Psalm 16
1 Ein gülden Kleinod Davids. Bewahre mich, Gott; denn ich traue auf dich.
A psalm (miktam) of David. Take care of me, Lord, for I come to you for protection.
2 Ich habe gesagt zu dem HERRN: Du bist ja der HERR, ich muß um deinetwillen leiden.
I tell the Lord, “Apart from you Lord, I don't have anything that's good.”
3 Für die Heiligen, so auf Erden sind, und für die HERRLIchen; an denen habe ich all mein Gefallen.
As for the holy people in the land, they are the ones who are truly great. I appreciate them.
4 Aber jene, die einem andern nacheilen, werden groß Herzeleid haben. Ich will ihres Trankopfers mit dem Blut nicht opfern, noch ihren Namen in meinem Munde führen.
Those who run after other gods will face a lot of trouble. I will not participate in their offerings of blood, I will not even speak the names of their gods.
5 Der HERR aber ist mein Gut und mein Teil; du erhältst mein Erbteil.
Lord, you alone are all I have; you give me what I need; you safeguard my future.
6 Das Los ist mir gefallen aufs Liebliche; mir ist ein schön Erbteil worden.
The land divisions have worked out in my favor—my property is wonderful!
7 Ich lobe den HERRN, der mir geraten hat; auch züchtigen mich meine Nieren des Nachts.
I will bless the Lord who gives me good advice; even at night my conscience tells me what is right.
8 Ich habe den HERRN allezeit vor Augen; denn er ist mir zur Rechten, darum werde ich wohl bleiben.
I have always kept the Lord in front of me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
9 Darum freuet sich mein Herz, und meine Ehre ist fröhlich, auch mein Fleisch wird sicher liegen.
That's why I'm so happy! That's why I am full of joy! That's why my body lives in hope!
10 Denn du wirst meine Seele nicht in der Hölle lassen und nicht zugeben, daß dein Heiliger verwese. (Sheol h7585)
For you will not abandon me in the grave, nor will you allow your Holy One to experience decay. (Sheol h7585)
11 Du tust mir kund den Weg zum Leben; vor dir ist Freude die Fülle und lieblich Wesen zu deiner Rechten ewiglich.
You have shown me the path of life, filling me with joy with your presence and the delight of living with you forever.
