Psalm 78
1 Eine Unterweisung Assaphs. Höre, mein Volk, mein Gesetz; neiget eure Ohren zu der Rede meines Mundes!
Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 Ich will meinen Mund auftun zu Sprüchen und alte Geschichte aussprechen,
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 die wir gehöret haben und wissen und unsere Väter uns erzählet haben,
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 daß wir's nicht verhalten sollen ihren Kindern, die hernach kommen, und verkündigen den Ruhm des HERRN und seine Macht und Wunder, die er getan hat.
We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he has done.
5 Er richtete ein Zeugnis auf in Jakob und gab ein Gesetz in Israel, das er unsern Vätern gebot, zu lehren ihre Kinder,
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6 auf daß die Nachkommen lerneten und die Kinder, die noch sollten geboren werden, wenn sie aufkämen, daß sie es auch ihren Kindern verkündigten,
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7 daß sie setzten auf Gott ihre Hoffnung und nicht vergäßen der Taten Gottes und seine Gebote hielten,
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8 und nicht würden wie ihre Väter, eine abtrünnige und ungehorsame Art, welchen ihr Herz nicht fest war, und ihr Geist nicht treulich hielt an Gott;
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
9 wie die Kinder Ephraim, so geharnischt den Bogen führeten, abfielen zur Zeit des Streits.
The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10 Sie hielten den Bund Gottes nicht und wollten nicht in seinem Gesetz wandeln,
They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11 und vergaßen seiner Taten und seiner Wunder, die er ihnen erzeiget hatte.
And forgotten about his works, and his wonders that he had showed them.
12 Vor ihren Vätern tat er Wunder in Ägyptenland, im Felde Zoan.
Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13 Er zerteilete das Meer und ließ sie durchhin gehen; und stellete das Wasser wie eine Mauer.
He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14 Er leitete sie des Tages mit einer Wolke und des Nachts mit einem hellen Feuer.
In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15 Er riß die Felsen in der Wüste und tränkete sie mit Wasser die Fülle;
He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16 und ließ Bäche aus dem Felsen fließen, daß sie hinabflossen wie Wasserströme.
He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17 Noch sündigten sie weiter wider ihn und erzürneten den höchsten in der Wüste;
And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18 und versuchten Gott in ihrem Herzen, daß sie Speise forderten für ihre Seelen;
And they tempted God in their heart by asking food for their lust.
19 und redeten wider Gott und sprachen: Ja, Gott sollte wohl können einen Tisch bereiten in der Wüste!
Yea, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20 Siehe, er hat wohl den Felsen geschlagen, daß Wasser flossen und Bäche sich ergossen; aber wie kann er Brot geben und seinem Volk Fleisch verschaffen?
Behold, he stroke the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21 Da nun das der HERR hörete, entbrannte er, und Feuer ging an in Jakob und Zorn kam über Israel,
Therefore the LORD heard this, and was angry: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22 daß sie nicht glaubeten an Gott und hoffeten nicht auf seine Hilfe.
Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23 Und er gebot den Wolken droben und tat auf die Türen des Himmels;
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24 und ließ das Man auf sie regnen, zu essen, und gab ihnen Himmelbrot.
And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25 Sie aßen Engelbrot; er sandte ihnen Speise die Fülle.
Man did eat angels' food: he sent them food to the full.
26 Er ließ weben den Ostwind unter dem Himmel und erregte durch seine Stärke den Südwind.
He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 Und ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub und Vögel wie Sand am Meer;
He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like the sand of the sea:
28 und ließ sie fallen unter ihr Lager allenthalben, da sie wohneten.
And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 Da aßen sie und wurden allzu satt; er ließ sie ihre Lust büßen.
So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 Da sie nun ihre Lust gebüßet hatten und sie noch davon aßen,
They were not cut off from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths,
31 da kam der Zorn Gottes über sie und erwürgete die Vornehmsten unter ihnen und schlug danieder die Besten in Israel.
The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and stroke down the chosen men of Israel.
32 Aber über das alles sündigten sie noch mehr und glaubten nicht an seine Wunder.
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Darum ließ er sie dahinsterben, daß sie nichts erlangeten, und mußten ihr Leben lang geplaget sein.
Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34 Wenn er sie erwürgete, suchten sie ihn und kehreten sich frühe zu Gott
When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 und gedachten, daß Gott ihr Hort ist und Gott der Höchste ihr Erlöser ist,
And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 und heuchelten ihm mit ihrem Munde und logen ihm mit ihrer Zunge.
Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 Aber ihr Herz war nicht fest an ihm und hielten nicht treulich an seinem Bunde.
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
38 Er aber war barmherzig und vergab die Missetat und vertilgte sie nicht; und wendete oft seinen Zorn ab und ließ nicht seinen ganzen Zorn gehen.
But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 Denn er gedachte, daß sie Fleisch sind, ein Wind, der dahinfähret und nicht wiederkommt.
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passes away, and comes not again.
40 Sie erzürneten ihn gar oft in der Wüste und entrüsteten ihn in der Einöde.
How often did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41 Sie versuchten Gott immer wieder und meisterten den Heiligen in Israel.
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 Sie dachten nicht an seine Hand des Tages, da er sie erlösete von den Feinden,
They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43 wie er denn seine Zeichen in Ägypten getan hatte und seine Wunder im Lande Zoan,
How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
44 da er ihr Wasser in Blut wandelte, daß sie ihre Bäche nicht trinken konnten;
And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45 da er Ungeziefer unter sie schickte, die sie fraßen, und Kröten, die sie verderbeten,
He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46 und gab ihr Gewächs den Raupen und ihre Saat den Heuschrecken;
He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labour unto the locust.
47 da er ihre Weinstöcke mit Hagel schlug und ihre Maulbeerbäume mit Schloßen;
He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48 da er ihr Vieh schlug mit Hagel und ihre Herden mit Strahlen;
He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49 da er böse Engel unter sie sandte in seinem grimmigen Zorn und ließ sie toben und wüten und Leid tun;
He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
50 da er seinen Zorn ließ fortgehen und ihre Seelen vor dem Tode nicht verschonete und ließ ihr Vieh an der Pestilenz sterben;
He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
51 da er alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten schlug, die ersten Erben in den Hütten Hams.
And stroke all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52 Und ließ sein Volk ausziehen wie Schafe und führete sie wie eine Herde in der Wüste.
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 Und er leitete sie sicher, daß sie sich nicht fürchteten; aber ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer.
And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 Und brachte sie in seine heilige Grenze, zu diesem Berge, den seine Rechte erworben hat.
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
55 Und vor ihnen her die Völker und ließ ihnen das Erbe austeilen und ließ in jener Hütten die Stämme Israels wohnen.
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56 Aber sie versuchten und erzürneten Gott, den Höchsten, und hielten seine Zeugnisse nicht;
Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57 und fielen zurück und verachteten alles, wie ihre Väter, und hielten nicht, gleichwie ein loser Bogen;
But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58 und erzürneten ihn mit ihren Höhen und reizeten ihn mit ihren Götzen.
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
59 Und da das Gott hörete, entbrannte er und verwarf Israel sehr,
When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60 daß er Seine Wohnung zu Silo ließ fahren, die Hütte, da er unter Menschen wohnete;
So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61 und gab ihre Macht ins Gefängnis und ihre HERRLIchkeit in die Hand des Feindes;
And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 und übergab sein Volk ins Schwert und entbrannte über sein Erbe.
He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was angry with his inheritance.
63 Ihre junge Mannschaft fraß das Feuer, und ihre Jungfrauen mußten ungefreiet bleiben.
The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64 Ihre Priester fielen durchs Schwert, und waren keine Witwen, die da weinen sollten.
Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65 Und der HERR erwachte wie ein Schlafender, wie ein Starker jauchzet, der vom Wein kommt,
Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine.
66 und schlug seine Feinde von hinten und hängete ihnen eine ewige Schande an.
And he stroke his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67 Und verwarf die Hütte Josephs und erwählte nicht den Stamm Ephraim,
Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 sondern erwählete den Stamm Juda, den Berg Zion, welchen er liebte.
But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69 Und bauete sein Heiligtum hoch, wie ein Land, das ewiglich fest stehen soll.
And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he has established for ever.
70 Und erwählete seinen Knecht David und nahm ihn von den Schafställen;
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71 von den säugenden Schafen holte er ihn, daß er sein Volk Jakob weiden sollte und sein Erbe Israel.
From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72 Und er weidete sie auch mit aller Treue und regierte sie mit allem Fleiß.
So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
