Job 36
1 Elihu redet weiter und sprach:
Then continued Elihu, and said,
2 Harre mir noch ein wenig, ich will dir's zeigen; denn ich habe noch von Gottes wegen etwas zu sagen.
Wait for me a little, and I will instruct thee; for [I have] still some words on God's behalf.
3 Ich will mein Wissen weither holen und beweisen, daß mein Schöpfer recht habe.
I will lift up my knowledge for him who is afar, and for my Maker will I obtain righteousness.
4 Meine Reden sollen ohne Zweifel nicht falsch sein; mein Verstand soll ohne Tadel vor dir sein.
For truly no falsehood is [in] my words: one that is upright in [his] opinions [dealeth now] with thee.
5 Siehe, Gott ist mächtig, und verachtet doch niemand; er ist mächtig von Kraft des Herzens.
Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength of intellect.
6 Den Gottlosen erhält er nicht, sondern hilft dem Elenden zum Recht.
He permitteth not the wicked to live; but he procureth justice for the afflicted.
7 Er wendet seine Augen nicht von dem Gerechten; sondern mit Königen auf dem Thron läßt er sie sitzen immerdar, daß sie hoch bleiben.
He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous; but [he placeth them] with kings on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
8 Und wenn sie gefangen blieben in Stöcken und elend gebunden mit Stricken,
And if they be bound in fetters, and if they be entangled in the cords of affliction:
9 so verkündigt er ihnen, was sie getan haben, und ihre Untugenden, daß sie sich überhoben,
Then doth he tell them of their work, and of their transgressions, when they had become strong.
10 und öffnet ihnen das Ohr zur Zucht und sagt ihnen, daß sie sich von dem Unrechten bekehren sollen.
And he openeth thus their ear to correction, and saith that they should return from wrong-doing.
11 Gehorchen sie und dienen ihm, so werden sie bei guten Tagen alt werden und mit Lust leben.
If they hearken and serve [him], they will spend their days in happiness, and their years in pleasures.
12 Gehorchen sie nicht, so werden sie ins Schwert fallen und vergehen in Unverstand.
But if they hearken not, they will pass away through the sword, and they will perish in want of knowledge.
13 Die Heuchler werden voll Zorns; sie schreien nicht, wenn er sie gebunden hat.
But the hypocrites in heart persevere in wrath; they will not offer entreaty when he bindeth them:
14 So wird ihre Seele in der Jugend sterben und ihr Leben unter den Hurern.
Their soul will die in youth, and their life, among the incestuous.
15 Aber den Elenden wird er in seinem Elend erretten und dem Armen das Ohr öffnen in der Trübsal.
He delivereth the afflicted through his affliction, and openeth through oppression his ear.
16 Und auch dich lockt er aus dem Rachen der Angst in weiten Raum, da keine Bedrängnis mehr ist; und an deinem Tische, voll des Guten, wirst du Ruhe haben.
And also thee hath he incited away from the jaws of distress into a wide space, on the site of which there is no straitness; and what is set on thy table is full of fatness.
17 Du aber machst die Sache der Gottlosen gut, daß ihre Sache und ihr Recht erhalten wird.
But if thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: [divine] judgment and decree will support each other.
18 Siehe zu, daß nicht vielleicht Zorn dich verlocke zum Hohn, oder die Größe des Lösegelds dich verleite.
For there would be fury, If aught were to incite thee to utter an abundance [of rebellious words]; and the greatness of the infliction must not mislead thee.
19 Meinst du, daß er deine Gewalt achte oder Gold oder irgend eine Stärke oder Vermögen?
Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold ore, nor all the highest forces of strength.
20 Du darfst der Nacht nicht begehren, welche Völker wegnimmt von ihrer Stätte.
Desire then not eagerly the night, when nations pass away in their place.
21 Hüte dich und kehre dich nicht zum Unrecht, wie du denn vor Elend angefangen hast.
Take heed, turn not thyself to wrong-doing, so that thou wouldst choose this because of [thy] affliction.
22 Siehe Gott ist zu hoch in seiner Kraft; wo ist ein Lehrer, wie er ist?
Behold, God is exalted by his power: who is an instructer like him?
23 Wer will ihm weisen seinen Weg, und wer will zu ihm sagen: “Du tust Unrecht?”
Who hath given him a charge concerning his way? or who hath ever said, Thou hast acted unjustly?
24 Gedenke daß du sein Werk erhebest, davon die Leute singen.
Reflect, that thou shouldst magnify his work, which [other] men have beheld.
25 Denn alle Menschen sehen es; die Leute schauen's von ferne.
All men have looked at it [with astonishment]; the mortal gazeth at it from afar.
26 Siehe Gott ist groß und unbekannt; seiner Jahre Zahl kann niemand erforschen.
Behold, God is great, and we comprehend him not, the number of his years can truly not be searched out.
27 Er macht das Wasser zu kleinen Tropfen und treibt seine Wolken zusammen zum Regen,
For he taketh away drops of water, which are purified into rain in his mist:
28 daß die Wolken fließen und triefen sehr auf die Menschen.
These drop down out of the skies; they distil upon the multitude of men.
29 Wenn er sich vornimmt die Wolken auszubreiten wie sein hoch Gezelt,
But [what man] can understand the outspreadings of the clouds? the tumult of his tabernacle?
30 siehe, so breitet er aus sein Licht über dieselben und bedeckt alle Enden des Meeres.
Behold, he spreadeth out over it his light, and covereth up the roots of the sea.
31 Denn damit schreckt er die Leute und gibt doch Speise die Fülle.
For by means of them he judgeth nations, he giveth food in superfluity.
32 Er deckt den Blitz wie mit Händen und heißt ihn doch wieder kommen.
[His] hands he covereth with light; and he commandeth it to strike the one who striveth against him.
33 Davon zeugt sein Geselle, des Donners Zorn in den Wolken.
The noise of his storm telleth of it, yea, the cattle also, of the rising tempest.
