, Haste thou to brynge Mychee, sone of Hiemla.
10 Während nun der König von Israel und der König Josaphat von Juda ein jeder auf seinem Throne in ihren Königsgewändern auf dem Platz am Eingang des Stadttores von Samaria dasaßen und alle Propheten vor ihnen weissagten,
Forsothe the kyng of Israel, and Josephat, kyng of Juda, saten, ech in his trone, clothid with kyngis ournement, in the large hows bisidis the dore of the yate of Samarie; and alle prophetis prophecieden in the siyt of hem.
11 machte sich Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, eiserne Hörner und rief aus: »So spricht der HERR: ›Mit solchen (Hörnern) wirst du die Syrer niederstoßen, bis du sie vernichtet hast!‹«
Also Sedechie, sone of Chanaan, made to hym silf hornes of yrun, and seide, The Lord God seith these thingis, With these thou schalt scatere Sirye, til thou do awei it.
12 Ebenso weissagten auch alle anderen Propheten, indem sie riefen: »Ziehe hin gegen Ramoth in Gilead: du wirst Glück haben! Denn der HERR wird es dem König in die Hand fallen lassen.«
And alle prophetis prophecieden in lijk maner, and seiden, Stye thou in to Ramoth of Galaad, and go thou with prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake thin enemyes in the hond of the kyng.
13 Der Bote aber, der hingegangen war, um Micha zu holen, sagte zu ihm: »Wisse: die (übrigen) Propheten haben dem Könige einstimmig Glück verheißen; schließe dich doch ihrem einmütigen Ausspruch an und prophezeie ebenfalls Glück!«
Sotheli the messanger, that yede to clepe Mychee, spak to hym, and seide, Lo! the wordis of prophetis with o mouth prechen goodis to the kyng; therfor thi word be lijk hem, and speke thou goodis.
14 Micha aber antwortete: »So wahr der HERR lebt: nur was der HERR mir eingeben wird, das werde ich verkünden!«
To whom Mychee seide, The Lord lyueth, for what euer thing the Lord schal seie to me, Y schal speke this.
15 Als er nun zum Könige kam, fragte dieser ihn: »Micha, sollen wir gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde ziehen, oder sollen wir es unterlassen?« Er antwortete ihm: »Ziehe hin, du wirst Glück haben! Denn der HERR wird es dem Könige in die Hand fallen lassen.«
Therfor he cam to the kyng. And the kyng seide to hym, Mychee, owen we go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ether ceesse? To which kyng he answeride, Stie thou, and go in prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake it `in to the hond of the kyng.
16 Da entgegnete ihm der König: »Wie oft soll ich dich noch beschwören, mir nichts zu verkünden als nur die reine Wahrheit im Namen des HERRN?«
Forsothe the kyng seide to hym, Eft and eft Y coniure thee, that thou speke not to me, not but that that is soth in the name of the Lord.
17 Da sagte Micha: »Ich habe ganz Israel zerstreut auf den Bergen gesehen wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; der HERR aber sagte: ›Diese haben keinen Herrscher mehr: ein jeder von ihnen möge in Frieden nach Hause zurückkehren!‹«
And he seide, Y siy al Israel scaterid in the hillis, as scheep not hauynge a scheepherde; and the Lord seide, These han no lord, ech man turne ayen in to his hows in pees.
18 Da sagte der König von Israel zu Josaphat: »Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, daß er mir niemals Glück, sondern immer nur Unheil prophezeit?«
Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josaphat, Whethir Y seide not to thee, that he prophecieth not good to me, but euere yuel?
19 Micha aber fuhr fort: »Darum vernimm das Wort des HERRN! Ich habe den HERRN auf seinem Throne sitzen sehen, während das ganze himmlische Heer zur Rechten und zur Linken neben ihm stand.
Sotheli thilke Mychee addide, and seide, Therefore here thou the word of the Lord; Y siy the Lord sittynge on his trone, and Y siy al the oost of heuene stondynge nyy hym, on the riyt side and on the left side.
20 Und der HERR fragte: ›Wer will Ahab betören, daß er zu Felde ziehe und bei Ramoth in Gilead falle?‹ Da erwiderte der eine dies, der andere das,
And the Lord seide, Who schal disseyue Achab, kyng of Israel, that he stye, and falle in Ramoth of Galaad? And oon seide siche wordis, and another in anothir maner.
21 bis endlich der Geist vortrat und sich vor den HERRN stellte und sagte: ›Ich will ihn betören.‹ Der HERR fragte ihn: ›Auf welche Weise?‹
Sotheli a spirit yede out, and stood bifor the Lord, and seide, Y schal disseyue hym. To whom the Lord spak, In what thing?
22 Da antwortete er: ›Ich will hingehen und zum Lügengeist im Munde aller seiner Propheten werden.‹ Da sagte der HERR: ›Du sollst ihn betören, und es wird dir auch gelingen: gehe hin und mache es so.‹
And he seide, Y schal go out, and Y schal be a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle hise prophetis. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt disseyue, and schalt haue the maystry; go thou out, and do so.
23 Nun denn, siehe, der HERR hat allen diesen deinen Propheten einen Lügengeist in den Mund gelegt; denn der HERR hat Unglück für dich beschlossen.«
Now therfor, lo! the Lord yaf a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle prophetis that ben here; and the Lord spak yuel ayens thee.
24 Da trat Zedekia, der Sohn Kenaanas, auf Micha zu und gab ihm einen Backenstreich mit den Worten: »Wie? Ist etwa der Geist des HERRN von mir gewichen, um mit dir zu reden?«
Forsothe Sedechie, sone of Canaan, neiyede, and smoot Mychee on the cheke, and seide, Whether the Spirit of the Lord forsook me, and spak to thee?
25 Micha entgegnete: »Du wirst es an jenem Tage erfahren, an dem du dich aus einem Gemach in das andere begeben wirst, um dich zu verstecken.«
And Mychee seide, Thou schalt se in that dai, whanne thou schalt go in to closet with ynne closet, that thou be hid.
26 Hierauf befahl der König von Israel (dem Kammerherrn): »Nimm Micha fest und führe ihn zu dem Stadthauptmann Amon und zu dem königlichen Prinzen Joas zurück
And the kyng of Israel seide, Take ye Mychee, and dwelle he at Amon, prince of the citee, and at Joas, the sone of Amalech;
27 und melde dort: ›So hat der König befohlen: Setzt diesen Menschen ins Gefängnis und erhaltet ihn notdürftig mit Brot und Wasser am Leben, bis ich wohlbehalten heimkehre!‹«
and seie ye to hem, The kyng seith these thingis, Sende ye this man in to prisoun, and susteyne ye hym with breed of tribulacioun, and with watir of angwisch, til Y turne ayen in pees.
28 Micha antwortete: »Wenn du wirklich wohlbehalten heimkehrst, dann hat der HERR nicht in mir geredet.« Er fügte dann noch hinzu: »Hört dies, ihr Völker alle!«
And Mychee seide, If thou schalt turne ayen in pees, the Lord spak not in me. And he seide, Here ye, alle puplis.
29 Als hierauf der König von Israel und der König Josaphat von Juda gegen Ramoth in Gilead zu Felde gezogen waren,
Therfor the kyng of Israel stiede, and Josaphat, kyng of Juda, in to Ramoth of Galaad.
30 sagte der König von Israel zu Josaphat: »Ich will mich verkleiden und so in die Schlacht gehen; du aber magst deine gewöhnliche Kleidung anbehalten.« So nahm denn der König von Israel verkleidet an der Schlacht teil.
Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, Take thou armeris, and entre thou in to batel, and be thou clothid in thi clothis, that is, noble signes of the kyng. Certis the kyng of Israel chaungide hise clothing, and entride in to batel.
31 Der König von Syrien hatte aber den zweiunddreißig Befehlshabern seiner Kriegswagen den bestimmten Befehl erteilt: »Ihr sollt niemand angreifen, er sei gering oder vornehm, sondern nur den König von Israel!«
Sotheli the kyng of Sirie hadde comaundid to two and thritti princes of charis, and seide, Ye schulen not fiyte ayens ony man lesse, ethir more, no but ayens the kyng of Israel oonli.
32 Als nun die Befehlshaber der Kriegswagen Josaphat zu Gesicht bekamen, dachten sie, daß es gewiß der König von Israel sei, und wandten sich gegen ihn, um ihn anzugreifen. Da erhob Josaphat ein Geschrei;
Therfor whanne the princes of charis hadden seyn Josephat, thei suposiden that he was king of Israel, and bi feersnesse maad thei fouyten ayens hym.
33 und sobald die Befehlshaber der Wagen erkannt hatten, daß er nicht der König von Israel sei, wandten sie sich von ihm ab.
And Josephat criede; and the princis of charis vndurstoden, that it was not the king of Israel, and thei ceessiden fro hym.
34 Ein Mann aber spannte seinen Bogen aufs Geratewohl und traf den König von Israel zwischen dem Ringelgurt und dem Panzer. Da befahl er seinem Wagenlenker: »Wende um und bringe mich vom Schlachtfeld weg, denn ich bin verwundet!«
Sotheli sum man bente a bowe, and dresside an arowe in to vncerteyn, and bi hap he smoot the kyng of Israel bitwixe the lunge and the stomak. And the kyng seide to his charietere, Turne thin hond, and cast me out of the oost, for Y am woundid greuousli.
35 Da aber der Kampf an jenem Tage immer heftiger wurde, blieb der König dann doch den Syrern gegenüber aufrecht im Wagen stehen, bis er am Abend starb; das Blut war aus der Schußwunde ins Innere des Wagens geflossen.
Therfor batel was ioyned in that dai, and the kyng of Israel stood in his chare ayens men of Sirie, and he was deed at euentid. Forsothe the blood of the wounde fletide doun in to the bothome of the chare.
36 Da erscholl gegen Sonnenuntergang der laute Ruf durch das Lager: »Jeder (kehre heim) in seine Stadt und jeder in sein Land! Denn der König ist tot!«
And a criere sownede in al the oost, before that the sunne yede doun, and seide, Ech man turne ayen in to his citee, and in to his lond.
37 Als man dann nach Samaria gekommen war, begruben sie den König in Samaria;
Forsothe the kyng was deed, and was borun in to Samarie; and thei birieden the kyng of Samarie.
38 und als man den Wagen am Teich von Samaria abspülte, leckten die Hunde sein Blut [und die Dirnen wuschen sich damit], wie der HERR es zuvor angekündigt hatte.
And thei waischiden his chare in the cisterne of Samarie, and doggis lickiden his blood, and thei wayschiden the reynes, bi the word of the Lord whiche he hadde spoke.
39 Die übrige Geschichte Ahabs aber sowie alle seine Taten und das Elfenbeinhaus, das er gebaut, und sämtliche Städte, die er befestigt hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Israel. –
Sotheli the residue of wordis of Achab, and alle thingis whiche he dide, and the hows of yuer which he bildide, and of alle citees whiche he bildide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel?
40 Als Ahab sich aber zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Ahasja in der Regierung nach.
Therfor Achab slepte with hise fadris, and Ocozie, his sone, regnede for hym.
41 Josaphat, der Sohn Asas, wurde König über Juda im vierten Jahre der Regierung des Königs Ahab von Israel.
Forsothe Josephat, sone of Asa, bigan to regne on Juda in the fourthe yeer of Achab, kyng of Israel.
42 Fünfunddreißig Jahre war Josaphat beim Regierungsantritt alt, und fünfundzwanzig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Asuba und war eine Tochter Silhis.
Josephat was of fyue and thretti yeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnede fyue and twenti yeer in Jerusalem; the name of his modir was Azuba, douyter of Salai.
43 Er wandelte ganz auf dem Wege seines Vaters Asa, ohne davon abzuweichen, so daß er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel. Nur der Höhendienst wurde nicht beseitigt: das Volk brachte immer noch Schlacht- und Rauchopfer auf den Höhen dar.
And he yede in al the weye of Asa, his fadir, and bowide not fro it; and he dide that, that was riytful in the siyt of the Lord. Netheles he dide not awey hiy thingis, for yit the puple made sacrifice, and brente encense in hiy places.
44 Mit dem König von Israel aber lebte Josaphat in Frieden.
And Josephat hadde pees with the king of Israel.
45 Die übrige Geschichte Josaphats aber und seine tapferen Taten, die er ausgeführt, und wie er Krieg geführt hat, das findet sich bekanntlich bereits aufgezeichnet im Buche der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Juda.

46 Auch den Rest der Heiligtumsbuhler, der unter der Regierung seines Vaters Asa noch übriggeblieben war, schaffte er aus dem Lande weg.

47 In Edom gab es damals keinen König; als König galt der (judäische) Statthalter.
Nethir a kyng was ordeyned thanne in Edom.
48 Josaphat hatte Tharsisschiffe bauen lassen, die nach Ophir fahren und Gold holen sollten; aber man fuhr nicht dahin, weil die Schiffe bei Ezjon-Geber scheiterten.
Forsothe king Josephat made schippis in the see, that schulden seile in to Ophir for gold, and tho myyten not go, for thei weren brokun in Asiongaber.
49 Damals machte Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, dem Josaphat den Vorschlag: »Laß meine Leute die Fahrt zur See mit den deinigen mitmachen!«, aber Josaphat ging nicht darauf ein.
Thanne Ocozie, sone of Achab, seide to Josephat, My seruauntis go with thine in schippis.
50 Als Josaphat sich dann zu seinen Vätern gelegt und man ihn bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt seines Ahnherrn David begraben hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Joram in der Regierung nach.
And Josephat nolde. And Josephat slepte with hise fadris, and was biried with hem in the citee of Dauid, his fadir; and Joram, his sone, regnede for hym.
51 Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, wurde König über Israel zu Samaria im siebzehnten Jahre der Regierung des Königs Josaphat von Juda und regierte zwei Jahre über Israel.
Forsothe Ocozie, sone of Achab, bigan to regne on Israel, in Samarie, in the seuenetenthe yeer of Josephat, kyng of Juda; and Ocozie regnede on Israel twei yeer.
52 Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel, und wandelte auf dem Wege seines Vaters und seiner Mutter und auf dem Wege Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführt hatte.
And he dide yuel in the siyt of the Lord, and yede in the wey of his fadir, and of his modir, and in the weie of Jeroboam, sone of Nabath, that made Israel to do synne.
53 Er diente dem Baal und betete ihn an und erzürnte dadurch den HERRN, den Gott Israels, ganz wie sein Vater getan hatte.
And he seruyde Baal, and worschipide hym, and wraththide the Lord God of Israel, bi alle thingis whiche his fadir hadde do.
